  1. I just booked an Alaskan cruise with my PCC. She said the Military and AARP discounts are not available. But if I go on NCL and do a mock cruise reservation on line it is still showing. Does this mean it is or isn't? Has anyone booked recently and got the discounts? Just wondering.

Thanks in advance, CC always answers the want to know questions.:)

  2. We arrived at the NYC pier 88 around 10:10am. A porter quickly took our bags and we went right to security and breezed right through. There were only a few people ahead of us in the check in line. Within 5 minutes we were checked in, key cards in hand. And yes, the Soda stickers, Ultimate Beverage Package stickers, and Ultimate Beverage Package Stickers were already on them.

We had purchased a lot of onboard credit so we didn't have to put a credit card on file. Or so we thought. (I'll explain shortly)

We sat and waited, chatting with other guests. I had brought a hole puncher with me, so I punched holes I'm our key cards and put them on lanyards. Some other guests saw this and I happily punched holes in their cards as well. I even had extra lanyards with me so I gave out a few of those as well.

We boarded the ship around 11:30 in boarding group 5 and went down to Guest Services. Yep. Vibe baby!!

After getting our Vibe passes and pink wristbands, we dropped our carry on bags in our friends room. Our room wasn't ready yet, but our friends were on a back to back so theirs was. They suggested we go to the Main Dining Room Taste for lunch. This would be the only time we go there but it was delicious. I don't have pictures, but we had the Scallops Gratin (prepared like Escargot), Calamari, hubby had a burger, kiddo had chicken fingers and fries, and I had a salad.

After lunch we got our first drinks. I had a Bloody Mary which was the best I've ever had. They use the mixer Zing Zhang (I found it at Walmart last week and it brings me back to the ship ;) )

Then we heard the announcement that our room was ready, so we got our bags from our friends room and went to ours. We were in 8130, an M6, mini-suite with a large balcony. Oh My Goodness. The balcony is incredible!

More to come shortly. I'm uploading more pictures.

Can you explain what the Vibe passes are? Thanks:p

  3. Thinking of going to the Chelsea Market the day before our cruise, and just wondering if anyone is familiar with the area. We are looking at the Holiday Inn that is in Chelsea, not sure if that is a good idea or not. Would appreciate any advise from others that know the area. Thanks in advance.

Also, is that area close to ground zero?

  4. HI LaGuardia is located in the Corona section (neighborhood) of Queens county (borough) with a population of 2.3 million people, situated basically off the service road of the Grand Central Parkway, about 10 minutes from the airport via local streets, and about 5 or 6 city blocks to tne nearest subway station - the No.7 train a/k/a "Orient Express" Corona has a sizable Latino population of hard working folks and is mostly safe around the area during the day, and quiet at night - the area is mostly residential & the Holiday Inn is the only hotel within the immediate vicinity.

The hotel has its own indoor & underground parking so it should be relatively safe, leave all valuables out of sight & locked it up. (Google Map & Street View to see for yourself) There isn't much, if anything, in that area even walking toward the subway - except for a few local deli stores & coffee shop, laundrymat and a # of car repair shops. Forget about dinner or fast food nearby - pizza & cold cut sandwiches would be fine or Chinese takeout delivery, so better eat elsewhere first or on your way into Manhattan to sightsee. Not so sure about a fine Italian place but definitely plenty of good Latino food specials, IMO.

It's perfectly safe to walk at night in many section of Queens, including Flushing's Main Street in & around the No.7 subway & LIRR train station, plenty of (Asian) restaurants open late, some as late as 2 AM. The McD & Burger King is open 24/7 with window service. The area around the HI LaGuardia should be the same as walking around late in Long Island City, Astoria or Woodside - use your urban street-wise common sense, just like most cities in the US and most ports frequented by cruisers.

FYI - parking at the MCT http://www.nycruise.com/manhattan-terminal/parking/ And, for car service - Flyertalk & CC's here prefer Dial7 and Carmel, both reliable & reasonable rates with large fleet of cars & minivans citywide, and, one of their garage/base is near LGA. Well ... it's your money to spend, of course.

Wow, thank you so much for your help, you certainly know NYC. I appreciate your information....:D

  5. I've been living in NYC for 25 years and have never heard of them. We've only ever used Carmel or Dial 7. Used to use Four 1's, but not in a while.

Is Dial 7 a good service? I believe that is one that would come to the Holiday Inn Laguadia to pick us up as well.

Being from the area for 25 years maybe you could telll me, is the area where this hotel is located a safe place to leave our car for 12 days? The hotel is offering free parking for 7 days and we pay for the 5 remaining days. Lots less than the port parking.

    Thanks

  6. Thanks for the wine luncheon lunch menu. Actually it looks intriguing. Nice wines, too. Wonder if they'd just give me three tastings of prosecco instead of the reds! Was the Cajun shrimp very spicy???

Sorry about the skunked doggie...yuck! We had our own sewer backup last month. Yuck again.

I have gone back a couple of times and I can not find the attachment with the lunch menu. Could you please post it for me. Thanks so much
