Well, you don´t need to touch it - as some mentioned above.

However, if they do it according to the German regulations also in place for restaurants etc. (and it sounds like it) tables and everything on the tables is sanitized every time after a guests leave.

That being said, by now it´s a well known fact that risk of contact contamination with Covid is minimal - contrary to gastrontestinal deseases.

German restaurants use laminated menues that are disinfected immediately after the guests have made their choice. You can feel safe at any time.

Thank you so much for your live report  GERMANCRUISER !!

Enjoy the rest of your cruise to nowhere and take care

Looks like Carnival may try starting with AIDA from Germany and maybe visit Italy.  Any cruises starting is good news.  A small start will hopefully grease the skids for more and more to follow.

TUI Cruises is scheduled to resume service in late July, sailing from Hamburg on short three and four-day cruises into the North Sea. Capacity limited to 60 percent, balcony and above cabins only, no port calls, strict health and hygiene protocols!!!

AIDA will resume in August sailing from  Hamburg, Warnemünde ( Baltic Sea ) and Kiel. Short cruises - no port calls!

    Stay safe and healthy

In my opinion, you are misinformed and mistaken.

The reason for the ban is that allowing US citizens to enter the EU (or any other country) is an unacceptable health risk - as the US government on the whole is failing to manage the spread of COVID.

Citizens from other countries see this, and we sympathise with you. It is very sad you are in this situation, and our thoughts are with you.

Totally agree!! Take care and stay healthy.

We were on Jewel last week. I posted this comment on another thread but somehow it has been deleted: Why do you think the GBP 199 British crowd behaves better than the Russians or others? I have never seen so many (drunk) people in dirty British soccer jerseys, shorts and flip-flops even on formal nights in the restaurants and bars. It is a shame for this nice ship!

Sorry to hear that...hope you could make the most of your cruise. We will board Jewel next Monday for a B2B and hope that we will be able to enjoy our sailing.
