  1. HI,

We are sailing on our first cruises this weekend and I was reading something before that reminded me...

I read that we "check in" our check in bags (big luggages) and bring in something smaller bag first to use before we get our luggage.

So is it One bag per family do we bring in when we board or one per Person carry on bag or personal bag per person? Could that be rolling carry on hard case or do they need to be soft non-wheeled bags?

We are a family of 5 and I would like to know where I should put kids swim suits and stuff we will need.

Also how late do we get all our luggage? Do we get them on the same day of boarding (that night)?

I'm not done packing and I'm getting nervous that I'm going to miss something that we didn't bring (especially for kids).

    Thank you.

  2. 1st time for a cruise and Athens and my husband would like a guided tour when we get to Athens. NCL provided tours are expensive and we have a 8 year old who might not enjoy the guided tour (walking, talking and following the crowds). Should we book a private tour or stick with the ship provided ones? I don't want to leave my child in the ship but I would hate to pay high fee for him and him wanting to stop in the middle of the tour (due to tiredness or boredom). Private tour appeals more for flexibility? If you know any good tour guide who also provide transportation, please let me know.

    Thank you.

  3. Hi all,

First I was just on the phone hoping to talk to someone at NCL but got hung up after waiting for awhile. I thought I would get more accurate and fast answer here :)

We are sailing this weekend for the 1st time and I have a few questions.

    * On board pool - do they provide pool toys or floats for kids? Do they have life guards?

*In the policy section- they said kids under certain age (teen age like 14? I remember) need to be with a adult while at pool. So I understand there will be no adult life guard or adult workers overseeing the pool area for supervision?

*Entertainment - In My Vacation, this section is grayed out. I am guessing it is fully reserved? (We did book this cruise last minute). Is there a chance that we will be able to join any entertainment shows? Can I put my name on a wait list once on board?

    * Excursion - can we reserve once on board? Or do we NEED to make a reservation before departure?

    Thank you.

  4. Thank you Tom for the links! I will look them up.

I did run the search here but didn't see the information I was looking for. I was hoping to hear from someone who did the travel in the 2 specific countries I mentioned :) Maybe there is a SIM or data service that work for both countries since they are neighboring a border, I don't know.

There are many previous threads on the issue on cc. I recommend you use the search function to locate them.

Here is a thread in this forum that is fairly current.

Buying cell and data SIMS in Italy

There is also a great wiki page on the use of SIM cards in EU.

This one is specific to Italy.

Google is a wonderful thing. Good luck

    Cheers

  5. I am looking at rooms on Star and was wondering if anyone stayed in 12506, 12508, 12006, 12008 ?

My question is would you have obstructive views since these rooms are next to the big rooms (12502 and 12002) with wings sticking out?

Also rooms near the elevator - 520, 522, 020, 022 would people be able to see the room when the room door is opened? Would these rooms be under the jogging track (noisy)?

    Thank you.

  6. I found this thread while researching the similar question.

We are looking for our first cruise options (travel in May). My teen boy will be almost 15 by the time of travel.

However I also have 8 yr old boy and 11 year old girl at the time of travel also.

We are currently based in SE Asia and we are thinking maybe Europe or Australia cruise.

The older boy likes video games, snorkel, swim, reading, board games...

8 year old boy loves anything active - swimming, slides, climbing, games...

11 year old girl - anything artistic and crafty, making stuff, girly stuff...

Can anyone recommend which cruise liner suit best for my kids age group?

    Thank you for advice.
