  1. I grew up in the 80’s watching The Love Boat. I had the feeling that cruises were for the ultra rich, but had the deep conviction that someday I would be on one!

Luckily for me it became more affordable, and in 2005 my sister and I decided to bring our mom on a cruise for her 60th birthday. I was 28, and it was even better than I expected… since then I have been on a cruise ship at least once a year, except in 2021.

  2. Hi everyone. I thought I could share my personal experience about this topic.

I tested positive to COVID with a home test on February 6th. I went to a private clinic on February 7th to have a PCR test (so I could come back to Canada without test in the next 180 days).

On February 25 I went to SDM (Pharmaprix here in Quebec) to get an antigen test for my cruise. I lied when they asked me if I had EVER tested positive.

I used my negative antigen test to board my cruise on RCCL Anthem on February 27.

I came back to Canada on March 6th with my positive result from February 7th.

  3. If any of you feel generous and want to help Karine Gagne, her father set up a crowdfunding account here: https://www.onedollargift.com/ca-fr/Reve-aider-ma-fille-emprisonne-a-tort-au-bahamas-16783

I know we all agree she DID commit a crime according to the Bahamian law (if it's true they had sex), but I personally think she doesn't deserve to be in jail.

Her case will be heard in court on February 3rd.

  4. It is definitely possible to switch a guaranteed room after it has been assigned, I did it last year. I was really disappointed in my assignment, especially since there had been major price drops since I had booked. About 2-3 weeks before sailing, there were many cabins left, so I called to ask to be changed (it was the third time I tried) and they finally let me.

On another note, where I live (Canada) at 19 you are considered an adult in all aspects of life, so I wouldn't consider it a big deal if my adult child and teen child were two decks away from my cabin. Personally, at 19 I was traveling by myself.

  5. Thank you for your answer. We are French-Canadians.

On our last family cruise, we were on a Carnival ship from NYC, and there were a few French-speaking kids, but still, my daughters wanted to be together. I know some kids don't mind the language barrier, but I have to say it is definitely better when you understand others... In a few years my daughters will have learned quite a bit of English and our cruises will be a great opportunity to practise, but for now, they'll stick with us. At least on the Getaway there seems to be a lot of activities for children. :)

  6. I am not Platinum yet, just Gold, but I recently booked a Guaranteed inside, and ended up with the worst 4A, Riviera deck far aft.

I called Carnival 3 times to have them change my assignment, and it finally worked this morning. I have to say my sailing is not full and the prices have dropped, this may have helped.

Anyway, if you are not happy with your assigment, call them, the worse they can say is no. I think that being a Platinum guest should definitely help.
