  1. I have read on these boards that they will bump her if she is close to the cut off age. The last cruise we went in 2013, my youngest was 10 1/2, they would not allow her to be with the older kids (her sister is 2 yrs older). They told us that if she was a year older they would have allowed it. It may depend on the staff that is running the camp on your ship.

Regarding the structure of Circle C, it is definitely less so than for the younger kids. They do have activities, but it was my experience that they kids would meet up at the Circle C spot, hang out a bit, do the planned activity, then sorta go on their own. We talked to our daughter before we went on the cruise regarding our "rules", etc. and never had any problems.

    Thanks for the additional info

  2. We were on the Magic in December as well as this sailing - this sailing felt more smokey. I really think there may have been some problems with the ventilation system on our sailing - we had no problems with the smoke in December. It just seemed a lot stronger than we remembered in December. I'm not advocating for removing any smoking area, I actually think they are well placed on this ship. Again, I just think it was a ventilation issue. :)

maybe with the post on the issue they will take a closer look at the ventilation systems.

  3. There are more than 2 and

They have changed the smoking area's on deck 11 back to midship and aft.

    Carnival Magic

Cigarette smoking (including electronic cigarettes and personal vaporizers) are permitted in the following areas:

    • Hat Trick Casino: Smoking is permitted while playing at designated slot machines and table games.
    • Hat Trick Casino Bar: Smoking is permitted in designated area.
    • Vibe Nightclub: Smoking is permitted but not on the dance floor.
    • Outdoors: Smoking is permitted in designated areas on Deck 5 (port side, aft, outside the Nightclub) and Deck 11 (starboard side, midship and aft).
    • Note: Cigar and tobacco pipes are only permitted in the above designated outdoor smoking areas on Deck 5 and Deck 11.

Thanks for the updated info. I see outside seating on Deck 5 10 11 12 15 if I am looking at the plans correctly.

It seems that smoking is allowed on 5 and 11 but not on deck 10 12 and 15. So Carnival is being fair with the ratio from Smoking and non smoking areas. I have smoked in the past and also quit so i can see both sides to this equation.

I would think that Carnival would lose out in the end if an entire ship became non smoking. We can have people say that not allowing smoking on Lido isn't fair and other say they cant walk thru deck 5 without needing a shower. I say to each there own. If we know up front about the entire situation then we can plan our vacation accordingly. I will be chilling all over the ship with drink in hand. Vacation is almost here.

  4. I was on same cruise and you are so right,Casino smoke was worst of any of my cruises and Rodney stunk!

I have noted that there is only two places to smoke on the magic.

Deck 5 outside /Casino and Deck 11 AFT. This is a larger ship and has a lot of people but it seems smoking is limited to two smaller areas.

My Question is can you access deck 5 forward and aft from another deck without passing through the casino. I also see that Lido is smoke free which i am good with. The remainder of the ship is a smoke free area, so there is lots of places for a non smoker to hang out. Also I think that smoking has been in casinos for as long as I can remember so most people will expect that. Sailing on the Magic in 18 days. Thanks for the info

  5. Everyone is different, but I always pre-pay for excursions and everything I can before I go on the cruise. I take around $300 cash, with a mixture of small bills. When I get off of the ship at a port, I usually take $100 cash and will use that for souvenirs and tips for excursions. I don't use my credit card at all, although I have it in case I need it. While on the ship, we rarely need cash. I always give a cash tip for room service. Since purchases on the ship are cashless, there is no need to carry much.

Perfect this is my plan ;)

  6. Question these parties are they held the evening before a sea day? I ask because we have early 8am excursions booked on Wednesday and Thursday but our sea days are Tuesday and Friday. Cant stay up till 2 am and back up at 7 am for an excursion. My daughter is excited and wants to attend the special parties. I have also read that the staff will bring your children back to your cabin. Can someone who has done this give me a little insight. Thank You all so much.

    Sailing in 23 days :cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool:

  7. Still have 23 days 20 hours 28 mins and 30 secs and this thread is stressing me out. Not gonna be up at 7:00 for a chair. Not gonna throw anyones stuff overboard. Will only use the chairs I need when our butts are planted in them. Will send hubby for a drink or take turns for bathroom breaks. When we leave that chair is free game for anyone. Will I be ok with this logic? First time sailing when school is out.

  8. I have never had a problem getting a chair. The only ones that seem to be taken early are the ones next to the pool. There are plenty of chairs away from the pool area or on the next deck up.

I was wondering about this. Say the deck above the lido with the pool. Are chairs still open later in the am like 10:30

  9. Thank you so much for that quick response. I have set her up with sign in and sign out privileges and we are planning to hit the meet and greet first night. I told her if she loses interest in an activity she can always choose to leave and come back to us. Just wanted to check with someone that had past experience. Thanks again.

  10. I have an 11 yo daughter that will be 12 in October. She is very mature and very responsible. (Only Child)..

I am wondering if she will be too old for Camp Ocean and if I needed to see if she can bump to Circle C..

Also I read a few reviews about Circle C not being as organized as Camp Ocean and that alot of kids ran around the ship unsupervised. She is a social butterfly and gets bored easy so she could use entertainment. She likes the idea of the late night parties like 11pm to 1 am she is a night owl, but I wasn't sure if those are hosted by Camp Ocean or Circle C . First time cruising with kids so lots of questions. Thank so much for your insight. Cruising in 24 days ;p;p;p;p;p;p

PS not sure this makes a difference but she is 5 foot and weighs 120 pounds. She fits in with 13 and 14 yo at school and camp easily

  11. Wife: four weeks out develop the lists of various areas of importance. Things like hair, house prep. Then sub lists of clothing by subsets.

Three weeks out: continue developing lists. Finesse clothing lists.

Two weeks out: finalize clothing lists. Get luggage out, clean and set up on a table in the bedroom. Using the semi-finalized lists begins laying things out.

One week out: start packing exercise. Undo and repack a minimum of three times. Get hair cut and colored.

Three days prior: mani-pedi, final packing. Start on house prep list.

Day two: check, double check air tickets, confirmations

Day One : unpack and repack for the last time. One last pass on the house checklist.

    Husbands

Day two: get suitcase, grab a bunch of underware, shorts, tee shirts. Assume wife has a suit, dress shirts and maybe a tie.

    Day one: leave

;p;p;p;p This is so our prep list LOL

  12. Your reasoning is the exact reason we don't think Cheers is cost-effective for us on most cruises. Worked out well on 4 day to Canada from NY (can only get 3 days - 2 of which are sea days) but on a typical 7 day, no way. On a port day we usually don't have more than 3-4 pp max on board the ship - we might have one or two in port before re-boarding. And even on a sea day, 6 drinks is quite enough for me: bloody mary at breakfast, a couple fruity concoctions in the afternoon, one martini before dinner and 2 after and I am a happy camper. The next day NEEDS to be a sea day...:o;p

Plus we usually have 2 bottles of wine in our room. Neither of us wants milk shakes or extra juice etc. DH will drink the coffees and expresso, but again, just not worth it. I don't think we have ever gone over about $400 on alcohol on a 7 day cruise on our shipboard account.

Thank You for that response. I am going ala cart and was looking at around 400 as well for us. Couldn't see paying $720.00 when we will be in port and off the ship for 3 days.

  13. Cruise Cash (general, bar, and photo) is really intended to be for gifts. Some people have found some value in using Cruise Cash to preload their Sign and Sail cards before boarding the ship (for whatever personal reasons they have). There is a limit of $500 per cabin for each category of Cruise Cash; therefore, if someone had maxed out on the general category and they know they will be drinking, they may wish to add bar cash, for example.

thats exactly what I did. Maxed out standard and added some bar cash
