  1. Unless you are going directly from the Airport.  I suggest taking an Uber, so much cheaper.  Uber cannot pick up at the airport though.  I was there in Sept.  Stayed at the Courtyard Miramar.  My Taxi to the hotel was 24.00 plus tip, my Uber was less than 10 with tip.  Uber can drop off at the airport.

  2. Just returned from the Alaskan Cruise last week; Here are the Highlights( and Low Lights)

    FRIDAY 7/13 - EMBARKATION; Arrived around 11:45a, smooth and efficient ( if you have all your documentation in order)

    on board by 12:30p; Cabin was ready by 1pm; all bags arrived by 5pm; Muster drill pretty painless; they no longer required life jackets to be worn; Welcome aboard show as the featured nightly entertainment

    SATURDAY 7/14 - AT SEA; Too cold to go on deck; Lots of trivia, games, bingo to keep occupied; 2 Ice shows this afternoon; NO MORE STANDING IN LINE FOR TICKETS; They do it by muster station; divided into 4 separate shows[ standby seating 10 minutes prior to showtime; Well worth the time; 1st formal night as well as the Capt's welcome aboard party;

    Singers and Dancers as the featured nightly show; Also the comedian does a Late night Adults only show - very very funny;

    Moved clocks back 1 hour to get in sync with Alaska time

    Looking forward to your review, we sail out on August 24th

  3. I knew I was forgetting to ask you something and you just posted the answer to the question. We will definitely be stopping by to see Jose.

    With the new policy, both wife and I have the deluxe package. I don’t drink as much as her and would be fine with the free Diamond drinks. We were on Vision a couple months ago and some bar tenders were allowing guests to purchase the deluxe package without requiring others in the same cabin to buy it. Did you see or hear this happening on Explorer?

    Call and ask if you booked through Royal. I did and we did not have to buy the same package. We both did buy packages but ones that suited our tastes.

  4. A few years ago we sailed with (but not part of) a large rock & roll cruise.

    They had a few exclusive concerts for their group and I recall a cocktail party one evening by the pool. I don’t recall if other venues were closed. If they were, it likely did not interfere with general cruise activities. (I suspect I would have remembered if there were major inconveniences.)

    A couple of the group members offered photo opportunities and signed promo pictures for anyone. We took a cute photo with Bouzer from Sha Na Na.

    OP - I hope you have no issues.

    Bowser from Sha Na Na is part of this Oldies cruise too

  5. On my August 24, 2018 sailing on Explorer of the Seas, AAA is hosting a Rockin the Glacier cruise with oldies groups performing. There is a premium charge for this, some of us are wondering how it might impact our onboard itinerary. Has anyone cruised with this type of activities, and what was your experience? AAA information says they are supposed to have special dances and concerts during the cruise. I am sure because we have not booked through AAA we will not be a part of these activities but wondering if we may have limited activities because of this. TIA.

  6. First sea day is almost over. we mostly just roamed and explored the ship. We did bingo ... Lost [emoji22] Took a short nap [emoji99] Played some roulette... lost [emoji22] Wife played some roulette... won!![emoji2] .

    Watched family karaoke- entertaining as usual.

    so far breakfast and lunch have all been WJ/Cafe P. Oh yea and drinks mixed in all throughout but that’s a given with me.

    currently getting ready for dinner, we have 8 pm dining with 6 other adults and 5 kids in our group. Marvic “sexy “ is our MDR waitress and she is fantastic.

    We will be in Juneau tomorrow. We have a tour booked for a helicopter ride to a glacier with others from our group.

    We are thinking of doing the helicoptor tour. I will be watching to see how you like it. Which one are you doing?

    We are in 9308 just down the hall in August. Look forward to your posts. My family lived in Pittsburgh, I went to high school at Mt. Lebanon. Love to go back to visit from time to time. Enjoy your trip!

  8. My daughter has a knee scooter after ankle surgery, she went to a concert in Napa Valley this weekend. The Scooter was a casualty due to rough terrain. It was designed for getting around house, office etc, not hiking or extended unpaved surfaces. Make sure you take allen wrenches with you. My daughter had to stop at Ace Hardware to get her knee scooter repaired.

  9. I am flying Southwest to Seattle in August for my Alaskan cruise. The Best thing about Southwest, they will adjust your fare and give you a credit. I have adjust twice in about a month and have a 69.40 credit for a future flight. Delta I know for a fact will not do this.
