I use WiFi calling a lot on ship.  I will also turn off cellular data and connect to the ship cellular regularly since I find that there are some texts (and voice mails) that will for some reason not come through unless on the ship/shore cellular.  There is no charge to receive texts.  Then I will turn off cellular (i.e. airplane mode) to do replies.

My theory is that if the WiFi drops out when the text/voicemail comes in, it will not try again and you have to be on a cell system to get it.  WiFi drops out a lot in crowded areas like the Promenade at night or in shows.

Hello found this while searching Premium wifi. When you do this what brand ship are you on? I have AT&T and an Android. I was told by Celebrity that the Premium package and wifi calling would allow phone calls. I have had issues with text, however, and would love to be able to access those during my working time on the ship .

Any advice or help would be appreciated. Thank you

  2. We are going in June on the Eqypt AMA cruise and after reading reviews I am concerned. I guess I could lose a few pounds. It will be our first time on AMA, and I had always heard it was a step above Viking which we love. Someone even posted that the drinks were terrible. How is it possible to mess up a cocktail? Are the drinks included or just beer and wine at meals?

  3. I bring my own books also but if I finish a book I will put it in the ship library for anyone else who wants to read it. Maybe I should throw a few in my bag that need to be donated and drop them off at the library so someone can enjoy them.

  4. These are all great descriptions of the various bars on the Equinox . I usually wander around and try them all and then decide on which bartenders are my favorites or who make my drinks the best. Then that is where we usually end up.

Cafe Blanco also has a few wines and it might have Sambuca as it did on the last ship. Last year when we were on the Equinox , I looked at the schedule on the app and had such plans for going to the ensemble and listening to music etc. and then found a fabulous bartender at Craft social and ended up staying there most of the time or passport if we were not outside and up top.

    we’ll be there next week.

The cruise director is Pete Baker who I thought, did a great job. The Activities Director was Mark, I didn’t catch his last name. I’ve forgotten the Captain’s name.

I believe Mark was there last year when we were on Equinox. I would do a guided meditation in the mornings on the lawn outside the hot glass blowing. He would also do the pub trivia most times at 9 PM which was lots of fun and also different trivia during the day in the sky lounge. I am sure it’s the same guy and hopefully he will do the morning meditations again.

Thank you so much for your posts. We will be joining you on the December 23 leg and are so excited. It will be our second holiday cruise. I have looked at the activities through the app and I am excited to watch some movies. We did that on the Constellation when we were on our February 2020 cruise and it was so nice and relaxing. We are also looking forward to watching the Kansas City Chiefs football games as well as some of the college games. I’m sure I’ll find some time to do a little work remotely.

hopefully we can meet you on the holiday cruise and have a drink together. In the meantime we will follow you here until we leave next Wednesday for Florida.

    Have fun!

    Loved reading your review!

Totally understood what you mean about the vendors in Cartagena….We had previously read reviews about the ‘insistence’ of sales and decided to book a carriage tour…It was ideal as we were ‘above’ the height of the persistent and our personal space was protected and could simply enjoy the views!

We were on Silhouette in September and loved her, cannot wait to board again next year!

How did you like the carriage tour? Was it the evening tour through Celebrity? I was looking at that for our Upcoming cruise.

We go to garage sales nearly every Saturday.  Early on with this we hit a neighborhood where a lot of families had banded together to make masks with different themes.  Pretty crafty folks.  We bought several.

I work in insurance so I have a bunch of free ones from my carriers. I’m not a fan of the disposable except in certain cases so I can throw away.

I wasn’t going to mention this, but I thought on it and decided I should.

I have overheard several people onboard complaining about this cruise. Mainly due to enhanced COVID protocols and the limited availability of port activities.

    You know what??

There are enhanced COVID protocols and limited availability of port activities!!

I know that as Cruise Critic members we get and share a lot of information. And I would probably consider the majority of people who frequent this site to be better informed than the average non-CC cruiser.

    But.

Even without Cruise Critic. How many emails have you received from Celebrity prior to your cruise? How many news articles or social media posts have you seen with regard to mask requirements, travel restrictions, COVID testing, etc?

Does anyone expect this cruise to be exactly like cruises you’ve taken in the past? Who are these people who are surprised at port restrictions? Yes! It can be disappointing. And yes! Many people have decided it’s not worth it right now and are waiting for the health situation to improve before sailing again. I think this is a great idea! If you know you won’t enjoy your cruise with these adjusted rules in place, then it is absolutely in your best interest to wait. Do what’s best for you.

BUT do not get onboard and grouse and complain about how there’s nothing to do, and nothing open in port.

I’m so sorry for the rant. But I’m finding these people (not many complainers, but enough) absolutely infuriating.

    Sigh. I feel better now.
    😁

This is AWESOME! I am so glad that you shared this. I feel the exact same way. Life is different these days and you have to be flexible. Bravo to you for sharing this and your fabulous posts for all of us. Thank you so much! We appreciate it!

Can you believe we are finally getting back to cruising?! Have you been reading every single LIVE thread just hoping it helps the time move a little faster, like I have? Are you so ready to get back onboard that you’ve been packed for two weeks!? No? Just me?

My husband Mark and I are onboard Equinox for twelve whole days (!) starting Sunday. Our ports have been changed, but we DO NOT care. We are so happy just to get back onboard that we could float around for twelve days and be supremely happy.

Went today to CVS Minute Clinic for our rapid antigen tests. Q-tip in the nose. Easy peasy.

Nurse will call with results in 20 minutes. Felt like I held my breath that long.

Phone call on the way home…

Question about the CVS testing - did you get an email? Did you get a “travel certificate ?” Our son moved back to US from Sweden and they needed travel certificates for their flights.

Did you get a travel certificate?

    Thank you Marcia

  11. What happens on Celebrity when you go on as Select but will earn Elite while on the cruise? I've talked to CC and they said the Elite would not kick in until after the cruise you earn it. On another line in December, they told us that we would get the higher CC level ON the cruise where it is earned. Has anyone had this experience on Celebrity? Is it a ship by ship basis with the CC crew on board?

    thanks
