  1. So sorry for your loss. I am posting to add if you don't have trip insurance ... if you paid with a credit card some of them have built in trip insurance. It is limited but I think it might cover your situation. You would have to contact the credit card company or research their policy. (Which sucks because I know that is the last thing you want to have to do right now.) Good luck and I hope your wife's wish can be fulfilled.

  2. I will let you know in about two weeks. We have a suite booked for our anniversary on the Sky. We have cruised with NCL before (NOT in a suite) on the Sky and know she is a small ship and the shorter cruises are their own special brand/type of cruise. But it is the only one we could fit in our schedule (we actually had to reschedule this cruise and NCL was amazing).

We have also cruised 5x with Disney, 1x with Princes (Alaska) and 1x (or 2?) with Carnival. So we have something to compare it to....

I must confess I am excited about the suite (never had one before) and when I told my husband about the services (like dining in etc) he was pretty impressed.

That being said I am not sure if I would have booked a suite if it wasn't our 20th anniversary - mostly because of cost. But I will let you know if it lives up to our expectations and if we would do it again - say for 25? :')

  3. I have no plans, but I have nothing against traveling to Cuba per se. The language in my comment was taken directly from the US government's guidelines for what counts as acceptable activities for Americans in Cuba. I'm not sure if people understand that this is what they're swearing to when they sign the travel affidavit, and it's kind of weird that Cuba allows Americans into the country under these circumstances, except that all parties involved seem to understand that this is just one big charade. Until someone suddenly decides that it's not… Unlikely, maybe, but a lot of highly unlikely things have been happening in the last few months.

It's not actually Cuba "allowing us into their country" under these guidelines. These are the guidelines/circumstance set forth by the US government under OFAC and the Department of Treasury. My guess is Cuba would very much like our $$ and tourist dollars and doesn't care why we are there . The US originally started the embargo against Cuba, including the travel ban and sanctions on trade etc. The US still has very tight sanctions against Cuba and imports. So if anyone comes after you for violating the travel affidavit, it will be the US government. Unless of course you are an "enemy of the state" from Cuba (which could mean anything they want it to mean). Then I don't recommend visiting as they might not let you leave. ;)

  4. Yes you may be correct. I really need that email address though because I can't find it anywhere. And the email that it's sent from' date=' the generic Norwegian Cruise Line, says that replies are automatically deleted. Can you please post the email address you sent it to??[/quote']

Try this or the phone number listed below. This is the email I received after I sent the forms. I can't find the "sent" email so I am assuming this is the email I sent it to. Hope this helps!

Thank you for contacting Norwegian Cruise Line.

We have received your "Cuba certification Form". Please remember that by law you are required to keep your copy for 5 years.

If you have any questions, please contact us at 1-800-327-7030.

Looking forward to welcoming you aboard Norwegian Sky!

  5. I have a question about this trip as well. Norwegian has sent an email with a link to the certification form needed. I printed it and filled it out. They say they need this document at least 3 days prior to departure' date=' but how do I get a copy to them?? I have paid the $75 fee through the cruise line.[/quote']

For our Cuba cruise we filled out the form, I scanned them (one for each of us), saved it as a pdf and emailed them back to NCL. I think there was a specific email to send the forms to. Once they receive them you will get a confirmation email back. Heads up - I thought they needed the form 30 days before?

  6. I have had three different sets of friends fly to Cuba and back in the last 3 months out of Tampa. All of them stayed for longer than three days at a hotel or AirBNB. Not one of them had a problem with anyone asking for documentation of their time spent there and what they did. (Which was wander around by themselves most days and maybe took a tour one day). Coming back through customs was no different than another country. You should be fine. Just keep your documentation of what you did in a file somewhere - for 5 years. My guess is no one is ever going to ask for it...

  7. flanesgrl, that is the cruise we are on!!! There is a tour that is even further so I don't think the distance was the problem. NCL's email said it was canceled due to a drought in western Cuba!? I'm still searching. I just cant see spending money to walk around town and listen to a guide. Just not our kind of thing. The outside companies I have looked at have yet to interest me either. Either to long of a ride, or to much money, or they are Havana tours that we could walk to from our ship.

I am sorry the tour was canceled and you won't be able to go. The only other tour that was offered for the full day in port that we liked was the longer one that went to the Vinales Valley... which is still being offered and is even farther west than the other tour!?

Unfortunately a family medical emergency came up and we had to move the cruise to another date in July. Sadly just a 3 nighter and not Cuba. Oh well - enjoy the cruise! Maybe they will come up with another tour to replace the one they took away.

  8. flapensgrl, it was the Flora and Fauna of Soroa tour. I was excited to go to the orchid gardens, but nope!!!

The other NCL Cuba excursions do not appeal to us. I will have to check out the sub forum mentioned above. I have contacted one outside tour company by e mail but have not heard back from them yet.

Oh wow! I was asking because we were scheduled to be on the June 5th cruise to Cuba and that was the tour we wanted to take! It looked great. I am sorry it got canceled.

My friends just got back from Cuba (not on a cruise) and said it takes forever to get anywhere. The cars really don't go that fast and the roads are terrible. I am not sure if this has anything to do with it... since the tour is pretty far out of town?
