  1. Carrington's has an awesome little museum, especially if you like ivory. I second Dough Boy, but stay out of the quilt shop unless you are independently wealthy or won a large jackpot on the ship. Alaska Geographic is across the street from the Park Visitors Center. Try the spruce tip beer at the brewery and fudge from Alaska Fudge. Tee shirts from the Harley shop.... check out the hardware store to see where Alaska bush people shop...

Don't go to the library to try to get on wifi. Skagway is a small town of around 800 people, slow wifi, and bad cell service. When there are up to 15,000 people in town the internet pipes get clogged. If you have to get online, go to the crew internet center on 3rd ( or maybe its 2nd) and pay for it.

Thank you so much for all of these recommendations and tips! It's all greatly appreciated! 😁

  2. Ketchikan!

    Ketchicandies - 500 Mission Street

SE Alaska Discovery Center - 50 Main Street ($5 admission)

Burger Queen - 518 Water Street (popular with crew, I hear)

Hive at the Creek - 716 Totem Way #100 (bead & yarn store)

Parnassus Books - 105 Stedman Street

The Outlet Store - 5 Salmon Creek Landing #100 (I think it's mainly souvenir-type items)

Whale's Tail Quilt Shop - 5 Salmon Landing, upstairs

Salmon Market - 200 Main Street (salmon in pouches & cans, other food items)

Sam McGee's - 18 Creek Street (looked like a fun, whimsical shop with food items)

Soho Coho Gallery - Creek Street #5 (artists Evon Zerbetz & Ray Troll, among others)

Terry Pyles, artist owns The Point café & coffee shop (his art is sold there) - 25 Jefferson Way #102 (West of downtown area)

Funicular to Cape Fox Lodge - Creek Street ($2 RT)

Schoenbar Trail - can get there on city bus, silver line

Thank you so much for all of this information, it is greatly appreciated!

  3. Hi everyone! I'm going on a cruise to Alaska this August and I have mini suite 11516 booked. My only true concern is the noise level, due to the fact that the room is directly below the fitness center and that it is located next to a set of stairs. I was wondering if there was anyone who has stayed stayed in a suite/mini suite on the Pearl below the gym or next to these stairs that could let me know their impression of the noise level. This would be greatly appreciated, thank you! 😁

  4. Hi everyone! I'm going on a cruise to Alaska this August (my first one ever), and I already have an excursion for Skagway booked (White Pass Rail w/ gold mining). Since my ship will be in port for roughly 12 hours, and the excursion will be 4 1/2, I was wondering if anyone had any reccomendations on shops to visit/places to go in town. I would really appreciate any suggestions! 😁

  5. Personally, I wouldn't pay a bit of attention. What's your concern? Is it because of his age? If NCL allows him to order off the children's menu then he's free to do so. It doesn't matter what other guests think about it--it's up to NCL. :)

Thank you for the feedback! It's just the fact that I've seen a few threads criticizing parents who bring kids to teppanyaki just for the kids to order off of the kids menu.

The main complaint was just that since teppanyaki has such limited seating, kids who are going to order off of the kids menu shouldn't really be there. I really appreciate your perspective so thank you!

  6. Hi! I'm going on an Alaskan cruise (my family's very first cruise) in August on NCL Pearl with my parents and my younger brother who is going to be 13 at the time of cruising. My parents and I greatly enjoy the food offered at Teppanyaki (as we have been to similar places at home) and we love the show the chefs put on, so we would love to dine there on our cruise. The only problem is, my younger brother is very picky about what he eats, and as much as he would be captivated by the showcase, he would most likely want to order off of the children's menu.

As this is a controversial topic, we would most likely make a reservation for an earlier time, but I'm just curious as to how you personally would react if you saw someone like my younger brother at Teppanyaki ordering off of the children's menu. We haven't made a reservation yet obviously, and are still deciding whether we should make a reservation so your feedback is greatly appreciated! Thanks!
