  1. I’m booked on the Caribbean Princess in December. I’m on the Baja deck and from this thread, it appears that some of the Baja rooms are *****? How would I know if my room is?

Note that we didn’t actually choose this cabin. We were auto-upgraded into it.

  2. The third bed is in the ceiling. It pulls down and there is a ladder to access the bed. Please note that the other beds will almost certainly need to be in a twin configuration rather than a queen configuration. I'm sure you can manage to deal with that. Enjoy your cruise.

People sailing only two to a cabin of that type often don't even realize there is a third bed in the ceiling.

Does it come out of the ceiling over one of the twin beds or in front of the balcony?

  3. Hi

We just got an email that we were magically upgraded from an oceanview to a balcony on an upcoming cruise. (Specifically to Baja 632 on the Caribbean Princess.)

We are cruising with three people. We've stayed in interior and oceanviews before, so I'm familiar with the pull-down beds in those rooms for 3 and 4 people.

But where is the third bed in a BD-class balcony cabin? The cabin in question is clearly marked as a 3-person cabin, but I can't imagine where they put the third bed in the balcony configuration.

Any info, or even pictures would be most welcome!

  4. I was also on this cruise and I thought it was very enjoyable. This was also the first time we did an overview cabin and it was fantastic. Much better than we had expected. We really enjoyed being right off the Piazza. We could get to our rooms, the dining rooms, and the I-Cafe so quickly.

  5. Thank you for the info! Our iPads are wifi only, so no SIM card with them. Do the Mobal cards for the iPhone let you hot spot? When when we're in Germany a couple of years ago I got a SIM card for my iPhone, and was able to hot spot our iPads with it. We were road tripping so I booked all of our hotels a day ahead while driving down the autobahn. Unfortunately at that time the data stopped at the Germany border so I was data-less in Belgium and Holland. I did all of my communication to back home with Facebook Messenger or iMessage text. I didn't worry about making phone calls.

I believe it did allow hot spot, just be sure to check your usage.

  6. I was traveling around Europe last summer. I didn’t find my US carrier’s international plan compelling, so I searched around. I had an iPad and iPhone.

For the iPad, I used CellHire, which I believe I bought through Amazon. It had a separate SIM, I just plugged it in and I was off and running. Worked great, easy to check data usage, no problems.

For my phone, I used Mobal, which I also bought through Amazon. Popped in the SIM card once I got to Europe and all went well. One important note: this option gives you a European phone number. In my case, I had a U.K. number. So calls to my US number did not go through.

Also, I had to manually edit phone numbers in my contacts to dial them. For example, in the US, you can dial 212-555-1234 and it will go through. But from the U.K. you have to dial +1 212-555-1234. So I had to edit each contact for the few times I needed to call back to the US. (It doesn’t hurt anything to leave the +1 part on when you are back in the US. Your phone is smart enough to figure out what to do on that case.)

  7. Well, there is no limit on holiday cruises...over 700 kids were on our Thanksgiving cruise and for us it was a nightmare...March will likely have very few children.

We were not allowed to book a holiday cruise because they had reached some kind of limit for my kid’s age range. It’s not the total number of kids, it’s how many are in each age bracket. That’s the safety rule, as they explained it to me.

Just speculating on this part, but there might be unlimited slots for kids over 14 or 16, but they limit the younger ones? Not sure. But it did happen to us.

And like others indicated, any Princess agent can give you the count.

  8. Princess will often tell you in advance if you ask' date=' or the CD knows after boarding.

I'm not sure why it matters.

There is a limit for each age category of kid. This is a safety rule. It actually affected me, as we were trying to book a cruise during a holiday and they had hit the maximum for my son's age range, so we were unable to book.

  9. I almost always arrive the night before the cruise and spend it in a hotel. I’ll hit up the local big box store for provisions, including soda and water.

I’ll pack extra luggage tags and clear packing tape and just tape the luggage tags directly onto the cases of soda and water and drop it off with the porters. Easy Peasy.

The TD vs ATD thing really depends on your flexibility and how you like to cruise. One possibility with ATD is to call the ship’s DINE line each day at 8 AM and make a reservation. That can minimize your waiting and can be handy if you can’t do a fixed time each day.

  10. Hours can vary. There are usually fixed hours that are set each sea day. Off of memory they would be roughly like 8-12, 1-5, and 7-10 on a sea day. In port, they are generally closed, but you can sign up for special port day programming in advance. This is in case your kid doesn’t want to go ashore. There is even “late night” care available that I’ve seen. Also, you have to sign up in advance. If your youngest isn’t potty trained, then special rules will apply as well.

  11. We used these guys in Genoa for the best of Florence & Pisa when we were on the Royal in June. It just great. The driver (Gabe) was safe and friendly. The guide (Cecelia) was super-knowledgeable. We probably could have spent extra time in Florence. There isn't much in Pisa by comparison.

Overall, I'd use them again and would recommend them.

  12. can I dip my toe in and ask why it is a safety issue?

Take a look at the photo above. It's not Princess, but the layout of the beds is similar. If they put the bottom two beds together, there's a high likelihood of people smashing their heads getting out of bed. Plus it would be difficult for the steward.

  13.

I called the Captain's Circle office & a very helpful CSR said she was unaware of a cancellation of the passport stamps program. She checked with other Captain's Circle reps & a supervisor who also had not been informed of a cancellation of the program. In an effort to provide accurate information, she's checking with another department who may have information on any changes.

She just called with additional information from another department responsible for the stamps. Princess is currently testing a new procedure on the Royal (OPs ship), Regal & Caribbean to request passport stamps from the Captain's Circle rep or at the PSD. Those are the first ships with Ocean Medallion & they're testing how many passengers desire the stamps.

Testing a change is understandable to me to reduce waste by only giving them to passengers who keep them & to not trash them. She said that the Captain's Circle section has been told to track passenger input they receive about the change being currently tested on those 3 ships. So they're interested in passenger feedback about this potential change to the passport stamps program.

I shared my desire to continue to receive passport stamps but wouldn't mind receiving them upon request. However since onboard staff told the OP the stamps have been canceled & not upon request, then the results of the test may be that few passengers desire them. While that may be true but by not being informed they are available upon request then the test results will be skewed.

    Hi there Astro Flyer

I'm not sure how they are testing this new process, since the medallion system is not active on the Royal yet, but they aren't carrying stamps. (Excepting the leftovers the CC Hostess had.)

I guess they are just tracking how many people ask for them, but the Hostess seemed fairly certain that the program is over.

However, I will gladly leave my feedback on my post-cruise survey.

Thanks for checking-in on the program with Princess! I hope that they end up making the stamps available again in some form.

  14. My wife and I are aboard the Royal Princess, Barcelona to Rome. We've been cruising Princess for 10 years and we've been collecting the commemorative Princess passport stickers for each cruise.

They usually had one sticker in your room upon check-in and you could get extras at the Captain's Circle Desk.

We were told that the stickers have been discontinued. Any given Captain's Circle Desk may have extras, but they won't be getting more.

This is such a small thing, but it's sad. We look at the passport book every time we plan a new cruise.

Maybe a lot of people didn't use the stickers so they were wasted. But I hope they bring them back on an as-requested basis, or even for sale in the store for a few bucks.
