  1. I was on the Victory when I had just turned 18 and was allowed to gamble for the first time. Tried the slot machines but didn't win anything. Then I found the game with the mechanical arm that pushes the quarters (and if you're lucky, some other prizes) forward. I sat there playing for a couple of hours on $20. After about the first hour, a man in his late 60s came over and started watching me play and talking to me. I was a little creeped out at first but he seemed friendly.

He was watching me play and talking and strategizing with me for about an hour when his wife came over to get him to go to the pool. He thanked me for not being scared that some random guy came to watch me play and said I had prevented him from blowing the $1600 he had just won on a slot machine. He gave me $40 for more quarters to keep playing! Later in the cruise he came and talked to me as I was playing that game again and gave me another $20- on two separate occasions! So I got $80 from a stranger over the course of the cruise!

  2. Something to keep in mind. The irons in the self serve laundry rooms get used a LOT. I don't know how often they're checked ( or replaced) by a staff member on the ship. Maybe only if a passenger goes to Guest Services and says "The iron in the laundry room on deck ## doesn't work." More than once, on different ships, we've tried to use one that either leaked, or didn't get very hot, or there was something else wrong with it. Your best bet is to pack clothes that are labeled "wrinkle free" (or similar). To eliminate the need for ironing as much as possible, bring a travel size bottle of Downy Wrinkle Release, and put it in a zip lock bag ( in case it leaks ). Hang the wrinkled garment up somewhere in your cabin, give it a few spritzes, smooth out the wrinkles, and let it hang until dry.

I plan on getting some of the wrinkle release spray, may consider ironing in advance based on your suggestions and others. Also maybe if I hang some stuff in the bathroom while showering the steam will get some extra wrinkles out

  3. For the past three years on three different ships I found the Sunbeam Simple Press Iron with steam and the "burst of steam" feature to be standard. Be sure to check the plate of the iron before using, some had a build up of burnt on gunk and others looked new, YMMV.

Thanks for the tip! Is there a sink in the laundry area to fill the iron with water?

  4. Hello all,

I am going on the pride with my husband (honeymoon!) on august 6. I have quite a few garments as does he that easily wrinkle. We have a garment bag that they will be stored in. However, I don't want to waste time ironing them before I pack just to have to re iron them once on board.

My questions are: do the irons in the self service laundrette have the ability to add water/steam setting? Are they good quality irons (like what you would use at home) or are they akin to the cabin hairdryers? Are the irons good enough for getting the wrinkles out or is it better to send your garments for a steam in the paid laundry bag with your cabin steward?

  5. Okay, since it doesn't sound like it would work for us to have all 3 phones on the one account, what would your suggestions be for being able to message each other throughout the cruise. (want to keep tabs on the teenagers). Cheapest way possible!

Hub app messaging for each person. $5 each for the duration of your cruise- $15 total for 3 phones. They will not be able to message people back home though.

  6. This might be a dumb question but would the social plan include the carnival hub app and be able to use that message feature for others on the cruise? Tia...

The hub app itself is free. The messaging through hub is a one time fee of $5 (per person) for the entire cruise. Messaging through hub is optional, you can use the app without it.

It is recommended to download the app before you board

  7. Make sure your booking numbers are linked. You can submit a request on John Heald's fb page 4 days before your cruise that the tables be near each other. Make sure you include ship, sail date, cabin numbers and a name from each cabin

Don't know that you can all be at the same table. The most I have had was 18. They put 3 rectangular tables in a U formation with all of us all the way around.

  8. Ask on the Carnival fb page. If they say yes, take a screenshot of the post with their answer to show if they give you a problem at the security check in. I don't think it would be a problem. I got permission to bring a glass bottle of sparkling grape juice instead of champagne. As long as it conforms to their size requirement (12 FL Oz or less per container- can or carton or 750mL or smaller glass bottle) it shouldn't be a problem. They are more concerned with people bringing plastic water bottles because people try to sneak liquor on board in them. Cans of juice or lemonade are allowed, I can't see why frozen concentrate would be different

  9. I cruised on the Sensation in August 2005 out of NOLA. The week before Katrina hit the city. They switched the order of two ports, we didn't miss either and the shore excursions desk just switched all reservations for everyone between the 2 days. The only "inconvenience" (it really didn't make anyone upset) was that we had to go down to the desk to get the new tickets with the new date.

We were supposed to stay in NOLA for two days after the cruise, obviously we left due to the mandatory evacuations.

My dad (I was cruising with him and my sister, I was 16 at the time) is a stickler for only getting direct flights. We wound up renting a car and driving to Nashville (14 hour drive) to get a direct flight back to JFK because the only available flights would have had a layover in Dallas and there were no available seats next to each other. So rather than being separated on the plane, we drove 8 hours, stayed at a motel in Mississippi and then drove the last 6 hours the next morning. Wish he would have let us stay in Nashville the extra night, but we didn't know how far north the storm was headed and didn't want to risk not getting back home.

  10. Hello all, I will be cruising in three weeks on the pride and I am wondering about the wifi on the pride. We will be on Panorama with an aft extended balcony... I want to be able to send imessages, and facetime mostly, I want to be able to stay in contact with my parents. So my question is, what kind of experience has everyone had with the wifi and what level did you get, is it worth it, or should I just look into how much it would be to have it through Verizon? And besides that this is our first cruise and tips and tricks would be helpful!

Thank you all in advance and happy cruising! :D

    From Verizon's website:

If you look in the bottom corner, it says that mobile data is not available on cruise ships. Even if it were, it would probably be some ridiculous price.

Their daily international plan has a price of $2.05 per MB. To put it in perspective, a 10 minute FaceTime call will use approximately 25 MB or more. So that 10 minutes cost you over $50. Not worth it.

The wifi plans look to be pretty reasonable. From what I hear, you will be able to Imessage back home even on the smallest (social) plan. I don't believe FaceTime is supported on any plans, but the most expensive plan says you can use Skype, so that might be an option for you too.

  11. My one complaint about Carnival is they refuse to allow this information out in advance. I plan my cruises over 1 year in advance and daydreaming is a big part of me getting my money's worth. The explanations I have been given in the past are that the schedule is customized each time. I think they just don't appreciate the value of just dreaming regardless of realistic expectations.

Another reason is that they don't often have the CD/ED schedule worked out that far in advance. There are similar events and activities across the board, but some CDs offer more trivia than others, etc....plus if there are major events going on (Halloween, super bowl, valentine's day....) the events might change to coordinate the holiday/time of year

So hard to find lol, and I don't think it's gone to curaçao yet, has it? Only Bonaire?

  12. Jeff,

Have been enjoying your review so far, and have gone back and read some of your past reviews! I am sailing on the Pride for my honeymoon in August and this review has been awesome and I am getting very excited

In the reviews of yours that I've read, you don't often mention getting the WCMC for dessert....do you not like it? IMHO I could probably eat 15 of them and not have a dinner entree. They are so good!
