  1. I have been a WW for 18 months and lost 45 pounds total. On my last cruise (Carnival Breakaway) I focused on getting steps in and allowed myself to eat what I wanted. I took the stairs for the whole week and never used the elevator. I worked out in the gym every day. I ended up not gaining weight. So I think that staying active is the key! I will be on the Horizon next November and Guy's Burgers will be my downfall! Probably will take about 20,000 steps to work off one of those!

That’s awesome that you didn’t take a vacation from your health on your cruise and that you compensated for eating what you wanted with more exercise. Way to go!

  2. How easy is it to get fresh fruits -- like apples, bananas, oranges - are they found in the buffets?

And who has taken any fitness classes, such as Zumba on NCL cruises? I'm also interested in swimming laps - are the pools decent for that?

It’s very easy to get fresh fruit at the buffet. They had pineapple, watermelon, apples, bananas, melons and oranges. Not very many berries though. They did have fitness classes but they cost extra. I honestly don’t remember how much and you need to sign up for them. I personally rarely used the elevator and probably walked 12-15,000 steps/day! Unless you have a spa pass, you probably won’t get to do laps unless you’re the first one in the pool. The pools are small and always crowded.

Don’t be ashamed. You’re back and that’s what counts. Even though I’m not doing WW, this is my millionth time of rejoining the weight loss journey. This time is different because I am learning how to change my daily habits that will make a life long difference. Lean into the process and learn each time you’re faced with life and ask yourself if that thing you’re faced will bring you closer to your goals or further from your goals and make a choice. We all have the power to choose!

  4. I misread the question initially....but I say Belize City just because there was nothing to do at the port. We were not allowed to leave the gates without an excursion. There were armed guards at the gate. Felt very uneasy. Other passengers that we spoke with had excursions and had a great time.

  5. I FINALLY broke through a plateau and am now the lowest I’ve been in 15 years! I have about 40 more pounds to go to reach my goal of 110lbs lost!

Starting in May I had lost 62 lbs before our cruise in December. I came home from the cruise and it was Christmas a day later. Needless to say the scale showed a 10 lb gain [emoji51]. BUT I got back on my program (not WW) on Jan 1 and lost it all by the end of January. February was slower but I did manage to lose 6.5 more! Our next cruise in Jan 2019 will be to celebrate my total weight loss which I should hit goal by summer! Just need to stay focused! This thread is encouraging!

  6. Going on my first cruise in 20 years with my two sons ages 8 and 3, Carnival Magic for a 7 night eastern Caribbean with my boyfriend and my friend in April. I’m the only prior cruiser!! But I was a kid at the time so this information has been invaluable to make sure everyone is comfortable and accommodated for.

My question: any decent port ideas involving children for the following ports? Amber Cove, San Juan, Grand Turk, and St Thomas.

Have considered Kon Tiki in St Thomas as it’s kid friendly. Booked a catamaran cruise with open bar and lunch in amber cove. Have nothing for San Juan. And I heard on there’s there’s a great free beach with chairs etc a five minute walk from port. Open to any and all ideas!!

Best thread ever, keep up the great work.

If your kids like history at all, the historical walk in San Juan was really good. They take you through town pointing out historical sites and giving you the history of San Juan and then you end up at the fort which was really cool.

Our friends hung out at the beach in front of Margaritaville in Gran Turk and loved it. Not sure if there was a cost or not. I think you just need to buy a drink or some food to use the beach but not sure.

  7. I am an extremely nerdy planner. So...I plan by looking at maps and history of each port. And plan my time there carefully. We have had such great adventures!

Second I was given great tips by my neighbor who loved to cruise. - take a shoe organizer ( over the door) so you have extra pockets to store in, high lighter to review the days activities.

    Have fun!!

I’m a nerdy planner too! Even with all my lists and planning I STILL forgot a highlighter! We obviously survived without it on our EPic cruise in December, but I do see why having one would have been helpful! As far as the show organizer goes, we didn’t need one as the Epic has TONS of storage in the balcony cabin.

  8. I have been doing WW for almost 2 years now and am lifetime and 50 lbs lighter. I have been in maintaining since Nov, 2016 and have done great until this pass December. My husband and I went to Disney World and then with the holidays I gained about 6 lbs back. Now I am trying to drop those 6 lbs before our cruise in April. I am having so much trouble the weight isn't moving. One week I'll be down maybe .8 than the next week I'm up a lb. I'm up and down from one week to the next, I don't know what else to do. Can't wait till the weather breaks and I can get more active, that might help. Good Luck to everyone here, we can do it, just have to stay on track.

Maybe try focusing on only Whole Foods and avoiding starchy foods for a week. I would stick to lean proteins, lots of non-starchy veggies and other low glycemic foods. Maybe even limit or eliminate fruit for just a week to see if that helps. Eating small meals every 2-3 hours helps stabilize you blood sugars and metabolism as well. Also drink at least 1/2 of you body weight in oz of water to help flush out the toxins and extra fat cells.

  9. Thank you for letting me join in! Thanks! I’m in the last 1/3 of my 110lb weight loss phase and am kinda stuck. I FINALLY lost another 1/2 lb to bring me to my lowest weight in 15 years! I have 42 more to lose hoping to reach my goal by summer. We will be going on a cruise in Jan 2019 as my celebration! I’m so excited!

  10. So I need some opinions and I do know that everyone has their own tastes. In preparation for my cruise this upcoming week(SO PSYCHED) I was looking at Cagney's menu. Now, I know what I will get for the entree and dessert, but the choice of appetizers has got me in a conundrum. They ALL look good.(Okay, sans the beet app. Not a big beet fan) Can I get people's opinion who have tried them what they prefer. Thanks. :D

Lump Crab Cakes | Pommery Mustard Sauce

Slow-Roasted Pork Belly | Apple Cider Marinade | Honey Soy Sauce

    Oysters Rockerfeller | Mornay Sauce

Chilled Colossal Shrimp Trio | Jack Daniels Cocktail Sauce

Beet and Goat Cheese Napoleon | Truffle Vinaigrette

Honestly leaning towards either the crab cakes or the pork belly, although the oysters and shrimp also sound good.

Where did you see the menu?

  11. Hi there,

I just got off the Epic on Saturday, and I'm already wanting to go on another cruise! LOL! To answer your question, I have listed some of the prices of activities that we did or saw while on the Epic!

Bowling - $7 per person per game

Cirque Epicurean - approx. $35 for regular seating which fills fast, my wife and I did the upgraded seating. I think its about $10 more.

Escape the Big Top (escape room) - Complimentary

Bingo - 3 tiered packages. $39 for 3 cards. $49 for 6 cards, and I can't remember the price for 9 cards (sorry)

Deal or No Deal - $25 per card. You can win prizes from the cards directly, and 2 cards are chosen at random to play DOND.

Slot Tournament - $20 per entry (You may rebuy if you don't qualify)

Blackjack Tournament - $20 per entry (May rebuy)

Ice Bar - $20 per person (includes 2 drinks)

Wifi - They have the time packages that are already listed on their website, but for wifi for the entire 7 days is about 200, but they also have a social media package which is about 100. My wife and I both got the social media package. Facebook, snapchat, facebook messenger all work with it.

NOTE: I would really recommend NOT playing Bingo, DOND, or any of the tournaments.

For the slot and blackjack tournament, they have qualifying rounds every day of the cruise, and they will continue to host rounds as long as people are buying in. Even if you win your round, there is a VERY high chance you will NOT move on. The top 6 ending totals from all qualifying rounds are the only ones who will play in the finals. Also, it is a very small prize of $500 to a single winner. I've seen smaller tournaments give away prizes of over $5000 distributed among the final table. If you want to play for the experience, I would recommend only playing once.

We only ate at the complimentary restaurants, but I know the Brazilian steakhouse is about $25, and the teppanyaki place is about $30. I do believe the other ones are a la carte pricing.

If you have any other questions about specific things, I will do my best to remember. :)

Edit: Also, my wife and I both got a massage and facial. It was called the Head to Toe special. It is not listed on their website. It was a special in the Freestyle Daily. Once it appeared, it was available for the rest of the cruise. It was $149 for 75 minutes. They will also add 18% for gratuity automatically.

Additionally, the ice bar is BOGO if you have the drink package. My hubby actually won the slot tournament and we used the winnings for a cruise next deposit purchase!
