  1. I was not impressed on the ticketing by Viking. We had three flights in each direction, and a five hour plus layover on the way to Amsterdam. I was jealous of passengers that had direct flights or single stops with a far shorter total trip time. We paid extra for premium economy, but were not allowed to pick our seats on the United portion.

  2. Just got back from a Rhine River cruise on Viking. Ship was spotless, service excellent and food was some of the best we have ever had. What’s wrong? It was advertised (and priced) as a Christmas Market cruise. BUT, we were given very little time to actually see the markets.

Started in Amsterdam, no markets. Went to Cologne, markets were closed for a “silent” holiday. When we actually got to a market on day 3 it was in a small town. Cute and pleasing, but quite small.

Even when we got to a town with a market, our ship was as often far away from the markets and there was limited transportation into town. What ever happened to the “walk off the ship into town”? The time allowed for exploring towns (and shopping) was very limited. In the lovely town of Colmar we were given only one hour to walk around after our paid excursion was over.

Many other passengers also complained about the lack of access to markets. This was the primary selling point of these cruises. Why else would someone want to cruise when it is cold and wet?
