I like Robert's since they are a local Hawaiian company, been in business since 1941 and have a local presence on every Hawaiian island.

I like doing business with people in the same time zone as I am in. I don't use Airbnb or Vrbo, I use local realtors and I engage local tour operators directly.

My favorite thing to do in Hilo is visit the Kuhio Grille, Home of the 1 Pound Lau Lau.

There is so much to see and do at Volcanoes National Park and along Chain of Craters Road that you could easily spend a full day there. and still not see everything of interest. If I was driving by Punalu'u beach, I'd certainly stop to take a look, but I doubt that I'd take time away from exploring the other sites to drive there. But if seeing a black sand beach and possibly some turtles appeals to you, it's certainly possible to see all three sites in one day. Just keep Punalu'u as your last place to visit, as it won't matter if you drive back to Hilo in the dark.

I envy your two days. We'll be in Hilo in October, but only for the morning. I guess they want to save on fuel by cruising back to Vancouver at a slightly slower speed.

Thanks for your response Fouremeco.  I don’t drive so I booked an excursion through Viator https://www.viator.com/tours/Big-Island-of-Hawaii/Hilo-Shore-Excursion-Exclusive-Volcanoes-National-Park-and-Rainbow-Falls/d669-22796P3

We are doing 2 days in Hilo because our itinerary changed due to the fire in Lahaina.  Originally we were 2 days in Oahu. Since they removed Lahaina we now have one day in Oahu leaving at midnight then cruising Napoli coast then 2 days in Hilo and a short time in Kailua before heading to Vancouver.  Really looking forward to seeing everything!

  3. Can anyone currently on Celebrity Edge in an SV confirm if foot stools and  loungers are back on the balconies? Reading through this thread there is a lot of conflicting information.  Some say foot stools and loungers are gone and some say they are back.  I’m going to be on The Edge on May 1 and really looking forward to spending lots of time on the balcony.

    Thanks

Thanks for the great link, TMLAalum! It appears that stateroom 6127 wasn't included in the list, so here's hoping that it wasn't an oversight.

As was scouring the web the past few weeks, I came across another (albeit less official) website with photos of rooms with obstructed view. Thought I might as well share it here too.

    https://www.cruisedeckplans.com/ships/ov.php?ship=Celebrity-Edge&cabins=Edge

The strange thing is that although they did include a photo of room 6127, I can't seem to detect any obstruction in it. Perhaps, the default camera angle wasn't able to capture it within the frame.

The cabins on this deck have the lifeboats directly underneath so that’s why they say obstructed view.  I stayed in a similar cabin more towards the middle of the ship.  If you are looking straight out you don’t notice any obstruction. You can see the lifeboats when you are standing close to the window. I didn’t mind it at all and would stay in one of these cabins again.

This is the second leg of a transpacific relocation cruise originating on April 14 in Sydney.  The likely delay for boarding may be the result of a planned Coast Guard inspection, which is done when ships that have been sailing outside of the US first reach US ports.  In this case that would be Honolulu. This happened with us similarly with RCCL Ovation in April 2019 awaiting departure from Honolulu to Vancouver as the ship arrived from Sydney.

    Thanks!

I got an email from Flights by Celebrity today and they are notifying me that my 1:40 pm flight has now been changed to an 11:40 am flight. We have been on many previous cruise and would have never booked a morning flight out of any port city. Wondering if anyone has advise to share on the flight time. I will also be posting this question on the Pacific Coast threads, but need help while there is time to call Celebrity for a change.

You should be okay.  Normally you can get off the ship in Vancouver around 7 or 7:30.  If you don’t already have a transfer to the airport you can walk about 5 minutes to the Waterfront Station and take the Canada Line which will take you directly to the airport in 25 minutes.  Just make sure you get on the train YVR Airport.  It runs around every 5 minutes. There is another train called Bridgeport which does not go to the airport.

  7. Today is check in day for the May 1-11 Celebrity Edge cruise from Honolulu to Vancouver.  For some strange reason 2 pm is the earliest check in time even for suite guests.  It has been confirmed with Celebrity Concierge that 2 pm is the earliest slot available for everyone.  Has anyone encountered this before?  Normally there are check in slots starting at 11 am.  Wondering if it might be because of the late departure time of 11:59 pm or related to immigration as the ship will be arriving from Australia?

I agree boarding times should be like normal.  We left on the Eclipse out of Honolulu last May.  We chose a noon boarding time just to give us a bit more time to return our rental car and get out of our hotel but I'm pretty sure we could have chosen as early as 11:00 a.m.

I don't know if it was just our timing but that was by far the easiest embarkation I have ever done.  We never stopped walking except the brief pause to look at our documents.

    Thanks!

A few years back, we did Ricky's Tour in Hilo. It was a good tour and reasonable, too. We booked it ahead of time and he picked us up at the pier

    Thanks!  I’ll check it out.

I never been on the Edge but have done 3 cruises out of Honolulu. The boarding time have been the traditional 11:00am. They did require that all guest be on board way before the 11:59 departure.

    Thanks!

I’ve since discovered that the ship docks at 6 am so I think you are right that it will follow traditional boarding times.  I’ll board, drop my luggage and make sure I’m back for dinner.

  11. Does anyone know what time boarding starts for sailings that have a midnight departure time?  I’m doing a Hawaii to Vancouver cruise May 1. The ship departs Honolulu at midnight. Wondering if boarding will start at normal times or be later in the day because of the late departure time?  Does anyone have experience with departing late evening?

We don’t start our check in until March so I’m not sure what boarding times will be offered yet.  Just trying to determine if I will need to store my luggage at my hotel or if I can drop off my luggage at the ship and continue sight seeing.

    Thanks!

  12. Yes definitely interested in that. I don’t know anything about Hilo so will need to do some research. Was just looking for suggestions for excursions while the ship is docked there. Thanks for the info on the volcano.

  13. My May 2024 cruise on Celeberity Edge just changed to include 2 days in Hilo instead of going to Lahaina as originally planned.  Wondering if anyone has recommendations for things to do in Hilo?

    Thanks!

We are booked on the Equinox June, 4 2024.  For those of you that have cruised in early June, how's the weather and crowds?  Our ports are Rome, Naples, La Spezia, Santa Margherita, Cannes, Marseilles, Barcelona.  I know a lot of the outdoor sites have little shade.  We are from Arizona so we know heat, but I'm looking for first hand knowledge of these areas in EARLY June.

    Thanks so much!!

I did a similar itinerary in beginning of June 2019.  It was very warm and no rain.  Average temperatures were around 86 degrees.  Some ports a bit cooler.  I’m from Vancouver, BC and not used to super hot weather so it was a bit hot for me but okay still.  Enjoy your trip!

Been telling DW about it...perked her up as well. 😁

If you go enjoy!  My cruise isn’t until May 1 from Honolulu back to home in Vancouver.  I’ve never been to Hawaii so it will be nice to have a few days in a nice hotel before the cruise 😊

Have you looked on TripAdvisor? The reviews and comments on the Lounge are pretty solid.

As someone who is constantly looking for hotels with lounges and related amenities, it sounds pretty good to me. I would stay there.

Thanks. I’m definitely leaning towards it!  Good time to book too because they have a 30% off deal right now 😊

  17. I’m looking at booking a pre cruise room at the Prince Waikiki hotel and was wondering if anyone has booked a room with access to the club lounge?  Just wondering if it is worth the extra $100 per day?  Is it a set menu for the food or can you choose what you want from a menu?

    Thanks!
