Assuming you are not going to share the package, as you are not supposed to, the bigger issue here is that you should still book one adult with one minor in each cabin, because then your wife will not be committed to get any kind of package if you do decide to get the alcohol one for yourself.  That economy of control seems to have been lost in all the discussion about sharing packages.

That was my plan just in case. Not for the drink package, but in general. We usually don't do the package (outside soft drinks) and I'm happy with water, tea, etc.... The alcohol aspect is a plus.

Also, we got addicted to the good Jura (or similar machine) coffee in the Viking club on a few cruises.... so good coffee is a plus. 😂

My thought off the bat regarding what the "detractors" are as far as the inconvenience to you goes... you can't sit at the bar and relax with your drinks, enjoying the band or conversation with your neighbors or whatever else you'd be doing at the time. You'd have to keep excusing yourself, going to another bar, getting a drink and bringing it back to the bar you were originally hanging out in. This just seems like way more hassle than it's worth to save the $30 cost of 2 glasses of wine.

On top of that, the bartender at the bar you're hanging out in is going to notice what you're doing because you'll keep leaving to get a drink from a different bar and bringing it back, and handing it to your wife.

It seems like a lot less hassle to just bring on your 2 free bottles of wine (or in your case, since you're in different rooms, you can bring 4 bottles of wine) and let her fill up her own wine glass and drink that.

Or, since she drinks so little, just pay out of pocket. Otherwise you're gonna be doing this secret-bar-shuffle game everyday just to save $200.

Yeah, it's most likely an all or nothing as my wife and I discussed. It just depends on the cost.

Yes you can - next door to or directly across the hall from the adults.

I have seen people cut off for the night for sharing, and when they continued to try and share the next day their package was then cancelled. So yes they will notice and will do something

Hmmm. We did it on Carnival and they didn't let us. I prefer to do whichever works best but thanks, try it.

Oh, and I just wanted opinions on the package, not the nth degree. I've spent more than my fair share on alcohol over the years! 😂

I'm not sure the cost yet, but we will see. We are waffling between this RCCL and an NCL (never done it)

Keep your wife and yourself in the same room.  CALL and say your wife doesn't drink and would like (insert other drink package here).  That will be allowed.  Do NOT "share" your package with your wife.

I can't. You can't have 2 minors in the same room. There are 4 of us, 2 adults and 2 kids.

Anyhow, you guys missed the point. I understand that you should have both of us on our own package. That's not the point. We aren't new to cruising.

I wanted more thoughts on if this would work, and what the detractors are.

We may do two, we may not. We've been on different lines, so no Diamond for us yet.

  5. We are looking at Mariner in August and we are getting two interior rooms, 1 for our kids and 1 with my wife and I.

That said, we are going to do one of us and a kid in each room since they are only 9 and 12.

My wife or I could technically just get one drink package. How often can you get a drink? Worth it to "split" it?

After cruising 15 plus times in different lines we haven't ever gotten the package.

  6. We went on RCCL Vision of the Seas on May 2nd from Barcelona.

I so loved that city. Probably my favorite overall. Great photos so far.

Our first night in Barcelona we ate at Recasens, a 110 year old restaurant right near where we were staying in Poblenou. Loved the Rambla there - less crowded and better food and prices.

    Sigh. Can I move?

  7. If you watched the video on the television in your room of the cruise director talking to the captain about the change, you know why they didn't choose a different port. They explained that the ship could have made Falmouth, but, because of how long it would take to get back, the call would have been for only a few hours. Other ships were already at Labadee, and its infrastructure can handle only so many people, so that wasn't an option, either.

I missed that part. I didn't see the explanation of Falmouth. Though, given other itineraries and the ability of 30 plus hours, the logistics don't quite jive.

More so, it's a call from corporate, not the captain on where they go.

You have to consider that other ships, including ships from other cruise lines, had already been rerouted because of hurricane damage. There are only so many ships and passengers that a port can handle. Oasis Class ships can't tender in passengers, so it had to be a port where an actual berth was available. Logistically, no other port would work.

I certainly thought about the extra traffic out there, but the lack of tendering was something I wasn't aware of. Interesting.

Just be glad there happened to be an open berth at Nassau; otherwise, it would have been another day at sea. When you consider that Allure of the Seas, along with Carnival Liberty, MSC Divina, and Silversea Explorer, dumped over 13,000 people in Nassau that day, all involved did a great job.

Meh, myself and the kids didn't get off the ship. One thing that my wife (who is a TA) mentioned was that as we know RCCL wasn't giving any compensation for changed itineraries, etc, Carnival was.

Personally, I liked the ship, and I enjoyed it. Hopefully our Mediterranean cruise in May goes smoother (Vision of the Seas)

Oh, and kudos for 51 cruises! I think we are up to 14 or so now. How do you not get burned out overall?

  8. We also are highly irritated about the full western change with no OBC to compensate for a cheaper Western itinerary.

Now, hear me out: We chose this itinerary for St. Thomas and St. Kitts. The St. Kitts change was NOT due to weather function, but to what I understand is a ship issue (can't get there fast enough). If this was going to be an issue we would have booked a different cruise on an Oasis class ship.

Now, the hurricane issues are unexpected, and I know that happens. Has anyone else had luck getting OBC for these issues?

  9. Not to hijack your thread, but OP and others do you find that the dining plan is worth it? We will be on the Allure on 10/1 and are debating the ultimate or per night plan, or just sticking with the MDR.

We are long time cruisers and this is the first time in a mega-ship. We are always MDR folks and the food is usually very good. Thoughts, suggestions? Seeing ones like $50 for Chops is rather ridiculous to me, that's a bit pricey.
