  1. We're on the Harmony in a couple of weeks and having booked our dining options it looks likely that we will be in the Coastal Kitchen on one of the formal nights. Can anyone advise if people still dress up when eating in there? Just so we pack appropriately ... We don't want to look like a couple of numpties all dressed up if no one else is .... :)

  2. Thanks for all your replies - in light of them, the tux will be packed :D

    It actually travels quite well!

I only asked as our first cruise on RCI Rhapsody of the Seas was in the Caribbean, and we were two of only three people who actually wore them on the whole ship.

The last 3 years, all in Nov, I have left the tux at home. Took a black suit and a white dinner jacket. You will find a mix of all 3 on Celebrity. Last yr on Reflection there were very few not in some form of suit/tux.

Oh, this Nov the tux has been required to be packed:D

Wallie5446 - at least we know we wont be the only ones - see you on board ...

  3. Can any one advise how dressy a cruise in the Caribbean on Celebrity is likely to be on a formal night?

We enjoy dressing up in a tux etc, but will we be the only two?

It won't make much difference to the luggage as we will still need to bring a shirt/tie/jacket etc, but then again we dont want to look like a couple of muppets if everyone else has turned up in shirt sleeves

    Thanks ...

  4. Does anyone happen to know the approximate cost of a cab from Miami Airport to Fort Lauderdale?

We're cruising from Fort Lauderdale but flying into Miami airport as that's a direct flight. We then have a couple of nights in a hotel in Fort Lauderdale so we need transport there.

The Miami airport website gives an approximate cost of $81.70 - does anyone know if thats current?

Our hotel has said they can arrange a car to pick us up for $110 plus gratuity which does not seem a whole lot more considering the cost of the holiday as a whole ;)

    Thanks ....

  5. Hi Apple,

Thanks for your thoughts - we are sorely tempted by a couple of trips next year, one New England & Canada and one Hawaii, so it's good to know the overall experience is a step up from P&O :D.

We don't mind a more US centric passenger make up - in fact we prefer it!

Though we're not making our minds up until we have tried Oceania Cruises which we board in 4 weeks today (not that I am counting).

  6. Hi Apple - I am glad you had a good time - I think you hit the nail on the head - for me there was no wow either, but then that is just personal opinion ;)

I was interested to read your comments on Princess - we have never tried them but have seen some nice itineraries - our concern is that they would just be like going on a P&O ship. Though the basic structure is the same, in your opinion is it a much better product overall? We do have some concerns on the deck space - on Ventura it was severely limited (though on Azura they have resolved it partially by taking away the roof to the 'indoor' pool.

  7. Hi PC - I've never known there to be a meet and greet, FOD meeting, GLBT gathering (call it what you will) on a P&O ship, though I think I have read of the occasional one.

As to their general gay friendliness, we have never noticed anything specifically directed towards our orientation - we have just found the crew generally miserable and unfriendly!

  8. My partner and I have cruised on P&O a fair few times and have always had a nice time, though to be honest most of them have been short 2 or 3 night cruises as we only live half an hour away from Southampton and its a good excuse to get away.

Would I pick P&O for our main holiday? I would have to say no, mainly because of the passengers - its just too full of Brits and we prefer a more cosmopolitan mix that you get on the other lines, specially Celebrity. We did do a two week transatlantic on Ventura and the low point (apart from the surly and miserable staff) was the Great British Sailaway - think drunk middle aged men crying as their favourite football anthems were played over the tannoy - well, you get the picture :) (I maybe shot down for that).

Some people love P&O, and for a two night trip I am sure you will have a great time - the drinks are at least cheap!
