  1. I am very glad to see Carnival implementing this. I have worked in the hospitality industry for 22 years and by far one our biggest expenses is the wasted food from our free breakfast bar. It is simply amazing to see the food thrown away on a daily basis. Just because it is paid for with your room, there is no need to be wasteful.

  2. Cruise Directors do not make or break a cruise for me but I did find that after sailing with Mike Pack on the Paradise and just recently Matt Mitchum on the Vista my enjoyment of the cruise activities went up a notch.

I agree with another poster that commented that a connected and happy CD makes for a entertainment staff that enjoys their jobs as well.

  3. Some speculation for everyone. Horizon is still not showing up on any of the usual port schedules that have been released which is very odd. There are 3 listings for Gibraltar in May 2018 for a ship called Vista Class (yes I know those belong to other Carnival Corp lines) BUT the gross tons match what has been released for Horizon and is much larger than any of the actual Vista Class ships sailing. Also, the booking agency is the same one that did the Vista sailings. They could all be place holders until the TA is ironed out if they are going to sail her to the US for the summer season  That would make a very short Med season for sure.

There are rumblings from people who have sailed with JH recently that he has hemmed and hawed about a Europe season (or a full season).

    Ok, have fun!

Was on the Repo Cruise from New York to Miami and in John's question and answer session he did indeed hem and haw about whether the Horizon would sail in Europe summer of 2018. He also said the Horizon's homeport is already decided but of course would not say which port it is.

  4. Like! I cant use nor require most all the bells and whistles of the giants today. I dont do balconies either. Give me a clean ship with good service and decent food and drink and Im good to go.

I will feel a sense of sadness when Holiday goes the same way. My first cruise. Still to this day the best service, food and fun of any cruise Ive been on yet. She looks absolutely stunning under the cruise line she is with now as Magellan. Id sail on her tomorrow!

Wow the Holiday looks great. She was the ship that started my love affair for cruising.

  5. My wife and I are thinking of booking a five-day cruise out of Tampa on the Carnival Paradise in February, but we are shocked at the number of awful reviews. We realize it is an older ship, it only has one pool, has no 2.0 upgrades,; but the reviews say it is filthy, has poor service, lousy entertainment, and awful food.

Our expectations are reasonable; we are have sailed on Fantasy ships before, but we are, indeed, concerned. Can anyone tell me whether I should ignore the reviews, or avoid this cruise at all costs.

Sailed the Paradise in May. Had a great cruise. Yes, the ship is older, but it was well maintained and the crew was great.

  6. I want to thank all of you for your answers. It is very helpful to me. I am surprised that, except for Sandy, all replies are from those of you who have been to Alaska more than once. The insights from those who have been to Alaska multiple times are very valuable to me. I also hope more people who have only gone once will share their reasons.

    Thank you all!

I have only gone once with no plans to repeat. I loved Alaska. It was beautiful, but frankly, I just do not like to be cold. Beautiful warm weather on land, but always cold on the ship in Alaskan waters. For me cruising is a warm weather sport.:D

  7. I too feel uncomfortable with this. I mean, do they really get reprimanded for scores less than 10, even an 8 or 9? I must admit that guilt usually gets the best of me and I give them a 10 even if they don't deserve it.

I would not be surprised. I work for a large international hotel corporation and any score for us under a 9 is a fail.

  8. Just off the Glory 8/29-9/5.

This was my 12th Carnival cruise, and we have had some really good Cruise Directors (and some not so good, looking at you Jacques), but I have never experienced a cruise that was enhanced so much by the CD. Mike was everywhere getting involved with everything. After every show he moved the group to the main lobby and continued the party for up to 2 hours. It was truly incredible, and the most fun we have had in all our time cruising.

If you have the chance to cruise with Mike Pack, do not miss it!!:D

100% agree. He was CD last May on the Conquest. He was awesome.
