  1. We just went thru this with my BIL last month on the Getaway. He walks with a cane. We called ahead of time to have him put on special needs list as we didnt think he could stand for a very long time. After traveling thru Miami Airport we realized we needed something more than the cane for the cruise. We took uber to terminal and was dropped off right where the luggage is handed in. Walked across the road and was maybe 5 minutes til we entered the bldg to go theu security. As soon as they saw the cane they had us go thru special line where we didnt have to wait at all. After security we walked a small hall where we were met by the special needs employee who had him take a seat to fill out paperwork. We asked about a scooter and they were able to provide us with one but we should have called ahead of time as we got lucky they had an extra one. There is a special checkin line and when it was our turn we got up and went to checkin, afterwards we could sit back down and wait for scooter. Once we were shown how to operate we were led thru special door to ramp to board ship. SOOOO EASY and not much standing. I was impressed! We are so glad we got the scooter over a wheelchair. He could venture anywhere he wanted to go without having someone push him. At dinner we would leave scooter outside and walk to table (as well as shows etc). We had regular balcony cabins and he was able to get it in his room to charge it but it was tight! Getting off the ship was a breeze too as you met in special area and were escorted off ship. No waiting in those long lines to punch out.

We are scheduled to be on the getaway on the 25th of this month. My husband has pretty bad knee issues so I figured it might be good to go ahead and rent him a scooter. I reserved one a couple months ago. However, it just dawned on my tonight that we are in a regular mini suite not an accessible one. You say that you were able to fit the scooter through the doorway in a regular balcony cabin right? I'm getting a bit worried!!

  2. Just got home from cruise that stopped in Costa Maya and on basis of this board booked a day at ALmapenya since Maya Chan was booked. None of the people who recommended this mentioned the disgusting and unsanitary bathroom facilities on the beach. They have a sign that toilet paper is not to be flushed down the toilet but deposited in an open waste basket. I thought it smelled when I first got there but by the time I left I had to mouth breathe or I may have vomited. This may be fine for some and I undeestand the "eco friendly" intent but to me this is just too much and should have been disclosed by someone. If you want to provide a receptacle rather than flush paper that is your choice but the container should be covered, emptied frequently and some type of odor prevention should be used. Totally disgusting and if I had known I would never have gone. Will never go back or recommend this place

Just an FYI I've never been to a place in Mexico where they allowed you to flush any type of paper in the toilets.

  3. Hmmm, hadn't heard that either, and definitely wasn't our experience just last month. If true, their FAQ hasn't caught up to yet: https://www.ncl.com/it/en/faq#babysitters

Where did you hear that at?

They have contradicting info on their website. So I called to ask and the guy said that it's true that it has gone to a flat right. Which quite frankly really pisses me off. Especially since I was only planning on having them in there until 11 or midnight. Seems crazy to have to pay $44 for just an hour. I read on another post that someone had suggested printing off both prices from the website and trying to argue it with guest services.

  4. Yes, after about 10 PM they wind down and put movies on. Our 4 year old sometimes falls asleep. We usually pick them up between 11 and 12, I think the latest we've gotten them is 1. By midnight there's usually a small handful of kids left at the most.

Awesome! Thanks! So I just learned that apparently NCL has changed the rates from 6/ hour for the 1st child and $4/ for 2nd to $24 flat rate per night for 1st child and $20 for 2nd. Really upsetting especially since I was only planning on keeping the in there and hour or so a couple nights.

  5. My son was older when he's been in the club (7 and then 11), so I wasn't answering that part. At his age, I know he watched movies and played video games most the times. Sometimes there were other kids there, and once he was all alone. (He couldn't care less either way.) It really depends on the ship and what is going on. When we were on Spirit, there is very little to do late night, so not many people need to have their kids in the club. However, on the big ships, the clubs are busier late night, because lots of things are still going on at those hours. So it just depends. (sorry, I know that's not much help.)

Thank you and yes that does help! We are going on the getaway but going in February( trying to skip out on all the spring breakers!).

  6. Late-night they generally combine the two youngest groups unless they have a ton of kids (like during Spring Break, holidays, summer). Our 4 year old is never the youngest and our 7 year old is never the oldest.

Good to know. Do they give the children an option to watch a movie and fall asleep? What time did you usually check the kids out?

  7. What ages are the kids that attend the kids late night zone? I have 5 year old twins and I would like for them to go a couple nights during our cruise but I don't want them to be the youngest ones in there. Any one have any experience with the 10:30-1:30am late night kids zone? If so, do they watch movies and let the kids fall asleep or what?
