  1. Does anyone know of any cruise line that will let you search for a cruise leaving on a specific date rather than just by the month?  We just returned from one last week with the kids and are ready for another adults only cruise.  We already have our vacation dates picked with our jobs, so rather than go through each cruise line, click on May and search each itinerary for the dates, it would be much easier to just search for cruises leaving May 26th.  Thanks!

  2. My wife and are are looking to take a (somewhat) spur of the moment cruise. We usually cruise in the off season with Carnival and I was quite shocked at the price difference during the summer months.

I took a few minutes to shop around and found that Celebrity was pretty much on par with the others, but offered several perks that would pretty much make up for the high prices.

We will be travelling with 2 children (6&11). Are Celebrity cruises family friendly? What types of activities are available for kids? Are there any significant differences between Celebrity and Carnival that would come as a not so pleasant surprise?

Thanks for any tips or info you can provide!!

  3. ************************UPDATE*****************************************

She was allowed to board as of about 30 minutes ago.

To those who were quick to judge, this person is a mother of 5 who just put herself through nurse practitioner school while working full time as a RN in an extremely busy emergency department. This was her graduation present to herself after many years of school. Those calling her "unreliable" and "oblivious", were totally unnecessary.

To those who offered constructive advice; thank you. She took that advice, and was allowed to board.

After booking her cruise, she assumed that her birth certificate (we all know what they say about assuming, so spare me) would be in a lock box with all of her other important documents. When she went to retrieve them last night, she found that it was not there. That set off a chain of events that led to her scrambling around collecting any document that might possibly allow her to set sail on her first, and long awaited cruise. With help from many of those here on this forum, it all worked out. Needless to say, this will be a mistake that will not be repeated. Thanks everyone!

  4. I have a friend who just called me. She is supposed to set sail tomorrow with Carnival. As of now, she is unable to find her birth certificate and does not have a passport. She also neglected to purchase cruise insurance.

As of today, she only has an US Dept. of State affidavit of birth that she (along with her mother) have signed and had notarized.

What are her options? This is her first cruise, and I would hate for her to miss it (and not receive a refund).

    Thanks for any suggestions!!

  5. First of all, over the years (and a couple different user names), ya'll have been a great wealth of information and I thank you for that. I can always count on Cruise Critic members to have the answers to those unique situations that may arise. So, on to the questions! :-)

I booked my 6th cruise a few weeks ago. Tonight, I saw that the price dropped, so I called and was able to get the difference in OBC. When they sent me the confirmation email, I noticed that although my VIFP level is gold, it is showing my wife as red. We have always cruised together, so we should have the same number of points. I have also always done the booking under my name/email, so I do not know how to check her points, or request a missing cruise. Any suggestions?

Secondly, this cruise is going to be a Christmas gift for my kids (6 & 11). Since we don't leave until February, does anyone have any neat ideas of what I can wrap and put under the tree to tell them they are going cruising? I don't think my little one would be very impressed if I just put a boarding pass in his stocking! Lol.

    Thanks everyone!

  6. Has anyone used 3rd party shore excursion sites, such as shoreexcursioneer.com? We generally just disembark at whatever port and walk/catch a taxi until we find something interesting. This time we are bringing the kiddos (6 & 11), so I want to have a plan, but the excursions listed on Carnival's website seem to be somewhat lacking, especially for Progresso. Thanks!
