  1. I love the fact that there's an ongoing thread about the Azure Seas and that people have good memories. I took the regular trumpet player's place on the ship for 6 weeks in the summer of 1983 while he and his bride got married and had an extended honeymoon. From what I understand, she worked in the gift shop and they met on the ship. Our bass player also met his wife on the ship - she worked in the casino. The band director had his own room and the rest of us had 2 to a room. We had a private dining room separated by a wall from the main dining room, and we had the same menu as the guests - but we didn't need to dress up for dinner. Room and board were free to us in addition to our salaries. Various performers would come and go from week to week so we'd rehearse in the afternoon then perform at night - twice because there was 1st seating and 2nd seating at meals. The main show would be in the front of the ship. We also did the Captain's Cocktail Party and a late show in the back of the ship. Wednesdays were our day off (always in Ensenada) and most of us developed friendships with the locals in Ensenada. I have wonderful memories of my time on the ship, as do the other musicians. Some of them still get together for reunions (in LA) every few years.
