Hello Viking Travelers:

I was wondering which excursions offered by Viking for the Romantic Danube cruise (both optional and included) that travelers love or dislike.  I would like to book worthwhile excursions, but avoid those that people find were a waste of precious travel time. We intend to travel during the summer.

Exactly!  On our Danube Waltz cruise (Budapest to Passau) last summer,  we sailed through all the way without problems.  However, those sailing on the Romantic Danube (Budapest to Nuremburg) that same week had to be bused between Passau (or maybe it was Regensburg) and Nuremberg because of water problems.

Hellio all,  My husband and I have been on a Rhine river cruise and are considering a Danube Viking cruise. I see that they offer two Danube cruises.  Does anyone know how to tell which one docks closets to town?  I would lke to avoid long bus trips to attractions, like the bus trip to the Black Forest.  Thanks

We stayed at the following hotel:

Hotel Victoria

in Basel, Switzerland.  Nice hotel, great bead.  It did cost about $35 for an uber from the airport, but after that we could take the free shuttle to the Viking ship.  It is across from a train station and has shops near by.

My husband and I went on the Rhine River Cruise (on Viking) and I was wondering when is the cheapest time to book a Danube River Cruise with Viking?  January?  Or maybe as soon as the next's years dates are released?

Thank you all for your answers. I would like to dress up, but do not want to feel out of place. Is the Captain's Dinner were people are most dressed up? The ocean cruises look wonderful.

Hello I was wondering what would be too dressed up for the Captain's dinner or the Welcome Aboard Dinner? I would like to wear a long dress, but do not want to be the only woman wearing one. Also, are people wearing athletic walking shoes when touring? This is the first cruise for my husband and I and would appreciate any help. Thanks

I have never been on a cruise and am planning on a river cruise for next July. Will I be missing out if I don't have a camera? I used to use a 35 mm camera eons ago, but don't take many pictures now except with my basic smart phone. If I need a camera any idea's what type would be best?

The departure city is Basel to Amsterdam. I am concerned about the price and time when deciding if I should book pre cruise travel, but if it is easy to get from the airport to the hotel and the hotel to the cruise port then maybe one day is enough time? Judy

My husband and I are about to book a river cruise and it is the first time we have traveled outside of the United States and I was wondering if the pre cruise days would be a good choice. Also do they generally have the $400 credit for excursions, prepaid tips, or some sort of beverage package perks when they first start selling the cruises? I thought it was there for 2018, but don't see it now. Thanks for your help.

My husband and I are planning on booking a cruise on the Viking River Cruise on the Rhine River. We are considering July 2018, as this is a financially a bit of stretch I would like to book when rates are at the lowest. The seem to have increased since Jan. 2017. Thank you for the help.
