If you do book ahead, really do make sure that your ticket is valid before you get on a different train. As has been pointed out earlier, some tickets are priced lower and are not transferable.

I am pretty sure you can use that tickets for the earlier or later train, as the OP said is a frequent trains, almost every 30 minutes.

I don't think there is a need to pre book this . Villefranche to Nice is a commuter train that runs very frequently. And it's a trip of only a few minutes! There are ticket machines at the platforms, as well as a ticket office in the train stations.

Just rock up and get the next train coming.

Be aware that it is a walk of around 15 minutes or so from where the ships tenders will drop you and a steep flight of stairs up to the station in Villefranche.

There are a few very decent restaurants along the promenade in Villefranche that are a lot more reasonable than in Nice (or Monaco). Also the beach (pretty much below the train station) is one of the nicest along this stretch of coastline

But I heard on a cruise day, there will be a long queue waiting for ticket office. I want to save time and buy tickets online.

It will depend on type and class of ticket you purchase. Certain tickets are time dependent and would not allow any variation. Others, usually more expensive, allow greater flexibility. Thus you have to balance cost versus flexibility in your equation.

If I buy this flexible ticket (3.9 euro), can I take an earlier or later train other than 8:30 am? Or Do I have to go to ticket office to exchange an update time for that earlier or later train? Our ship will stop at the port of Villefranche-sur-mer. We plan to take the SNCF ter train to Nice. We want to buy train tickets from SNCF website in advance and print eticket. But from its website, I have to enter the date and specific time.

1) For an example, if I bought a ticket for 9:00 am and if I arrive at the train station earlier and an earlier train comes, can I use the 9:00 am ticket to board the earlier train without exchanging the different ticket?

2) Or if I am late for 9:00 am train, can I use the same ticket to catch the later train?

Thank you all. I really appreciate your detailed info and kind help. After I've read many people's stories about how the stolen passports messed up their trips, I feel nervous about carrying my passport around. Especially, some cities we will visit even don't have US consulate if people need to have new passports getting back to state.

We are going to Mediterranean cruise with Celebrity this fall. I know we should have our sea cards and passports when we embark the cruise first time. My question is: Do we need to show both sea cards and our passports when we finish our shore excursion on ports and go back to board cruise again? Many thanks in advance.

We are US citizens. I got different answers from different sources: If we have to use our us passports to take POA, even from my phone call from NCL customer service. We hope we only need to take our drivers' licenses. Can recent returned POA cruisers help me with this question? Many thanks in advance.

30 mins. PRIOR to sail away is the norm for ports of call.

When you disembark at a port, look for the sign that tells you when you need to be back on board. That is a good habit to get into.:)

The "2 hours before" rule is for the homeport sailing- where you start your cruise- Honolulu in this case. Port stops along the way are typically 30 minutes prior to scheduled sailings.

as I am sure NCL's policy is fleetwide and worldwide, not limited to Hawaiian cruises.

I am planning my shore excursion and want to know how late we have to return ship on a sailing day. For an example, on the second day of Maui, the ship is scheduled to leave Kahului at 6:00 pm. From POA's policy on their website, we should go back to ship before 2 hour of sailing time (6pm). Do we really have to go back to ship before 4 pm? How late do we have to return the ship on a sailing day?
