  1. I have a foldup 2 wheel cart to tote my carry ons. I like to use a briefcase for the ship required documents and also all my meds and little items that I may need before the suitcases get delivered. Don't forget a little LED flashlight, very small and batteries last a long time. As far as clothes, keep it to a minimum. For the ladies just mix and match. Chances are you won't see the same people twice anyway and even if you do they won't remember what you wore the last time. For the men one pair of shoes and something to wear to the beach. 3 pair of slacks or dungarees and 4 shirts. Of course ample underwear. Pajamas for men (nada)!!! 2 swimsuits for each of you, one to wear the other to dry.

Main thing is keep it light. We went to Germany for a week with 2 carryons as we were flying standby we didn't want to check any bags.

The primary objective is to have a good time and don't worry about what the others think.

  2. DW and myself had an interesting experience on the Destiny on our 1st cruise out of San Juan. We were waiting at one of the elevators and one of the ships officers came by. We struck up a conversation with him and learned that he was the Corporate Hotel Director, the number 2 man in the Carnival Corporation just under the President. He was in charge of EVERYTHING on the ship except to steer it and make it move. He was also responsible for every ship that Carnival built, from laying of the keel to launch. He was on the Destiny filling in for the normal Ship Hotel Director while he was on vacation.

Anyway as we were standing there visiting with him about the ship and Carnival and my DW let a cola slip out of her hand and it hit the deck. That drink had not sooner hit the floor and a steward was there wiping it up. I don't know if there was a steward following him around or just happened to be there at that instant but it was cleaned up just as fast.

I wish I knew his name and I think he was about to retire. He said he had started with Carnival the 2nd week they were in business and worked his way up from flunky to Executive VP. I believe at the time he had about 35 years with the company (or however long they had been in business). That was in April of 05. A very cordial man to talk to and didn't have an air of importance about him, just one of the crew.

  3. A simple door sign for Cruise Critics is here:

    www.cruisecritic.com/doorsign.pdf

You can fill in the blank and put your screen (ID) name on the sign.

Next, the doors are not magnetic, they are made of metal and magnets will stick to them since they are not stainless steel. You can purchase magnetic sheets for your local office supply or hobby supply and print whatever you want to say on them. Get the one that is 8 1/2 x 11 size, there are other sizes available also but the 8 1/2 x 11 works fine in your printer.

If you don't want to use magnetic sheets you can use plain paper and take along a bunch of frig magnets to hold it on the door.

As long as you don't destroy the paint finish on the door they probably won't say anyting to you but if you scratch the paint or put tape on there that is hard to get off you may get a bill for the repair.

  4. We had Lionel (Leonell) 5 years ago for our driver so he will know his job very well. We (4 of us) rented a car w/driver at that time was $100 for the day. Lionel asked where we wanted to go or do. We told him to just show us the sights of the Island. We went to the Iguana farm, he described the different features like the ship wreck and the governors house. We then went to West End beach area and where most of the shops are. We don't swim or snorkel so DW checked out the shops. At lunch he asked where or what we would want to eat. We again told him to take us to HIS favorite food establishment and he sat with us and we paid for his lunch also. He was an excellent guide and showed us a great time. I would ask for him again.
