  1. No longer a format for sitting at home with your laptop or PC and enjoying the journey. All about smartphones and tablets. I thinks most CC members and users are the former. Oh, and yeah, lots of room on the right for ADS ADS ADS. Best plan is to no longer tap into the progressive blogs. Just google to get the info you need. This is clearly related to their CC DUBIOUS cruise ships ratings based on reviews. Just like IVANKA perfume being a best seller with 50% 5 star and 50% 1 star Amazon ratings. Too bad an user driven site has been taken over by the profit motive. I can live without and vote with my fingers.

  2. Scam? How's that? It is up to you as a buyer to do the math and determine if this is a good deal to you regardless of the so called Sale. MSC never says its cruise prices won't change from one day to the next.

The 2 for 1 promotions are based on BROCHURE RATES which can be found on the web site as you work your way thru a booking. Just like the $300 published rate for your favorite hotel room for which you paid $120.

"We picked the wrong solution" - Andy Stuart COO. NCL[/QUOTE]

Don't rule out that the food ban was a diversion from complaining about the exorbitant room service charge and would ultimately not prevail. Cruisers feel they won but did they really? Too much outrage about not being able to carry cookies to the cabin and not enough about the narrowing of the expected amenities (free room service) when paying a large sum of money for a cruise. How about more restricted free buffet time and more ala carte fee food venues. How about pool towel rental fees. Show fees. Etc. Ya think?
  4. I see no 'official' announcement from NCL. I see a bunch of people getting all twisted up on a web site dedicated to good feelings about cruising. Can't read this no more.

(REPLIED TO MYSELF SO YOU KNOW WHERE I AM COMING FROM....). Some confirmed facts for you from Wikipedia:

"420, 4:20, or 4/20 (pronounced four-twenty) is a code-term that refers to the consumption of cannabis and by extension, as a way to identify oneself with cannabis subculture or simply cannabis itself. Observances based on the number 420 include smoking cannabis around the time 4:20 p.m. and a.m. everyday....I think you all got punk'd lol. PS I am REALLY not going to read this no more.

  5. Your buddy was not the OP, "Trekker954" was.

Have you offered any condolence message on this forum? NO. I have, because for I feel for the injured passengers and familes who have lost loved ones.

Do you know or ever sailed with Costa? NO. I know Costa well and have cruised with the many times and am here to help members with questions relating to Costa.

Your buddy trivialise themselves with such answers showing that they slpt through geography lessons. I offered criticismand opinion all in one.

LOL so now you go after me.....how the heck did you go from geography lessons to cruising on Costa? Give it up! Take my opinion of your comments like a.......

  6. WRONG - Cruise Critic is a moderated forum on various cruise topics, if someone offers up their views as they see things, other members who do not agree have the RIGHT to ffer up their views. If your original poster slept throught their geography lessons at school, then present false information then they will get hit.

KEEP ON PUSHING DOWN! I am glad you took the time to AGAIN trivialize the original poster especially in the midst of this devastating tragedy. Anyone who has cruised and cruised with a loved one was right there with these passengers when they stepped off the bus. You offer criticism of a personal nature NOT opinions. SHAME ON YOU AGAIN!

  7. With ISIS on the march I don't think people from western countries are safe anywhere in the Middle East. I don't think the cruise ships should be going there.

I agree with your observation except that cruise lines will go where the money is and as long as there are bookings they will travel. We cruised to Egypt several years ago, bussed around with armed guards, and heard of female travelers being heckled back to the ship when they tried to tour. Vendor harassment was over the top. We actually paid for these experiences! Enough for us!

I believe that 'sitting duck' cruise excursion routines need to be rethought and more government involvement in protecting their tourists. We will be 'rerouting' our travel dollars to areas that ensure greater peace of mind. I do not feel sorry for the country that has so little control or subscribe to cruiser bravado/swagger and entitlement.

A side issue is how this poster was ridiculed by other subsequent commentators. Really!!!! Cruise Critic is supposed to be a site for shared perspectives and information to help us have a more enjoyable and SAFE cruise experience. Way too many posters who need to push someone down to elevate themselves. SHAME ON YOU!

  8. Thinking for the Spring Break for Carnival Pride 2.0, I heard there is a new Wifi@sea from Carnival for the Caribbean line. We took the pride last summer, and it was very slow and expensive, and I can't even do a VPN with the internet connection.

    Thanks,

2.0 had nothing to do with internet service improvements...$90 for 240 minutes..selective ability to access web pages. Deal breaker was not being able to checkin Southwest 48 hours before getting to Tampa and ending up in the end of the line to get on a totally full plane the day of embarkation. Never again.

  9. It is pretty dreary. Some of the art in the elevators has been vandalized and not fixed. ie: nipples scraped off leaving just a white mark. This can easily be masked with a dark marker but it's so obvious because it is white. The only nice places are the new areas. The rest of the ship looks old. Even our cabin felt dated and it was an OS. Big stain on the carpet and the changing room sliding pocket door was broken.

I would point to those Baltimore hooligans LOL.

Pride was one of 7 Carnival ships that recently passed CDC inspection 100%.

I think I will ignore dreary wall-paper and chipped veneer.

  10. This is the answer I received form the Casino when I ask why I never get any offers. I was surprised.

    Hi Paul,

The offers you would be qualifying for are sent to guests who are not future booked. As you book your cruises so far in advance, you would be receiving those particular offers. That would be the only reason as your profile is opted into marketing from the brand. Thanks!

Guess they already got me coming back so they don't need to woo me. lol

We always book really last minute over the last 10 years and for at least 6 prior Carnival cruises in the middle of about 20 and NEVER recd a casino related booking offer.

My best educated guess is the guest would have to be an established (losing) gambler. To each their own. I'll take my DH's military rate any day and a daily stroll on the jogging track when the sun comes while on my cruise!

  11. Sounds like normal just out of dry dock stuff. I'm sure the kinks of a new crew, new bands, etc will be worked out before we get her back in Baltimore!

I don't believe that all the staff are new to the generic operations of a cruise ship. They come from other cruise experiences. I have read of similar issues with the Pride BEFORE drydock. Basic cleanliness in a cabin, tables in an eating area, cleaning dirty cushions do not require an associate's degree. Oversight is not functioning and employees are unmotivated.

I don't ask for much and have always enjoyed my many cruises BUT there are some minimum expectations.

I cruised Legend last January and for the first time walked into a cabin that made me stop dead in my tracks. There was so many smears and dirt that my view out the balcony door was distorted. The reflection off the glass over the art prints and cabin mirror was downright slimy. The balcony was filthy. I left a note for steward that I needed a clean mirror and window out to the balcony and a clean balcony floor that did not leave particles on my bare feet.

I was told someone else does the balcony window ??!! but it and the mirror was cleaned. Balcony and prints remained dirty.

I observed my steward generally shooting the breeze way too much with the guests and on his cell phone. He was actually looking at his cell phone (text) while I was talking to him about cleaning my cabin. I still had a great time cuz I am not that way BUT I am now sailing on the Pride in January.

I am concerned about the reports pre and post dry dock.

If I walk into the same situation, trust me, I will first call for the presence of the head steward (missing at the last cruise) then I will clean it myself (former motel housekeeper in college) with the staff cleaning equipment and take their tips back. Same thing in the lido dining room and advertise my actions. I will probably take a movie of my hard work and post it here LOL.

These are not frivolous issues but I don't let it ruin my vacation but plan to address it much more differently, take care of it, them move onto my great time! Do not minimize it and make the guest a bad guy. We are creating a group of marginal cruise staff who will come back to bite us the next cruise!

  12. Texas--A whole other country!

    (Long time ad campaign.)

And, yes, Texas is the only state in the union to be an independent republic...

Having said all that, it's not that long of a drive from Galveston to New Orleans. Texas residents have always been required (largely unenforced) to pay usage tax on out of state purchases, duty free, etc. But this would pretty much zap nonresidents as well, and I don't recall if Texas has a rebate program for non-US visitors; some states do.

I have visited the Rio Grande valley every February the last several years. I have always be taxed for alcohol purchased across the border even though I am not a resident of Texas. Texas now states only Texan cruisers will pay. What about non-Texan visitors like me? What a can of worms considering the number of non-resident Winter Texans. Serves the government if this blows up in their face....always wheedling a way into our pockets for more!
