  1. Well, posting after a long time, but just booked our next cruise for this summer, but not Carnival or even the carribean for that matter. Staying in Europe, going from Germany to England, France,.Belgium,.the Netherlands and back to Germany. Very curious about the ship, "Mein Schiff 5". According yo YouTube it should be good
    Looking forward to it.

  2. Strong ,beyond strong.
Strong, really? I don't know if we dutch drink very strong coffee to your standards, but it was more like old heated up tea then coffee to be honest. We didn't like the coffee on lido and mdr, got everything from dreams.

  3. Soooo, we are back home.. and it's cold here haha.

I'll make a little summary of vacation.

    We loved it!

We had some problems on our way to the U.S.A. (TA made a type error with the ESTA, which means it is not matched to the pasport,.and they won't let you board the plane) and having a taxi who crashed his car into an other taxi while leaving the terminal in Miami! Stood there for over an hour. At this point we were already 20 hours on our way so we were getting a little bad tempered.

South beach is nice to stay for a day or 2, but we think it is a little too expensive for our liking there.

Embarkation; we had a boarding ticket from 1-1.30 pm. We arrived 10 minutes early, but could walk straight through. We had to make a picture witch meant we could walk right past the lines in the terminal, and were on board in less then 15 minutes.

After that, and the fun day at sea, we were just looking around en wondering about all the stuff that goes on. In 3 of the 4 ports, we did excursions by Carnival. We enjoyed esspecially the excursion in Grand Cayman. In Cozumel we went to Mr Sancho's.

About the Glory, it is not the biggest or newest ship, and you can see that she needs some maintaining (floor in the casino, lots and lots of rust by the balcony for example) but we loved her. Although we got lost a few times, especially getting to Platinum restaurant deck 3 aft.

We are not big fans of buffet, we ate at the MDR every evening. Nothing to complain really. Steak was to far sometimes, but got a good new one in stead. Service was great the MDR. The cabin steward,.haven' t seen him till monday evening en never seen him again. Room was clean though.

We had cheers, but did we break even? Don't think so, my gf at least not. But would purchase it again, just to be on the safe side and not thinking about every drink.

Deembarkation wasn't smooth. While we had a hotel for the night, we had one of the later numbers..it was 11.30 i believe before we got off and wend to costums.

  4. You didn't mention which hotel you were staying at. Have you checked to see if they offer a free shuttle from the airport. Lots of hotels do.

By the way, your English is a whole lot better than some Americans that post on here. ;);)

    Thanks, nice to read haha.

We will be staying at the Residence Inn at South Beach. Seemed o.k., price was good, pretty central and clouse enough to port and airport.

  5. Goodmorning from the Netherlands.

Yes i will be carefull with pills and mixing, haven't had a sleep without them in 12 years so i know the drill i guess haha.

    1 more question,

When we arrive in MIA and order an Uber, what type do we need? We are with 4 adults, all have a suitcase and carry-on. Is an Xl big enough? Or should i order 2 ubers?

    Tia!

  6. Thanks for al the awnsers.

I am taking my own pills with me in original package, with docters perscription and a form from the pharmacy in English, just enough for the days.

2 more days and we'll be flying away from Amsterdam. Can't describe how much we are looking forward to this.

Only concern is, we have late time dining. Somehow i think this is going to be a sleeping dinner because of jetlag (it is 2.15 am in Holland then)..and i think roomservice with coffee around 6 am will be an idea for the first few days due to time difference. Oh well, we will see how it goes and enjoy every minute of the trip.

  7. I have one more, slighty embarrasing question.. i have a "sleaping disorder", and won't be able to sleep without some sleeping pills. I have never given it any thought, but without a docters declaration and paperwork from the embassy i'm not allowed to taked them with me. There is no way i have this ready before the cruise. i don't see the humor in getting some extra free time from work due to drugs transport, eventhough its only 10 tablets. Are these things available in the US in some big shop of pharmacy or even on the ship (legal ofcourse!)

    Sorry for the dumb question.

  8. Yeah there are plenty of options in Roatan, but my mom en her bf Wanted to go to something they went before, so thats why its this.

Just saw there are (some) fttf tickets available, we are talking about taking it.

Stupid question, what type of powerplugs are used on the ship? Do i need the American conversion type?

Yes its the first time for me and my gf going west from Europe.

  9. Thx for the Turtle tip! Somehow i'm allergic to those expensive pictures and must because of only option. We will do it a little afterwards with family. Dining in south beach is the only thing actually that i haven't planned, simply because of the long flight from Amsterdam with stops in between, leaving early morning here, adjusting to the time in Miami, have the idea that we are tired as we can be then haha. We will see what we will do there, but will take the adress with me.

    Thx!

  10. Sounds great. I have done this itinerary and loved it. What excursions will you be taking?
At Grand Cayman; Stingray Sandbar, Hell & Turtle Center Experience

At Roatan; Relax On The Beach Package

At Belize; Snorkeling Wonders of the Barrier Reef

At Cozumel i booked mr Sanchoz for the 4 of us.

Me and my gf have naver been on a real cruise on the open water, we did a Nile cruise a few years ago which was great but at no point similar to this.

My mom and her boyfriend, whom will be sailing with us, have been on a few cruises, same itinerary as this but did this with Costa Luminosa i believe, they did a cruise with "Mein Schiff" to Aruba, Barbados and those islands, and with Costa Atlantica from Dubai to Singapore. As i can see Carnival is moreof a joy and fest cruise, not so much high end and luxery which would suite us just fine. Guess we will have a blast.

Sorry about any type errors, don't use my english enough

  11. Hi fellow cruisers,

My name is Bas, we live in the Netherlands near the German boarder.

16 months ago we booked our first cruise. In 40 days, we will be embarking the Carnival Glory. I've read tons of information on this forum about the ship, cruising itself, the ports and so on. I want to say thanks for all the info!

We will be flying out of Amsterdam on sept. 21, to Miami. We have a hotel for a night before and a night after the cruise in South Beach. Sept. 22 we will be sailing out of Miami to Grand Cayman, Roatan, Belize and Cozumel. We booked excursions through Carnival for all stops execpt Cozumel, we will do a Mr. Sanchoz day there. Although we are not the biggest drinkers as far as alcohol goes, we do like our speciality coffee, occasional beer and all, we purchased Cheers to be on the safe side and not think about a big bill afterwards. We have cabins 6269 and 6267 on the ship. Hope they are any good. We are really looking forward to it.

    Gr. Bas.

  12. If you are in Amterdam, every gasstation or small shops sell sim cards without contract. Buy one from Lebara, kpn, T-mobile and then buy some data. 5gb is about 20 euro's, most people have enough for a cruise. U can use it in the whole EU, no more roaming allowed over here.

  13. I have no idea what to do with internet over there. Its increadebly expensive for me to use my phone outside of Europe, don't if there is free wifi on the airport? Otherwise we will just walk outside and see what we will do then. What will be a normal fair to south beach?

  14. The Carnival app doesn't really do anything until you are on the ship. That sounds like a really long flight...Hop many changes do you make? Flying west you should be gaining time, not losing...EM
Hmm will have to check but i could be wrong. Will be in Miami on friday at least haha. We have one stop in Vienna for about 2 or 3 hours and then a 10 hour flight to Miami.
