  1. Question for bookings of 3 vs. 4: My fiancé and I have the SDP (3 nights of dining x 2 people), but we're also traveling with my eight-year-old son, since SDP is for two people only, and I guess NCL didn't offer me SDP for him as a minor.

    1. Do they have kids' menus we can order from? He's not a big eater. Or can we share with him?;p

    2. We got Moderno at 7 p.m. for one night, but for the others I'm finding that placing a reservation for just 3 people leaves us only the 9 p.m. time slot, but if I put that we're a party of 4, everything opens up. Will I get charged a penalty if I put 4 but only 3 show up?

  2. what can we do in Juneau? We are already going kayaking and fishing elsewhere. We wanted to sub with the Mendenhall Glacier trek, but my small 8-year-old is not heavy enough (?) for the trip (minimum 90 pounds), and it looks too strenuous for him.

We’ll have two fit adults, one child. Prefer not to whale watch because I get seasick (ironically).

Any suggestions for an active excursion in Juneau?

  3. They have sufficient lifeboat seats for the stated maximum passenger capacity.

But they also have more berths than they can legally sell, in order to be flexible in managing that capacity. Which is why the above response was cautious in stating that simply because there are two more berths in your cabin does not mean the ship is not already a complete sellout.

Just call tomorrow and ask; no one meant to dissuade you from trying.

Yes, that is the plan. I was simply trying to get advice from people who may know what to expect. Thank you.

  4. Typically the issue in adding a third person is whether there is space in the room. Usually you can't put 3 people in a 2 person room, for example.

Along with that is whether there is room in the lifeboat that room is assigned to.

Typically there are more beds onboard than space in the lifeboats. This allows for flexibility in booking rooms.

No way of knowing until you call and ask. If there's room, I'd guess the answer would be yes. And he would be paying the 3 person rate TODAY (not the rate he would have been had he been on the reservation to start with).

Yikes! Why would they not have enough lifeboat spaces for every potential passenger? Thanks for the reply. I wanted to know if I should even bother calling them tomorrow when they open back up. I am prepared to pay more, but hopefully there will still be room at all. Thanks so much!

  5. I've already booked/paid for my stateroom to cruise with my son on NCL. Due to scheduling changes at work, his dad is now available to go with us (he previously was not). It is past the "final payment" deadline and is about 90 days out. Do you think the cruise line will allow me to add my husband to our room and just pay for him like a third traveler? There is space for up to 4 people in the stateroom. Just trying to get advice before I call tomorrow. Thanks.

  6. I'm taking a mom-and-son (he's 7) cruise during the end of August to Alaska. We have only one particular week available to go, so I've narrowed down the cruises to two, but I can't decide. Here are the only differences between the two:

Cruise 1 (HAL Oosterdam) - visits Sitka and Hubbard Glacier

Cruise 2 (Norwegian Pearl) - visits Skagway and Glacier Bay

I've read to choose Sitka over Skagway but Glacier Bay over Hubbard -- which is why I'm asking now because I can't have both!

    Things to consider:

    a. If Cruise 1 can't reach Hubbard, will it go through Glacier Bay instead, or what is the "consolation prize," if anything?

    b. My son is young. I've researched the two but am not figuring out which ship is better for his entertainment. Same for ports. (Although, he's pretty well traveled and enjoys some of the excursions that adults typically do.)

    Thoughts, please?
