I feel worse for the family -- they have to live with how he died, and at this point, I have to believe this is the case.

Some say taking him on that trip was a questionable decision, but it's letting him be unattended for just a few moments that's what was inexcusable and ultimately at issue.  We share in the caretaking for my wife's parents who both have varying degrees of dementia, and would never think of letting one of them wander into a bathroom unescorted or monitored.  You never know if there's a second exit.

it's just short of two weeks without a confirmed sighting, and the island itself is 90% natural jungle.  It could take years to find his remains, if at all.

The guy was probably robbed, his watch and anything of value stolen and dumped somewhere.

  2. On the App Jonny Rockets shows an onboard dinning price of $9.95 + 18% gratuity. When you click menu you see various items priced between $1.99 for a side of fries, $7.99 for most burgers and then a mysterious line item of $11 labeled Adult.

Anyways do you pay a la carte or do you get a pre-fix for a set price or do you order as much as you want room service style?

What if they don’t process the request before my sailing? I get nothing or do they refund ?

Call up RCCL, ask them to email you a Cruise Vacation Receipt. Also clarify one more time while on the call if this is an OBC or a refund. I was after the final payment, my understanding of the policy was that I receive an on board credit. I talked to two different people and both state that I am getting a refund to my credit card.

When you get the Cruise Vacation Receipt you will see a line item for Total Charge and a line item for Amount Paid. In your case as was mine the Total Charge will now be LESS than the Amount Paid.

This is enough to demonstrate that you have a credit with them which you would expect to be offset (since you called and they said they are reimbursing you for the difference).

Now if they told you that you have a refund coming to you then you are done. Watch for your refund in the timeframe they promised (I got mine much quicker) and if you don't get it no problem, you have the Cruise Vacation Receipt that shows you are owed this.

On the other hand if they promise you an on board credit then check on day one of the cruise at the customer service desk to see if it has been applied. If not show them your Cruise Vacation Receipt so they can make that adjustment as you can't spend an on board credit if they haven't applied that credit to your account yet.

Having the Cruise Vacation Receipt handy will probably make you a lot more comfortable that you will either get your credit due to you or know that you have the proof in hand to make it happen at a later date.

    Enjoy your cruise.

  4. My suggestion if airfare is not involved just take the at home kit the 2 days before. If you test positive within 14 days of the cruise (including the day of) RCCL offers a 100% refund. So it would be a bummer but you get your money back and can rebook something else. Take a deep breath, its a pretty good policy and just be safe, you don't want to be on a cruise if you or anyone in your party may have Covid cause you don't want to be that person who ends up needing medical care that is unavailable at sea.

  5. Well some thoughts:

    • On the RCCL FAQ regarding testing it says: Without a negative pre-cruise test result, you will not be permitted to sail.

Maybe this suggests you get a negative you are good to go.

    • On the RCCL FAQ regarding positive test results prior to the cruise it says: 100% cruise fare refund for you, and your Travelling Party, if any of you tests positive for COVID-19 within 14 days prior to the cruise or at the boarding terminal.

Perhaps this suggests that they won't let you on the cruise with a positive test and are providing you with a refund at least so you can experience the fun in the future.

    • Do you really want to be on a cruise with Covid-19 even if you are not feeling the symptoms much?

For one you will come into contact with a lot of people in close quarters many of them with conditions that put them at an increased risk even fully vaccinated. You probably shouldn't look regardless but with a full refund at your disposal you really don't have a good reason to knowingly be putting others at an elevated risk.

That said the people most at risk will be those spending the most time close to you. So maybe you are fine, but that guest with you in that small cabin probably gets a sufficient viral load that maybe they get it too. Even if they are vaccinated they could get a break through case. And their case may not be as mild as yours and at sea you won't have the best care options available for them.

You get a 100% refund for you and them. If you get a positive (suspected false or not) present it to RCCL and book another cruise.

No matter your view on kid vaccines, RC really needs to update their stuff to acknowledge 5-11s that are fully vaccinated as such.

RCCL definitely does and probably will soon. Other than kids who participated in trials or got the vaccine off label the majority of the kids in the United States started receiving the vaccine no earlier than 11/4. Given the time between shots and then factoring in the extra 14 days from the second shot RCCL has a bit more than a month to get their info updated before fully vaccinated kids may start showing up to cruises.

  7. As a vaccinated traveler you technically have 3 days. The two days before the cruise and the day of the cruise. Definitely go with the rapid test options if you are concerned about time.

Kids get three days before the cruise to test and CANNOT receive their pre-cruise test on the day of the cruise. Then on cruise day they have to get another test.

It looks like based on the RCCL investor call that come Jan 16 the protocols may become voluntary for RCCL at which point some of the testing requirements may or may not be relaxed.

  8. If your child is fully vaccinated (14 days from the second shot before they board the boat) then I believe the vaccinated passenger rules apply to that age group.

In the FAQs etc it says unvaccinated children in terms of the provisions. So depending on the timing of the last shot and your departure you may be good.

As of January 16 it looks like RCCLs Covid 19 protocols will be voluntary (ie CDC and RCCL will come up with the protocols but will ultimately be up to RCCL) according to the latest stock meeting communication.

That of course doesn’t help for a Dec sailing for this year.

  9. Situation #1 You are by the pool. You order a bottled water. They deliver it to you and charge you $3.50 plus an 18% gratuity.

Situation #2 You walk over to buy a bottled water. You swipe your cruise card, they hand you a bottled water. You walk back to your spot. On the receipt its got an 18% gratuity added to it.

Regardless of it its the right or wrong thing to do so if you wanted to adjust down the tip on situation #2 transaction are you able to do so at the customer service desk?

  10. For those that have recently used RCCL's internet where they limit you to a certain number of devices.

I'm sailing on an upcoming RCCL cruise this month. I am considering the Voom Surf + Stream Internet package - 1 Device.

Is this one device at a time (i.e. I can use on my phone while walking around and then later sign out and sign into my iPad in my stateroom) or is it one device per cruise (i.e. If I sign in with my phone I am not permitted to later use my iPad if I want to surf the internet on a bigger screen while in my stateroom)?

We traveled in August with our unvaxxed 6 year old. The kids club was operating normally with some covid protocols. First there were only three sessions a day 9-12, 2-5, 7-10 then anything after 10 you paid for like normal. Now the big change is you are assigned 12 hours to start the week and need to pick your sessions. Once the hours are used and starting on Day 4 the limits went away but there were still capacity limits in the kids club so if you didn't reserve a time and last minute your kid wanted to go you could call and see if they had space. In the clubs kids had to be masked the whole time. Now that being said my daughter loved it like she always does and and was able to go whenever she wanted.

Sounds like your kid had a great experience. Do you feel like the kids club (signing the kiddos up) needs to be the first thing you do when you get on to try and get the slots given the limits?

  12. The numbers in the US appear to be getting better so you would hope that if there was a modification it would be less restrictive or the current procedures would be extended.

So for vaccinated adults it appears that the requirement is a test at least 2 days prior but also acceptable (but not advisable) on the date of sailing.

RCCL has their telehealth option which is $70-ish that you can take at home. There is also over the counter tests at places like Walgreens Antigen tests cost $49 and CVS has PCR which take a day or two for results and those can be a little less like $39.

Just depends on the level of specificity and convenience you would like but its not that expensive. Do look online as places like CVS and Walgreens etc... require some advance reservations or you may end up having to pony up for the more expensive tests at urgent care/testing facilities that can be around 3x as much.

  13. Has anyone sailed on RCCL recently where their under 12 kid(s) get a complimentary Rapid PCR test onsite?

There seem to be so many different types of PCR tests some of which are the fully evasive nostril swab where they get in there pretty good and do a couple of turns. And then there are others such as saliva tests and nasal tests where they go around the rim of the nose.

If you had your kid tested onsite as part of the requirement or saw the administration do you happen to know which test appears to be administered at the port for kids under 12?
