  1. This may have been stated before and I just missed it, be sure and download the Viking Voyager app before you head for your cruise and once aboard and using your ships WiFi, you can make dinner reservations. I had forgotten about the app until a fellow CruiseCritic reminded me while I was in the reservation line on embarkation day. They were only letting you make one reservation manually with them, but I was able to make all I wanted on the app. Technology Wins!

thanks for that reminder, this will be our first VO cruise, on SEA, in late May for the Baltic Sea Countries. We are aware that we'll be limited to two reservations at Manfredi's.....however I just realized THE RESTAURANT & WINTERGARDEN may require reservations? Will the Viking Voyager app help with those locations?

  2. re: tipping

We have 5 adult kids, once each was able to drive & go out to eat with friends, I sat him or her down for some advice ...."You are not ready to eat out until you can afford to give the waitstaff a fair/decent tip." The two youngest sons spent a lot of hours working in restaurants, and have always grown up to be generous tippers. They also understand the value of working for tips- - & delivering good service. Personally, I like to tip...and to reinforce what we enjoyed on our tour. It should be easy to determine how much tip money we need since we have to register for all of our excursions (in advance).

  3. We have only cruised with ROAD SCHOLAR, so we do have a few questions about the VHomelands tour: could someone tell us what the name brands of the basic beverage package? Do we make reservations for exercise equipment in the spa area? If we are not using an excursion, how early are we allowed to depart? It it appears that tipping the driver & guide for each excursion is still suggested? and USDollars are ok for tips? For visiting the Hermitage, what are the benefits of the private tour? We will arrive Jun 1st, so perhaps the museum is getting overcrowded? One of us is a vegetarian, how is the salad bar? Thanks so much

to everyone who responded many thanks, it is wonderful to see responses. Here's my follow-up (1) I am hoping the salad bar in the World Cafe is good, I would love to hear from Viking Cruisers; (2) the Hermitage question is about the difference between the two options offered by Viking. We are not interested in contacting a new tour group; the offerings for St Petersburg are fine for us. We choose in less than 5 weeks, very exciting. (3) Tipping on our previous Road Scholar cruise became a major issue the last night, so that's why we wish to be very aware of polite protocol. Two Viking cruisers who were with us on that cruise gave us advice about tipping on a VIKING Ship, but didn't elaborate about the individual drivers & tour guides. (4) alcoholic beverages: we would prefer not to have generic beer or wine with our meals, but we certainly do not expect to drink champagne & cognac nightly. A better question might be : does the upgraded beverage package provide different daily selections? perhaps beverages from the country we are to visit the next day? (5) back to food again, all the desserts are spectacular, however, we will have plenty of fresh/seasonal fruit offered, too? thank you again

  5. Hello, we have only cruised with ROAD SCHOLAR. We have some questions about the amenities on board. If we wish to use the gym facilities, treadmills, etc, do we need to make a reservation? Is this gym open 24 hrs? What are the hours for the SPA? We have chosen the basic alcoholic beverage option, can we find out what beverages are offered? If we are choosing not to participate in tour, can we depart at the port at our convenience? Thanks
