  1. We just boarded on Sunday and the lines to get on took almost an hour and a half to get in to the building before we get to security. Then another 30-45 minutes once inside to get through the security line and luckily, we were green lane, cause the blue lane was probably another good hour to two before even getting their medallions and on the ship. Once we got past security and walked past all the blue lane people, the green lane took maybe 10 minutes before we were walking the 10 minute maze to get on the ship… I’m worried about what disembarkation is going to look like next Sunday. We were told that they were NOT using the facial recognition due to there being fake passports on previous cruise… I don’t know how true that is… they also, from what I heard, locked the doors at 2:30 and if you weren’t already in line and inside the building, they wouldn’t let you in… we ended up leaving an hour late…

the internet did not work at all the first night once we got out in to international waters. I went and spoke with guest services and they said that there was some kind of block on the internet and they had to restart to router and everyone should be getting internet in the next 20-40 minutes (that was around 9 pm…) I still didn’t have internet when I went to bed around 11:30. But, the next morning I did … also, without connecting to the medallion net network, I was unable to load the app to even see what was going on and where. Couldn’t order a drink… nothing …

they are working out some other kinks. I have seen posts of people saying that they would order on the app an 2 hours later they still didn’t have their food or drink. ..

I sure hope it gets better as time goes on!!

I needed one for my mother as well, and our travel agent ordered it and it’s on our paperwork.  At the Seattle terminal there’s a special drop off point for mobility assistance passengers, there may be something like that in SF as well.

Yes. I know we can order one to have the whole cruise, however, it’s only needed for boarding and debarking, as they can walk a little ways. Just need help to get up the ramp and on to the ship!!! I know in Long Beach, you can get some of the workers to help on Carnival, I just wanted to make sure that was the case in San Fran on Princess!!!

  3. We are going out of San Francisco in October… does anyone know how to obtain a wheelchair for embarkation while going through the lines and up the ramp? It won’t be needed while onboard but during embarkation and debarkation, it would be helpful…

  4. Looking at booking through the cruise line on American Airlines, but I have heard from a few people now that it's not very credible and may be late? Does anyone have any recent experience.

I'm looking at doing an overnight flight from Sacramento to Miami and getting in the morning of the cruise... If I was flying in the day before, I wouldn't worry so much... But, now I'm a little worried..

Thanks in advance for any advice anyone has! :)

  5. I click on the link from the email. It says sale rate applied. I filter for the cruise I want and set it to 4 people. It shows balcony being $673 per person. I click through and bam, now its $5000. What am I missing here??

This is the same type of info I’m getting. It says lowest price for the cruise I’m looking at is $425 then when j click on it it goes up to $646 being the lowest. I even called and the lady on the other end said that she didn’t see what I was seeing. But, I wasn’t really seeing it either.... I’m hoping maybe the links will be fixed tomorrow? I’m gonna keep checking :/

We've done the drive in and parked for the last two cruises, and we'll do it for the one in April.  We travel with two pre-teens and we all have scuba gear, so my husband usually drops all of us off with our luggage and then goes over to the parking garage to park.  We always park at the garage across the street and have never had any problems.

    Thanks,

I think we have just decided to go ahead and also park across the street at the garage. It looks to be as safe and secure as it can be...

As a born & raised local the above parking lot I provided the link to is about as good as it gets.   San Francisco is #1 or #2 in auto break-ins. In California unless the stolen property is $950 or more AND you can prove your car doors were locked at the time of the break-in it's considered a misdemeanor.  In San Francisco it's considered a "quality of life" incident, not a crime, the police will take your report for your insurance claim, but that's it as the District Attorney will not prosecute.  😐

A while back there was a news reporter and her photographer that saw a break-in progress.  Got clear photos of the perp and the get away car; the police was staking out the area and made the arrest a short time later.  The DA dropped the charges as there was no proof the doors where locked and the tourists couldn't come back from China for the preliminary hearing.

The only other ways is to park at one of the nearby Fisherman's Wharf hotels that have Valet underground parking that only the valets have access to, but that could run you $40-$60 a day.  OR park out at one of the airport lots and Uber/taxi in.

The advice the police gives is not to leave ANYTHING visible in the passenger compartment of the car, especially with out of state plates: no phone cords, no bags, no box of tissues, no coffee cups, no glasses case, no bobbleheads,...nuthin but air.

Otherwise leave your worries to "the guy upstairs" and have a safe trip.😎

Very good!! Thank you. This is exactly the types of things I am looking for. We are from northern Cali so we won’t have out of state license plates. BUT knowing to not leave anything in sight is very good information.

Do you know if it’s an option then to park at the ferry terminals for multiple days and ferry into the pier? I wonder if that is any safer tho ....

I have a few months. I will do some more research but will be very cautious if we do decide to park in the lot across from the pier...

    Thank you for this information...

on a side note.... you stated to possibly park at the airport and Uber in.... is that safer? I mean, I get it, nothing is totally safe and no one will know when/if anything is going to happen. But, I do want to minimize coming back to a broken in to car!!!

  8. Yes.. I have searched a few and have some in mind, but can’t book them for 2 months out. I was hoping that someone has had recent experience to make sure they were safe and security was good. (We recently had a very bad experience in Houston and now I’m gun shy to book places that I don’t know and/or can’t find a decent review section on.). Thanks for all the help you all have provided.

  9. We will be driving in to San Fran for a carnival Miracle departure in April... does anyone have a good, safe, secure place they have parked their car at...

I’m also wondering about driving up to port and dropping luggage and people since my dad is handicap and won’t be able to walk too far, for long periods of time.. I assume this is an easy process to drive in and drop off and out of.. then the others can park and walk in...

Thanks in advance for any advice. We usually leave from Long Beach and know the ins and outs of that pier, but this one is new to us!!

  10. I tried searching the boards before asking.... but do you notice if the pricing for the cheers package changes? My friends 4 day cruise in October seems to be holding steady at $51.95/day and I know that it’s non refundable so we don’t want her to purchase it and then find that it will/possibly can go down in price.....

Thanks for any info you have/know

  11. We used Rainbow Glacier Adventures in July to the suspension bridge. The driver checked everyone's passport before boarding. At the border the Canadian border security boarded the bus, as described, we held our passports alongside our faces, he glanced at them, we went on. Some bicyclists ahead of us were turned away.

At the US border no one checked on the return.

I just looked up that tour... how did you like it??? Sounds like something we would like!!

  12.

We used Chilkoot Tours for a Bus / Train combo tour to Emerald Lake. The Canadian authorities boarded the bus on the way up and we just held our passports near our face so they could compare the photos were actually of us. Nothing was scanned. U S authorities did a similar check on the train on the way back.

Perfect. That’s what I was wondering!! I think we are gonna chance it and take the bus tour. Just don’t say anything if not asked, right!!! Haha:cool:

  13. For Victoria the cruise line sends the info to the Canadian Authorities in advance. If they want to talk to your DH . They will page him before anyone starts to disembark.

The border crossing into Canada at Skagway seems to be fairly easy, No big formalities.

Thanks. Figured so much with the cruise line as I have called them and spoke with them to make sure he could board. And like I said, even tho I have heard really nice things about Victoria, I just figured we would stay on board and chill for the day.

Knowing that we cross the border on the bus tour or the train, I didn’t want to get stuck there....

    Thanks for your response.

  14. I know it’s been discussed at length. But I can’t find a real definitive answer. Does anyone know how they check the passports on the Skagway bus tour? Do you just hold them up and they check them or do they actually scan them for validity. I only worry about Canada with my husband. I don’t want to get stuck there for some dui he had in 2003 and probation just got removed in 2013..... I know we cross in Canada briefly but still not sure of how extensive they get there or when we go to Victoria on the ship (which we are just gonna stay on the ship that day anyway.....)

  15. We have this excursion booked for our cruise in August. Reviews were good and we were able to use Chase points to pay for it as well...

I will check that out a little more when I get home tonight!! Thanks for the advice. I’m not much of a seafood eater, but the hubby is!! He can always eat mine and then I can eat when I get back on the ship!!!!

    Thanks again!!

  16. We did the Mt. Roberts Tram and Mendenhall on our own in one day without any problems. The only thing I can say is we also hiked on the trails at the top of the tram. It was very beautiful. The trails go up a long ways, you cannot see this from street level, but the mountain goes up much higher than the top of the tram. You could hike all day if you wanted. Tram was crowded, trails were not.

Mendenhall was fun too. However, we saw Davidson Glacier as part of an excursion in Skagway, and I thought walking all the way up to Davidson was a better experience than Mendenhall (skipping Mendenhall probably would be my choice if I had a do - over). However, if you have no other glacier visits then for sure go see Mendenhall.

    Have fun.

Thanks for the advice on Davidson Glacier. I will check that out too. You always hear about Mendenhall but not many of the others.

I went to Mendenhall in 2005 ... so I have seen it but it’s my husbands first time to Alaska.

  17. We have a Toursaver coupon for buy-1-get-1 for Mt. Roberts, and was thinking to use it. The tram does not go up very high. We also saw it surrounded by cloud. Since we cannot see it up there, we decided not to go up there as we know we won't be able to see down.

But you had to pay for the toursaver booklet, I am assuming? That’s the only thing I found for it?! Kind of defeats the purpose of getting a better price if that’s all I use it for!!!

  18. is there a cruise shore excursion that combines both Mt Toberts Tram and Mendenhall Glacier together? I tried to look on the cruise website and didn’t see anything but was hoping maybe someone knew of someone who combines the two for a little better rate!! Thanks
