Cruisin Wannabe

Can I ask which Scenic Vietnam cruise you did? Which month? We are considering one there and it seems there are several options in length. Just curious what part of the itinerary you think is a must and which you would have passed on. Did you extend trip on either end? Any advice appreciated as we plan.

Given all the conflicting views, though mostly booze related, I am eager to see how our Scenic cruise goes. They have already informed us of a boat change - 3 weeks prior to leaving - though did not imply it was due to water levels. We were bummed as they had to downgrade our room moving from the Jasper to the Ruby since our room level was not available. Hopefully no other bummers in making this ship change. r

The crew was amazing and fun, but beyond that I found the food and alcohol to be sub-standard.  The itinerary often minimized port time (to be fair, it was a scrum getting down the rivers, waaaaay too many ships these days.  The experience has certainly changed) and while some of the guides were good, many were not.

 

We really ended up disliking the food and ate offship as much as we could.

Can I ask what Scenic ship you were on and where you went?

Hi Diane, just wondering if you have heard anything. We are scheduled to be on the Jasper leaving Amsterdam on Oct 16th but they just emailed us we were being put on the Ruby instead. We are a little bummed because we had a better room on what seems to be a newer ship. They made no mention of water levels being the reason. Have you sailed the Ruby before? 

No, Jasper is the boat name.

We are looking to book a last minute Jasper River Cruise on Scenic next month on the Rhine. Agent is offering a pretty good deal but when we went to Scenic's site to find the cruise it doesn't exist? Has anyone experienced that? There are still rooms available but we found it rather odd. It's from Amsterdam to Nuremberg. They offer the reverse direction on their site but not the North to South direction. Should we be concerned? Know very little about this company but people seem to praise it.

Any advice appreciated.

Yes - can you exchange dollars for euros on the ship. Trying to figure out how many euros to bring from home as I know we have to pay the driver who is picking us up in Budapest in euros but trying to figure out the rest. Assuming the Xmas market vendors prefer cash...

Thank you so much for these detailed posts. Just wondering if you heard about the Budapest tour the day you stayed on the boat. We will have a few days in Budapest before boarding and just wondering if they were on a bus all day or got off to do sites? We like the idea of staying on the boat to watch the sites go by...

also did you bring euros with you - if so - how much ? Do they exchange $ on the boat?
