Thanks for the info. I just got an e-mail from Viking about the situation. I didn't realize that they had so many ships to cover river problems with little disruption.
No grumpy moments will occur in our group of 4 as we're eager for an adventure by land or by ... river!

Hi - booked on Skadi Oct 6 out of Budapest - Amsterdam. MarineTraffic shows ship itinerary going back to Amsterdam on 10/5.
No word from Viking.
Anyone have a clue what's going on near Wertheim? https://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/home/centerx:9.435/centery:49.792/zoom:12
Thanks!
Low Water Levels Affecting Danube, Rhine River Cruises
in River Cruising

Just returned from Viking Budapest to Amsterdam, Oct 6 sailing. Still collecting my thoughts about all the detours, but we changes ships 3 times.
Started with the ship not able to get into Budapest, so we were bussed to ship & back into Budapest. Did Rhine gorge in a smaller boat (pic attached of exposed river bed at Lorelei curve)
Outlying tours were cancelled, never got to Koblenz. Bussing cut into our time in towns & cities. Locals were vocal about the historic low water levels in the rivers. Viking kept us updated every evening. The last few days, there were hints that we would be surprised when we got home.....
2 days after the trip ended, a voucher was received for 50% of cost of the trip & towards another Viking trip. They did a very honorable thing to preserve their reputation.
IMHO, Viking did the best they could to deal with unpredictable events.
Wishing future river Cruisers good luck with their planned trips.
