  1. Everyone seems to miss the point. 15 drinks a day times, 5, 7, 10 or more days = a problem, either needing meetings or medical attention. I don't care if someone drinks 50 drinks a day, just don't be around me acting stupid, as booze wouldnt be an excuse for me not to set you straight. As far as not paying as you go, it is a sail and sign card, and you sign each time if you have cheers or not. Silly booze people never think. I will no longer comment, as you boozers have a pact like the smokers, but you boozers are not nearly as bad as them. I never had a problem on a cruise with drinkers. On my last cruise I hung out with many new friends that had the cheers program, and they were the most wonderful people that I have ever met on a cruise. Being an alcoholic doesn't make you bad, knowing that you don't have a problem makes it bad on yourself and family.

  2. It quickly becomes my business when people become intoxicated and act obnoxious, and I don't just mean on a cruise. Anywhere there is that much drinking, not much good comes from it. So many excuses are made for people being intoxicated. Go back to church and preach to someone who will listen.

  3. I have had balconies where I have smelled some smoke a few times during a cruise, and I have had balconies where I have smelled none at all. Honestly, there is no way to predict what you may smell, but I've found that asking the smoking party (if they are adjacent to my cabin) if they are aware that they can be fined for smoking on a balcony usually puts an end to it.

    You must encounter courteous smokers.

  4. Carnival management should be ashamed of their offer of a 25% discount for a future cruise after allowing this disruption to go on for days and not immediately heading toward land to turn these hooligans over to authorities. Accounts from several passengers said they were afraid to leave their cabins which indicates they did not get the services that they had paid for. Therefore, 25% refund of their current fare for what will likely be applied toward the FULL PRICE for a future cruise is insulting.

For those of you who love Carnival, keep going on their cruises.

For the rest of us, we will abstain and give you lots more room on the ship, You all will likely not miss us so have fun on the FUN SHIPS

It sounds to me that the cruisers on this ship endured this nonsense for more than 25% of their trip.

  5. The security staff appears out numbered in this case. I doubt any cruise line has the on board security staff to deal with 20+ thugs. Most ship’s staff security to deal with the occasional confrontation between one or two passengers. You can staff ships with a large squad of well trained security guards on every ship, but it will be reflected in your cruise fare. You would also have to resigned ships with larger detention facilities.

I have been on many cruises, and never seen anything like this incident. It is a cost benefit decision. Are passengers willing to pay more for a large security presence that is needed one out of a thousand cruises, or is current security staffing sufficient in most instances? Many passengers might answer they want ample security and no fare increase. However, the world does not work that way. I am fine with current security arrangements on cruise lines. This incident is clearly an abboration, and should not be the basis for setting security protocol on all future sailings

    One word, DEPUTIZE.

  6. Hard to believe there are no responses from people who were actually on this cruise.

I believe the security did a good job, mainly because one of those thugs had a headlock on a security guard. I see nothing wrong with helping a fellow officer. If these were real cops and had guns, who knows what would of happened. They do everything possible to help a fellow officer in distress.

You call that help? OH MY!

  7. The family that was removed from the ship behaved like thugs. They were so violent and threatening to other passengers that security locked a few of these thugs inside their rooms to contain them. Reports in the media describe an very unsafe and tense atmosphere onboard for passengers and crew.

Yet oddly most of the comments posted have been about the security team's behavior as they tried to break up the violence. I agree that the crew member who attempted to take away someone's camera was wrong to do so. Other than that, security did the job they are hired to do. If you don't like how it was handled, let them know the next time one of them helps you on your cruise.

I only needed security one time on a cruise and that was to remove a smoker in a non smoking lounge. Never again, as the security guy wouldn't do his job. Smoking in a carpeted lounge with no ash trays with several butts on the floor was ridiculous.

  8. I have a question for those appalled by the kicking....

If you were the one trapped in a headlock by a person already know to security as a violent person - what would you expect them to do after trying to pull the guy off you?

    Just curious

You and many others don't know, this is why they need to be trained to handle these situations and not to monitor them.

  9. lets hope all cruiselines in Australia have got the names of these people who caused this mayhem and ban them from all cruises. Maybe they should have been taken off the ship earlier. Bit disappointing reading comments about the security staff. Easy to say how bad they were but put yourself in their position.

I would never put myself in that position by being part of security if I was clueless.

  10. The behavior by “security” and other ship staff is disturbing. They certainly haven’t been trained to de-escalate a volatile situation. Curious to see CCL’s response to this, if any.

The security had no clue how to handle the situation. Call me Carnival and I could train your staff.

  11. Really need to find out root cause of what caused all this. I have seen people really out of control that act like complete idiots. I'm not saying the staff has the right to kick someone when they are down but sometimes people, whether passenger or not, need a good kicking. I'm pretty sure if he would of calmed down it would not of escalated to this level.

Alcohol and most of the times it is the large groups that cruise together, as they think they own the ship.

  12. Oh so true and then someone comes along to remind us how hard the crew work. Most also mention the crew come from third world nations with families to support. Next thing you know someone will comment that Carnival should include their true labor costs in the price of the cruise fare as they do in the Australian market and be done with the issue of gratuities.

Agreed! It does get old. If you have bad service, you simply remove the tips. Nobody will tell me how I should spend my money. Tips are for good service and need to be earned, not expected! My last cruise I was told that if I didn't want to leave tips, I had to wait until the second to last day, until they were charged to my account, and then I could remove them. Cash is always better than a check. 😉
