  1. We used that service and it was very convenient. IIRC, our flight was around 2 PM, but we could have nade a 1PM flight, and we did not rush to get off the ship.

One caveat--although the ship will print your boarding pass, go to check-in and get a fresh one. Our passes were rejected at security, and we had to go back to check-in, get new passes, and then get in the security line again. We were told it happens "sometimes," whatever that means. We had plenty of time, so it was only an annoyance. But if anyone is tight on time it could be a problem.

I agree about the boarding passes. My husband's worked fine and mine did not. The same thing happened to the couple in front of us who were also from our ship.

  2. My husband and I are going on our first cruise ever - the 14 day Alaska Explorer on the Amsterdam, leaving August 28th. We had booked a large ocean view room, a triple for some extra space (hopefully). We just got an upgrade offer today that would allow us to upgrade to a Vista suite. We are debating on what to do. Our original room cost plus the upgrade is quite a bit lower from the current Vista prices.

How important is a balcony on an Alaskan cruise? I have read reviews that it is a must have while I have had others tell me that you don't use it as much as you would on other cruises because the weather isn't as nice.

Is there a possibility that we receive another upgrade offer if we don't use this one at an even better bargain?

    Thank you.

  3. My flight to see bears in Ketchikan was everything & more! I also enjoyed the AK Coastal Studies tour out of Homer. We got fogged out of Kodiak. That was my only disappointment.

Was your excursion fogged out of Kodiak or did you get fogged out of Kodiak all together? My husband and I are really looking forward to Kodiak.
