  1. We are cruising on the Ruby on the 22nd of this month, about a week away. I had made a reservation for Share, but received a barrage of voice mails from Princess saying Share would not be available on our sailing and our reservation was cancelled. A little later there was another call letting us know that they were comping us a free dinner at The Crown Grill because of the Share situation. I never actually talked to a live person so did not get the freebie because we expressed disappointment. Then this week I received a mass emailing from Princess regarding our specific cruise encouraging us not to miss out on the great dining experience at Share. Maybe if I rushed to make another Share reservation I might get another freebie at CG? [emoji16] Fairly certain it will be closed during our cruise.

  2. Speaking of tips... We will be in an aft suite on the Jewel in March, but how & where do you tip all these people? Will there be envelopes? Must it be done in person? Seems like it would be an awkward interaction, at least for shy types like myself. These are the weird things I worry about.

  3. Renting car at LAX pre-cruise. On morning of cruise, a Sunday, we will return car to LAX. Rental company shuttle will be dropping people off at departure terminals, but we need "arrival" since we plan to take SuperShuttle or maybe ExecuCar to the San Pedro cruise port. Will we be able walk to SuperShuttle area if we get off at departure area at LAX? Not worried about carting luggage, just finding our way around LAX. I looked at LAX map and it wasn't much help.

We plan to ask shuttle driver if it's possible to drop at arrivals but probably they have their route and may not want to deviate. I would call Hertz but have not had good luck finding a local number for airport locations. This may seem trivial but I am a detail person and like to be prepared logistically. Hoping LAX experts can advise.

  4. Very interested in replies here. My husband wants to wear dark jeans and polo shirt to dinners, can skip any formal nights. Think our biggest issue is we like to eat alone at table for 2. We tried that on Princess (Sapphire) about 6 years ago and the 2 tops were practically on top of each other. Didn't even attempt to eat in MDR's on HAL. We like specialties but again, husband hates changing into Dockers or anything too much like workplace when on vacation. Any type of set dining times would never work for us since who knows when we will be hungry? So far NCL seems our only option.

  5. On a 3 ship day a couple weeks ago we left our hotel, Delta Suites, at 9:30. We walked approximately 4 blocks to Canada Place and dropped our luggage. We then proceeded on to the rest of the boarding process. Could not have gone smoother. On this day there were port employees everywhere making sure you stayed on the correct route. As I recall it would have been easy to drop bags and head back out to sightsee. I have heard though that things could be done differently depending on what's happening at CP that day. I would stay at Delta Suites again. Less expensive than the hotels right on top or across from CP, but a very nice hotel and still really close. We booked refundable rate early and watched hotel prices rise leading up to the cruise.

  6. Disembarking San Pedro on Saturday Oct. 1st (Norwegian Pearl). Have flight choice of 1:00pm or 3:40pm on Alaska, non-stop. Missed opportunity for the 2:45, now priced too high. Could do early walk off with luggage. Not looking forward to hours at the airport so leaning towards 1:00pm. With current TSA issues thinking would be less worrisome to wait it out at the airport for the 3:40, although we do have TSA Pre-check. Not much of a gambler, leaning towards later flight. Only 2 prior cruises, so no expert on how these things work. Had long wait last cruise in FLL, was a tiresome day. Making reservations later today. What would you do, the 1:00 gamble or the 3:40 play it safe?

  7. I'm no expert on why cruises get canceled, but wondering if the Panama Canal cruises on the Jewel in February 2017 were a success booking-wise so our week long Mexican Riviera cruises are being re-deployed as such? Just a guess on my part.

I was able to get rebooked on the March 5th sailing (was on the canceled Jan. 15th). Same fare, aft suite on same deck, all 4 promos intact. A stressful hour or two. Best of luck to others affected. Good previous advice to make sure you are speaking to the right department. My TA had to be transferred.

  8. Just off NA a week ago. Room always comfortably cool even if away from it all day. Used the AAA card in the slot trick, but noticed cabin steward pulled it up, but not out, each time they entered & left the room. So, good luck with that. My only concern was the A/C, and it seemed not to be affected, and I'm pretty sensitive to room temps.

  9. Our embarkation Jan. 5th, on the NA was rough I thought. We arrived I think around 11:30, security line was almost to the entrance of the building but moving along fine, until they shut it down for about 10 minutes. Wondered why, but after proceeding up escalator and seeing Disneyland on a busy day snaking line, figured they had to stop security line because there was no more room in the check-in line. Took us about 30-45 minutes to get through that line, keeping in mind perceptions of wait times always seem longer for the tired, impatient person waiting. We were in boarding group 15, but by the time we finished check-in, all groups were boarding. Two lessons learned for us: do not take free car rental port shuttle, quite an experience, and arrive at port a little later.

Debarking was easy since we did Luggage Direct and off the ship early. Happy to get through fairly short Customs line, then did transfer to FLL so did not take notice of taxi situation. Security line at FLL was already getting long when we arrived around 8:30, and gate seating was filling up. Only flights leaving between 10 and 2pm were allowed through security. People with later flights were piled up near security, with their luggage. Later heard many people complaining about long security lines and not enough gate seating. I think airport issues were also a good reason to get off the ship ASAP, unless you have a later flight. Luggage Direct is a life saver for us.
