  1. Was it mentioned in the Free Style Daily the night before? How did you learn of them having Prime Rib in O'Sheehans? Were there a lot of diners there for that? I hope the Pearl has a night or two of that!

We found out about the prime rib from the ship wide announcements by the cruise director. Although it was a port day, the prime rib was mentioned at least a couple of times that we heard (before and after we went to port). I don't remember it in the Free Style Daily, but I didn't look too close at it either. At 5:30 PM (time when the prime rib was first available) the restaurant it was basically 75% empty. When we sat down we just said we wanted the prime rib and a round of drinks and within 10 minutes we were eating. At this time about half the ship was at Nassau in port as all aboard was at least an hour away. When we finished the place was still very empty.

When we got back from Tortola it was a different story, O'Sheehans was a 45 minute wait as a flood of people came back to the ship at 2 PM with the early all aboard time. I'm not sure if this was a function of the last day of a cruise, or the all aboard time, or both. No special that day though.

  2. We just got off the Escape on Saturday. Prime Rib was served at least twice at O'Sheehans. On the last day (Friday-Nassau) we had a prime rib appetizer before we packed and ate to a late dinner. My cut of medium-rare was done perfectly. This was one of the best meals of the week. To my surprise, I thought it was much better than the porterhouse at Cagney's earlier in the week.

  3. At first I did not think this package would work for me, because I thought I would not drink 8 beers a day.

Then I began to think about it. Ok... I have a 2 or 3 beers by the pool, a coffee drink in the morning, a big bottle of water to stay hydrated in the afternoon, a cocktail waiting for everyone before dinner, 40% of the wine bottle for the table at dinner. Then on sea days or at Princess Cays I have a few more beers and water bottles.

I soon decided it was worth it for me. My wife on the other had it was not and she went ala-carte.

I did find that I ordered more expensive wines by the bottle than usual. I also tried some cocktails that I normally would not have tried. I also found that it I had a few minutes to kill and I was next to a bar, I just ordered an extra drink that I normally might not have ordered.

  4. From Presidents day in February to the week after Easter you will find many multi-generational families on a week long break that ties into their school break. Seems like different areas of the country have different breaks.

Fortunately (or unfortunately depending on your perspective) Princess is not a college spring break destination. Unless the spring breakers are traveling with parents or grand parents.

One year our cruise was over super bowl week. Our oldest was in pre-school and there were about 12 kids on the ship in her age range for the kids club.

  5. We are huge CAPS fans but I do like the Blackhawks. I love Patrick Kane. Couldn't believe how much he was booed at the All Star game.

Nashville has taken on this sudo rivalry with the Hawks the last couple of years. Traveling to Nashville is only a 7 hour car ride or a quick cheap flight. Nashville also makes a great get away. As a result when the Hawks are in town over 50% of the attendance are wearing red sweaters with the Indian Head logo and that has really stoked the rivalry from the Nashville side of the equation. Last year in the playoffs the owner of the Preds put in a bunch of rules to keep the Hawks fans away (selling only to credit cards with local zip codes, creating rules to make it illegal to wear non Predator logo wear in clubs, boxes and premium seating close to the glass, etc.). Of course loosing to the same team over an over gets under their skin too (trust me I know first hand because I'm also a Bears fan and I hate the evil Packer empire-lol).

  6. I've read that you can walk to the pink sand beach if you walk to the right (as you look from the ocean). At the point of the island there is a light house and the pink sand is just beyond the light house. The other hints were to bring water and good shoes to climb over rocks. There might be a more direct path, but no idea how to cut through to get there that way.

When we are there the end of March I'm going to head out and see what I can find. The worst case is a nice walk on the beach.

  7. It's been many cruises since we have done the Eastern Caribbean and visited Princess Cays. I've stayed subscribed to this thread waiting for the time we get back there. We just booked a trip for spring break in 2016 that will allow for me to visit the old graves and hopefully its not too hot that day to keep going to the pink sand beach. I can't wait for April.

  8. You may still pick up another couple. Our group got bigger at the last minute. Ask people on your roll call if they are interested. A good chance that there are some people trying to make last minute plans and they will be looking through the roll call for ideas.

  9. does anyone know if there is time to shop at the west end before they take you back??

we will be on in Dec.

    I wish you well

This tour is the opposite direction from the west end. Plenty of time for shopping in port once you get back. It would be cutting it close if you took a cab to the west end and back after.

  10. Just like Guest 2000 said, they are very conscious of getting you back to the cruise ship in time. Transportation was very smooth for us. We still had plenty of time after we got back to shop in port and pick up different things for everyone back home.

  11. Is there enough shade available? I notice that the website lists palapas on a first come basis, but doesn't mention how many there are. I'd love to book this for our January cruise, but I've had skin cancer and (sadly) have to limit my sun exposure.

Plenty of shade. When I've been there, everyone that wants a palapa on the ocean has one. There are shade trees and palms further back. Adjacent to the pool and swim up bar there is a huge thatched roof shelter/dining that seems really dark after being out by the ocean, but you still have an ocean view just 20 steps or so from the water. Nachi is a great beach option for shade in my opinion.

  12. Just came off the Carnival Dream on Sunday. This is NOT a Carnival sponsored tour -- it's WAY better than any Carnival tour (and I've sailed CCL and used it's tours for most of my 13 cruises). Spent last Wednesday aboard the Free Radical with the owners, Ed and Julie. Ed and Julie, from Canada, circumnavigated the globe, traveling more than 60,000 miles, in a smaller catamaran before settling in Roatan. There were only 7 of us booked on this charter. Their van driver picked us up just outside of the Carnival owned port area and drove us 20 minutes across the island to their dock. Ed and Julie greeted us and as soon as we boarded, offered fresh baked muffins and beverages (they live aboard and have full cooking/baking facilities). After our first amazing snorkeling stop, there were fresh baked peanut butter cookies, pizza baguettes and homemade pico de gallo with tortilla chips. The second snorkeling stop was even more amazing than the first! After another hour or so in the water, the lunch bell sounded. As they started setting out the buffet, I asked if they knew there were only 7 of us - to which Julie replied they do the same food for 6 as they do for 30, just in smaller quantities! They offered soda, beer, and fresh made pina coladas, then homemade lasagna, caesar salad, grilled chicken kabobs, meatballs in pineapple sauce, and island red beans & rice dish. All of this amazing food (none of which goes to waste, leftovers are distributed to the crew and scraps ground for food for island pigs) was followed on the ride back to the dock with fresh baked banana bread with buttercream frosting and carrot cake muffins with cream cheese frosting. It was worth far more than they charge.

I agree completely. We joined Ed and Julie two years ago and we can't wait to see them again New Years Eve when we sail there on the Emerald Princess.

  13. We have been to Nachi 3 times in the past. The food is great and the portions are huge. Last time I was too full for desert and I'm a big eater. Our kids love to order different virgin frozen drinks and I love a big selection of beers in a bottle. I think the pool is very large especially when you consider the number of people they allow in (you can be the judge in the pictures). You can also rent wave runners, take a banana boat ride, kayak, etc. with usually no wait.

  14. The lighthouse is on the opposite side of the graves, right? How far to the lighthouse from the dock? I know that we are going to trek to the graves but the lighthouse also looks good.

    Linda

Both are to the right as you look from the ocean to the beach. The lighthouse is just further down the beach at the bottom of the island.

  15. Glad to hear the worst I'll have to deal with is not so intelligent criminals. :) I plan on going all the way out to Lighthouse Point which looks so incredible. If you haven't checked out the pictures that were posted on Google Earth, do so - it's worth it!

I've seen pictures that show a pink sand beach on the other side of lighthouse point. I'm not sure if I'll make it out that far, but definitely making it to the graves.
