Just a wet, dreary day, chilly, gloomy, and nap inducing.

You must have been in Gibraltar. It was not a nice day. We live across the border in Spain and could not see Gibraltar due to the weather.Incidentally, we are booked on the Dawn Transatlantic for the end of 2023, looking forward to sea days after our last cruise on the Dawn only seven days but every day a Port.

I too am on Dawn. I have not noticed jeans in the evening in the beautiful La Dame or competent Atlantide. Or even in La Terrazza. Outside at the Grill or Spaccanspoli may be “anything goes” which is as “picnic mode”.

I dress traditionally and in line with the recommended dress code, and have no issue with wearing a jacket every evening and a proper dinner jacket on formal nights. It’s always worth the effort.

I saw some amusing comments re jeans a year ago by some Seabourn cruisers keen to justify and promote jeans as evening wear. They said their jeans were very expensive; my take is they’re in the business. No kidding! FWIW, my opinion is jeans for men over 50 or 60 look anything but smart on this luxurious ship. Almost comical as if they’re ready for a day off school or maybe gardening tasks. But hey- if they wanna look like that it’s ok, right?

Just my 2 cents on jeans right now. The cocktail hour trio is playing in the Panorama bar,  2 couples are dancing, and the Silversea lady singers are in long sequined gowns. Jeans among us? Please.

    Happy and healthy sailing!

We disembarked the Dawn on the 2nd November, we did see a couple of men wearing blue jeans in the restaurants after 6:00 pm. I guess no one is around or bothering to say anything, he was wearing a jacket. On the Spirit a few years ago, we went to Atlantide with another couple we had met on board, it was Informal evening, the Maitre D asked him to go and put a jacket on.

But they will not get bail out and loans from the US. I believe there will be changes everywhere, i believe buffet will change or be eliminated, I know on holland America first day or so of cruise there was a buffet but food was served by staff. Hopefully my next cruise will sail in November but it’s msc yacht club, nothing is crowded there not pool chairs , bar area ,etc , I am happy to spend extra to have a little more space.

I also hope my next cruise will sail at the end of October,my 8th with Silversea, where hygiene had been implemented at the time I did my first cruise with them in 2010! Always had the Hand Gel at the entrance to every dining room, also at the Gangway when arriving back on board! The passenger capacity varies from 295 to 600 max depending on the ship! Plenty of space to move around. The buffet, only at lunchtime, staffed by waiters who will serve you at your table, if wished! The last time I was on board,a year ago, they had installed a hand washing station at the entrance to the Buffet. This all long before any sign of Coronavirus! So I suppose, at the end of the day, it depends on the Company you sail with.

Yes,  We've been booked(and paid) on the Cuba to Peru cruise leaving on the 19th October.  Been told that Cuba is now out which is annoying as we'd previously had the same with Silversea and only moved to Scenic because we understood that they were an Australian company and wouldn't be effected.  Sadly they have a US corporate office which, I'm told, is the problem.  I'm looking at staying on the revised cruise though I am very nervous about their lack of interest in trying to help us change the flights booked through them so that we can avoid the 4 hour immigration queues at Miama.  It seems that they will only do the bare minimum to help so long as it doesn't cost them much which is not what I expect of a supposed 5 star operation; hence my concern.  Are they financially viable?  Does anyone else have this problem?  I'd love to know.

We were booked with Scenic to do the Cuba in Depth cruise for October 18th of last year? Eight weeks after payment by bank transfer in full, we were notified that the cruise was cancelled, we all know why, no ship! We then found out that Silversea, who we had already done 6 sailings with were now doing Cuba, so we booked for the November 2019 sailing from Ft. Lauderdale! Guess what, no sailings to Cuba from the USA! Thank you Donald Trump! We cancelled, the ports that replaced Cuba, we did them in March!

It has nothing to do with where the offices are located, or what flag the ship sails under. Also USA citizens cannot visit under the previous “people to people” programme set up by Obama! My husband is a US citizen. What a mess!!!!!!!!!  I suppose we can forget about visiting Cuba, unless things change!😳

We were LUCKY to have our April 9th 23 day cruise cancelled. We did get all our money back, every cent. Scenic even paid our TA her commission. It was incredibly stressful that whole year wondering what the hell was going to happen. Many plans where really screwed up.

We had to wait for them to cancel before we went to plan B which I had researched just in case.

Turned out we had a magnificent cruise to NZ, southern and western Australia ( home of Scenic) and Bali on the Silversea, Silver Muse. SILVERSEA NEVER DISAPPOINTS. You can call them and actually talk to helpful knowledgable people.

There are a lot of these "boutique " small ships being built. Competition is a wonderful thing. 🤑

We were supposed to sail last October to Cuba, but, as we all know that never happened! We went back to Silversea last month for our sixth cruise and have another booked for November to Cuba, hope we make it this time,as long as there is no hiccup with the US Goverment banning US citizens from traveling there! Yes, agree,we could never get any information from Scenic, they were always very cagey. Love Silversea, always have the information to give one.

I think you've stated the position of many cruisers well ... well done to your travel agency for not paying prior to the due date - their phone call asking for early payment smacks of desperate need for cash IMO.

I can't blame you for not trusting them nor wanting to take a chance on them again.  Let me tell you this from personal experience .. they simply do not learn their lesson about providing truthful advice and good customer service -  IMO they think of paying passengers as cash cows and nothing else...they seem to have treat customers like a herd of cattle that can be ushered into one ship then off load them and the next lot come in ... their so called discounts off another cruise are just not worth it IMO while they treat passengers so disrespectfully.

     Exactly,well put.

OK so my 2cents worth now my money has finally gone into the bank I want to also express my bitter disappointment with Scenic - I too was sucked in by the glossy brochures/video - without going too much into it the likelihood of being able to do this again with my daughter is slim - nothing serious just timing with dd finishing uni, jobs and several other factors etc etc etc  We had planned well in advanced paid the high non refundable deposit 18 months early again etc as others did - whilst you can never say never I with 99.9% certainty will never consider this company in the future.  The fact they were ringing my TA on the Friday (payment was due on the following Tuesday) asking for payment a few days early (thankfully she said she would pay on the due date) - to be honest I find that quite unconsciable.  With their "generous" rebooking option it would have cost me several thousand more for the same cruise - nope not for me customer service attrocious even if it is only now I have received my money.

Feel exactly as you do,8 weeks after taking final payment,a bank transfer, and being rushed to pay.We received the phone call that the cruise was cancelled, that was July last year. Still no ship!😳

  8. Reading with great interest all the comments with regards Scenic Eclipse. Our cruise was cancelled back in July, of course, the ship was not going to be ready for our 'Cuba in Depth' sailing on the 18th October. I really cannot believe that they are still taking bookings. We received a little, very flimsy, cheap brochure from them the other day, promoting their 2019/2020 cruises. We have since booked a cruise in the Carribean sailing 4th March and another one for November, finally will get to Cuba. Both with Silversea, our 6th and 7th with them. Also received their new, very elegant brochure along with Xmas card, calendar and chocolate. Scenic, you will really have to try harder!

  9. Completely agree with Dougo in Oz, Scenic are extremely cagey, we were supposed to sail on the 18th Oct. Booked at the end of May with final payment 6th June.On the 11th July we received a phone call -cancelled! Ship nowhere near finished, as is obvious. We could never get any information from anyone! Shabby outfit!

  10. I would suggest as gkhin says, hold off and even then be very sure that the ship is actually afloat and sailing with bonafide passengers. We have already been burnt, money taken, cruise cancelled six weeks later, ship not even anywhere finished!

We shall not even contemplate sailing with them, ever.🙄

I like the tone of Glen Moroney's email, it doesn't reflect the stale marketing "propaganda" we have seen previously. At least he seems to be honest about the situation. I hope that the video appears on the Scenic website soon so that everyone has a better understanding of where the construction of Eclipse 1 is at.

I have had no further news which is disappointing. Twice I have messaged Scenic with my concerns and also asked when will we hear something about the submarine as one helicopter has been delivered but no info about the sub.  I just got a standard answer about how great the ship will be.  The lack of updates is a real concern and all booked passengers should be getting a weekly update regarding the fitout. I don’t think the office has any idea unfortunately.  I have also noticed that Scenic now refer to Eclipse’s

maiden voyage as early 2019 not end of January.   We will be so disappointed if this trip is cancelled, here’s hoping all will be ok. It must be a very stressful time for the Moroney family but wish they could let us all know what they know. Surely they would not keep taking our money is they are aware of the cruise date being cancelled.

Sorry to hear that so many of you are still being kept in the dark. We should have been sailing as I write this! Cuba Cruise cancelled,as we all well know, the company still took our money up until 7weeks prior to us receiving notice that the cruise was cancelled, were informed on the 11th July, first sailing was supposed to take place on the 18th August!😳 Good luck, hope you get to take your cruise and the ship is all that it is hyped up to be.

We are going to get to sail to Cuba after all, but, on Silversea, our seventh cruise with them.😊

I am sure the Scenic Eclipse is going to be a beautiful ship.  Unfortunately after the way I was treated by Scenic over their cancellation of my cruise, I just can't support them by re-booking.  I have such wonderful, positive experiences with other luxury lines, I am taking my business elsewhere.  All the best to those who are booked on the Eclipse, I think the onbord experience will be very good.  But Scenic really needs to look carefully at its customer recovery processes, they leave much to be desired.

  14. Just to let you know, I finally was able to "close the books" on the debacle.Received the funds for "reasonable" expenses in the middle of September. Over 10 weeks since being informed of the cancellation of the cruise! I am afraid Scenic Eclipse will never see us, going back to Silversea for our 6th cruise in March.

  15. I believe Scenic knew about the problems with Croatia shipyard and still continued to negotiate with Croatia shipyard for a great construction price. If this is true Scenic is low class cruise line and only cares about money not quality. Cruisers should think twice before spending large sums of money on a low quality ship. Remember their goal is to make money not a quality ship.

Too true,I am still awaiting my additional expences refund.TA said that they had spoken to Headquarters in Australia,it would take 1 to 2 weeks!!!!!!!

  16. In the same boat as all of you. We received our full fare cruise refunded by check from Scenic. Got a 25 percent discount on a cruise we had already booked for next year.

Still waiting for hotel and airline refund. They say ours is complicated and will take more time.

Like you, we are still awaiting the airline change fee, instead of asking for refund of the Business class tickets from Europe, we are using the flight ticket to go to Miami in March and do another Silversea cruise. We were also booked on the Cuba trip for October. I do not see what is so "complicated" about our additional expenses being reimbursed. I see a lot of passengers have already received theirs.

  17. Today I received a check from Scenic for my airline ticket taxes and fees, I received three separate checks from Scenic. Cruise refund, airline ticket and airline tax and fees.

    Terrific news,still waiting for mine!🙄

  18. I have now received total 100% refund of all expenditures. Cruise, tours, travel insurance and all airfare. I did not use a travel agent and dealt directly with the Boston office which was very accommodating.

The overall disappointment I still have with Scenic with their lack of communication, time we all have set aside for our trip and effort to provide proof of reimbursement for a lousy 25% will never be acceptable.

Scenic I know you read this thread step up to the plate

Well done. Unfortunately I was forced to use a Travel Agent, by Scenic USA, I could not book directly, which I have always done in the past, due to the fact that I live in Spain. That has never caused a problem before, I book travel directly with Airlines online and Cruise company by phone and e-mail in London, always pay by C/C, this time had to make a Bank Transfer, what is that??? Still waiting for additional expense refund!

  19. We are still waiting to hear about our reimbursement for the flights. We are only claiming for a change fee on our, business class, flights from Gibraltar to Miami. They are getting off lightly, because otherwise they would have had to hand over a lot more if we were not to have done so, the tickets were Non Refundable!

  20. Just to let you know that we have now received confirmation that our flights and precruise accommodation costs have been approved and paid to our TA and who are now passing it on to us. Once we receive the airport tax and fuel duty from our cancelled flights we will have been reimbursed in full which is a relief. I think that they have not handled this process particularly well and the rebooking 25% discount is not good enough. I will think long and hard about rebooking with Scenic

    I

    Wonderful, encouraging news!

  21. Now I am getting very concerned about our cruise.

We are not volume cruisers, have only done a 16 day Silver Cloud Panama Canal and this will be a 23 day Mediterranean. These are our dream cruises. I would sure hate for this one to be a screw up.

Would have stuck with Silver Sea but reports the last few years weren't exactly glowing.

If this is a mistake I really want to know NOW!

We are getting so little information and certainly not any kind of special treatment like Silver Sea gave 10 years ago.

I would have expected a lot more from a "6 Star" cruise.

    Am I wrong?

    :eek::confused:

Going back, reviewing some posts and found yours.

Well by now you will have heard the news, our cruise is cancelled,Cuba in Depth, October sailing! We shall be going back to Siversea in March, sixth cruise!

  22. mistinguett, did you use a travel agent??? if so it is time to contact them and have them go after it for you. Our agent got us our refund mailed to us. I have a feeling that if it was not for her we would still be waiting. Be aggressive and good luck. It is your money, not theirs.

Sharon, thank you, already spoke to Boston who said that I needed to speak to my travel agent. Our situation is a little more complicated because we live in Spain and could not book directly with Scenic USA. Had to use a Travel agent that represents them here, never normally use one, but, in this case had no choice.Have been on the phone to them this afternoon and was extremely firm with them. Waiting to hear back!

  23. https://cruisepassenger.com.au/couples-100000-holiday-ruined-by-scenic-eclipse-delay/

This illustrates what we feared. I’m now thinking I may not get my independently booked flights and hotel costs now.

I was thinking before I saw this article that I probably would get what I considered “reasonable associated costs” back and that I would rebook as I didn’t want to “cut of my nose to spite my face” . Not so sure now .

If anyone does get any additional costs back please let us know

Received this reply to my query yesterday 25th,from Scenic Spain- "They have just informed us that they are processing the refund for the cruise, but it takes some days to arrive to your bank account. We appreciate if you could inform us when you have received the refund in order to close this part of the file.

In regards to the airline charges they are pending of approval, I will send you more information as soon as we receive."

Does this sound as if we shall not see the additional costs?

We were informed by telephone on the 11th July, why is it taking so long?????
