  1. How has cruising changed since your first sailing. In the early 80's people dressed up a lot more before going to dinner every night.

The ships were much smaller, some holding under 1000 passengers.

Our first cruise was on Carnival Fantasy two. weeks after 911.

I have been on around 30 cruises since.

Hi, our first cruise was 1996 on Sovereign of the seas mini cruise Cape port Canaveral to the Bahamas. I remember our children one 9 years old. The look on his face of amazement when he saw the atrium such a lovely memory. Being from the UK never seeing such blue seas and a perfect beach on RCCL private beach. It took me some time to take it in!. The ship anchored floating in this amazing colour and the sugar coloured sand. Wonderful. :):)
  2. Does anybody know the list of cruise Directors on Sapphire Princess 2018/2019
Hi a guy called Paul who is English. Such a great funny guy very quick witted had everyone in stitches one of the best at sea. Just came off 6 days ago although possibly he is on leave now. The entertainers are great. An Australian guy Martinso funny again helpless with laughter so maybe they might replace Paul. A lady from Liverpool also great. All are very natural and very professional.
  3. Never been on Princess before but have a mini cruise booked in October. Obviously the UK / French weather probably wont be up to much so far as using the outside pool, but is there an inside / covered pool area and or hot tubs ?
Hi just got off the ship 6 days ago great pool very big and we have sailed on all the big named companies. Very impressive. Always towels near by and plentiful good thick quality.
  4. Good Morning

So we set sail 2 weeks on Sunday for a 2 week trip to the med. I'm not fussed about doing lots of excursions as I think they are pretty expensive. I'm more than happy to just get off the ship at each port, have a wander round for a couple of hours then get back on in time for lunch (yes I'm one of those who doesn't want to pay for meals on land when I've already paid for food on the ship :) )

The only port that I really fancy doing something is Civitavecchia. I'm really keen on seeing the vatican city, st peters basilica, trevi fountain etc. I've looked at the p+o excursions and even just for a train into St Peters its around £60pp.

Does anyone know the cost and ease of doing it yourself?

The train to rome is a short walk away from the port with regular stops cheap and takes you right into the centre of rome. Look at the train italia online will give info. We did this several years ago fab trains with double decker and info. Can't fail to get to rome just stay on until the end of the line. The journey is less than an hour.
  5. Has anyone experienced an inside cabin on Sapphire Princess Lido deck? if so was it noisy??
Very quiet L242 middle. Ideal for breakfast and the horizon court. Also easy for the lifts very short length corridor access with opening to the pizza station. A great well placed cabin. Although high up we did feel rocking but considering the Bay of bisque swells not as bad as I thought it might be. Go for it!
