  1. I have 2 last names. (Not hyphenated, think of hispanic surnames.) I use my 1st surname on all cruise documents, which is on my birth certificate, but both names are on my ID. Never had a problem. In the US, it common to use your 1st surname only, even if you have 2.

A little bit different than your situation...but I don't think you will have an issue.

  2. When I went in to sign up our 16 year olds (boy & girl), the staff told me that every cruise is different. Two sailings prior, they were full and it was very active. The last sailing, there were barely any kids. On our cruise, the kids went the first day and it was dead. They did go by a few more times to play games and met a few people. My daughter made a friend and they hung out other places on the ship.

    Hope this helps.

  3. We plan each day, pretty much exactly the way you do OP. For us, it is more relaxing on the vacation to have it figured out. We have fun looking at everything we want to do and planning it out; sort of a way to "mentally vacation" before the actual cruise. We did this on our 1st cruise, but not on our 2nd or 3rd, and feel we missed quite a bit by puttering around and figuring out what we wanted. But, we will scrap the schedule for something else that suits our mood. One afternoon we took a nap. It was great.

  4. ...

On our last cruise (#4 for me), it was smooth sailing. For some reason, I experienced about a day and a half of seasickness. I couldn't believe it!

Sorry OP, in that long response I forgot to say I ate more bread and sipped my soda (sparkling lemonade). We had (OTC generic) Dramamine but I didn't take any.

  5. Seasickness is a sneaky little creature. Fiance and I were on Elation 11/15 and it was rough sailing the whole way. Half of the MDR was empty, cruisers were violently sick, and we had waves crashing against our porthole every night. Fiance had one bad evening, for a couple of hours. I admit, I kind of enjoyed it, (but I felt horrible for those who were sick, I just liked the physical "balace-board" experience).

  6. I was worried about crowding as well but I can tell you the only day that felt crowded was lunch on the first day. The reason for that is everyone heads up to lido to eat lunch and wait for their rooms to be ready. The rest of the time was minimal crowding and we were always able to find a chair. We hung out in serenity a lot. If you have the opportunity to eat at the steakhouse, DO IT! It was an absolutely amazing experience and the food was worth every bit of the $35/pp.

There are stations that you can exchange towels so you can always have a dry one. There is a clothes line in the shower that works for bathing suits.

There are shows at all times including late night comedy shows around 11:15 for the adults. There is a huge mix of things to do ranging from for the kids to some R rated for the adults.

Elegant night- My friends and I wore sundresses and collared shirts and khakis. Some dressed in gowns. I'd go with whatever it is that you normally wear for a nice family function.

I believe if you want a table to yourself in MDR you have to call prior to the cruise because it is limited.

You won't be lefts at a port unless you decide to go way of the beaten path and stay past the back on the ship time. We headed back to the ship about an hour before to beat some of the lines.

You will absolutely love it!!! I can't wait to hear your experiences and stories. You'll meet so many amazing people on board. Breathe and have fun!

Great advice! Just to add a little: I bring 2 swimsuits because I cringe when putting on a wet suit. It depends on how much time you spend in the water.

We had late dining for our last 3 cruises and just switched to ATD. We missed too many events with late dining. We have trouble staying up/out past 12 though...if that helps. I think bathrobes are hit or miss. We had them on one cruise, then didn't, on the same ship, same room booking, later. We never used them the first time, so didn't ask about it.

Also, I love the ship towels. I do bring our own for port days. I am the kind of person that leaves something behind on every cruise/port, and the charge for towels is a lot. (I hope there's a cruiser out there enjoying BOTH of our travel routers. 😁)

  7. To OP, I packed just about right on my 1st and 2nd cruise, then overpacked SHOES on my 3rd! Somehow, fiance and I forgot ALL of his shirts on #3. On #4, I vastly underpacked, and had to do laundry on a 5 day cruise. Hopefully I will get it right next week. It will be our longest cruise yet (7 d), so I'm somewhat overpacking. I tend to think, "I wish I brought --- with me," so overpacking is OK!

  8. LOL Brilliant response! :D:D

But I have to admit I hate lanyards too. Maybe it's because one on the colleges I teach at make the faculty wear one everywhere on campus.

Some of my shorts don't have pockets, so I can see the practicality of using a lanyard especially after the reaction the Lido deck waiter had when I fished my sea-pass card out of my crotch.

Yes, as a teacher, I wear one every day. ☺

  9. I WISH I could go without a purse around the ship! It would be liberating, unfortunately I have to carry medical stuff with me 100% of the time. But I still wear my seapass card rather than stick it in the purse to dig out whenever I need it. I'm a big fan of the zip-style clip lanyards that I just clip somewhere on my clothes.

Understandable. I occasionally carry a tiny one, for dinner or the casino, but a purse just for my S&S card is a bit much.

  10. Maybe this is a stupid question, but I'm a newbie and I'm going to ask anyway! ;p

What do you do with your Seapass card (on a lanyard or not) when you go in pools, hot tubs, etc? It's just going to be my son and I, and I'm not sure what exactly to do with things like that when we are planning to get wet. Do you leave them on a chair? That doesn't sound like the greatest of plans to me.

    Be gentle! Thanks!

We wear our lanyards in the water. Even the hot tub, ocean, etc. Our pouch is waterproof and also holds our phones, which we use to take photos throughout the day.

  11. You want to know what happens to her? I'll tell you. She ends up dating the city boy from Chicago who thumbs his nose at the law by blaring his rock & roll. Together, they go against her preacher daddy and the town council by corrupting the town's teenagers and talking them into dancing. Can you believe that? DANCING! Which is clearly against the law. Who do those kids think they are, acting like they have a foot loose or something. ;)

My fiance is laughing so hard he's choking. Best thing we've read in a long time! 😂

    😂 lol

I see what you did there.

For me, the worst jams on the Conquest Class ships (Conquest, Glory, Valor, Freedom and Liberty) are on deck 5 when people line up for the photographers. Lots of jostling, waiting, etc., to get from the Alchemy Bar to the casino or main theater in the front of the ship..

The way around this is to use the 4th deck walk through. I usually have late dining in the aft MDR, so I enter the lounge on the 4th deck, walk through the hallway on the right, and proceed to the 2nd staircase. That brings me up to the 5th floor mid ship elevators just outside the casino bar. (the 1st staircase brings one up to the Taste Bar area).

And of course, you can reverse the flow to get from the casino area to the aft comedy club, no problem!

Ok. It just needed time to upload. Here is a short clip of me trying to get my barrette back from the monkey lol.

And trying to trade a ball for the barrette:

He lost interest in the barrette and I was able to use my ipad to whack it down from the ledge (the barrette not the monkey).

  13. Has anyone ever brought on their allowable bottle of wine. Just wondering how closely the seal is inspected. Has anyone replaced the wine with alcohol and gotten away with it? Or caught? I have those sleeve and cap things that you stick under boiling water and it looks professionaly sealed. Just not sure about the screw part that separated. How closely do they look at the wine bottle? Can anyone tell me?

    Hi OP,

My experience has been that our wine sailed through every time without even being looked at. We both have a backpack-style cooler that contains our 12 sodas, removed from the box, with the one bottle of wine. I wrap the bottle in bubble wrap but leave the neck visible. We unzip them and say, "This contains our soda and wine," then put them on the belt.

A few suggestions; [edited to add-if you do reseal your wine] don't be that person who isn't prepared or has TOO MUCH stuff. We have everything out and ready; we use a porter for ALL of our luggage, and our carry-ons consist of the cooler bags and a small backpack with our cruise documents. Fumbling around and causing a delay will get you attention you don't want anyway. We pack anything else we bring in our luggage and have never had an issue. As long as it is plastic, not glass, you should be ok.
