Was on forum a couple of years ago for Viking Ocean cruise which ended up cancelled due to COVID. Back again now but as our first Viking Cruise have chosen the Expedition Cruise on Great Lakes Sept 2024. Can someone please advise/direct where discussion for Expedition cruises takes place ?

It isn’t so far away and so much can happen between now and then - a vaccine perhaps 🙂
We have booked a half World from Dover to Sydney on Coral Princess in 2022
This one has me very tempted - just have to talk to DH about it. Have till the end of the month for an offer Viking still have running 🤔
Have been to USA several times but never this area so seemed a great way to see Memphis and New Orleans- 1

Just curious flashman69; did you end up booking this River Cruise? We are very tempted 🤔
Yes we did. Seems a long way off now of course but only $1000 and our September 2021 cruise is looking less likely each month 😰

Just wondering why our trip on Sept 6 (Venus), 2021 Viking Homelands isnt displayed? Is that why the "scattered" comment?

The next thing we will hear about the status of her build is that she has been handed over to Viking. Viking does not tend to give out much information about each build -- keel laying, floating out, anything ceremonial. If things are running late, we are more apt to hear reports that cruises are being cancelled than an announcement from Viking that the handover hasbeen delayed.
If you follow Cruisemapper, you will know that she has been handed over when the Flag State has been added to the stats and it says Norway.
Useful site. I do wonder why my cruise on Sept 6 , 2021 is one of only 3 with no "prices from" listed ?

In the US, the penalty phase kicks in at 120 days prior to the start of the trip. Before that point, you get $100pp as a voucher and the balance in cash. After that point, you get whatever amount Viking would have kept a voucher (instead of losing it completely) and the balance in cash.
As I read the one offered here can cancel up to 24 hrs before and get a voucher for full value to use within next 24 months. Very similar to what Qantas have been offering lately. Nothing is perfect but as said for $1000 happy to book very early and roll the dice -
Also should add at present that VIking currently have a “ risk free guarantee” for bookings made before end of month

Yes appreciate it is a new ship and bigger than most VIking but judging by Cruise ships they follow a similar floor plan but was really looking for more general tips eg make sure on top 2 decks, if sailing south be on port/bank side etc:) . Never done a river cruise
Need to book by end of week to get “ deal” but it’s not a super deal really

Its $500 each deposit which we could lose if something significant happens and on a $20k cruise and probably $35k holiday in general will wear that. Have 30k tied up in an African holiday from March 2020 which we may never see, 10k in flights been waiting 5 months for Qantas to refund etc. These are uncertain times for international travel but prepared to risk $1k on 2023.
We paid $1000 each deposit for our Viking Homelands Cruise in Sept 2021 back well in 2019 - who would have thought that may still be in jeopardy in 12 months? Qantas wont be flying international until at least July 2021 - yes there are other airlines but there is a reason Qantas are doing that

VIking are advertising for these new cruises starting in 2023. Long way out of course and it’s a new “ship” and maybe bigger than usual but as a complete newbie to river cruising was wondering if any general comments about best cabins to choose on these VIking ships. I ask now as have a good discount if book by end of month at present

Yes received similar email regarding a Sept 2021 Vikings Homeland Cruise. I would suggest if COVID 19 still an issue then the world as we know it has ended but still good for the company to offer even this far out. Am sure it is a standard email for all bookings

Very useful info. Will save as doing Cruise in 2021

Is there a thread specific to cabin reviews?

Thanks Peregrina

Ok thanks. What exactly is the attraction of a GTY then ? The chance to get a better class of room than you pay for? Apologies for my ignorance 🙃. So much to learn

Ended up booking a PV1 #6006 so horizon will be a bit further away:) Made sure it had a sliding door but suspect there aren’t too many “bad” rooms on these liners. Now the wait......

Looks like a good upgrade for club balcony passengers - new dedicated restaurant and tea and coffee making facilities ? Didnt think latter were going into all rooms ?

The message I get varies from time to time but basically the same result " error downloading"
Tweeted Cunard and got following response - maybe more people need to notify them :)
Good Morning,
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We are not aware of any issues with this at present. This may be due to your connection strength or the device you are using to download this.

Have subscribed to this magazine for over a month and while thumbnails for all the issues appear on iPad they never actually download and keep getting error message " please try again later " . Anybody here successfully reading these on an iPad ?
