Trust me, main homeport is Hamburg, now it is Kiel….

    Thank you Saab4444.

Oddly enough, this morning I have just got this from MSC for our upcoming cruise in a few weeks,

"For cruises in the Mediterranean, Northern Europe, Antilles, Dubai, the Emirates and Oman, as well as MSC Grand Voyages departing from Europe, the onboard currency is the Euro (€). For cruises in the Caribbean, South America and South Africa, as well as MSC Grand Voyages going to Europe and to Australia, the onboard currency is the US Dollar ($).The onboard currency for MSC Virtuosa summer season cruises through October 2023 will be the British Pound (£)".

Winter cruises for Virtuosa and now Euribia were / are homeported in Hamburg, so Euro it is.

Thanks, nothing is clear when searching for a definitive answer. This came from "Travel Weekly" website,

"MSC Cruises’ incoming vessel MSC Euribia will homeport in Southampton during the winter 2023-24 season.

The LNG-powered ship, due to launch in June 2023, will be based in the UK after the line saw “huge demand” for no-fly cruises on MSC Virtuosa".

That is why I was hoping someone onboard may answer.

    Yep - Jan.'23, Virtuosa - euros.

    May/June, Virtuosa - sterling.

    Nov./Jan. '24, Euribia - euros.

On board, just means that, say, 'top' drinks package includes drinks up to £14...or 14 Euros...can still get champagne by the glass, though !

The price of drinks doesn't really concern me, I asked the question specifically to know what to take to use in the casino, (to save being ripped off with a poor exchange rate).

Usually it depends on where the ship is homeported, last sept Virtuosa was £ but know it went to euro when she went to Europe.

It totally depends where the home port is when you sail

Virtuosa home port in 2021 was Southampton, we sailed July 3rd and onboard was £ sterling. Last year we sailed in August and December, onboard was in Euros, I don't know where the home port was, obviously not the UK. The Euribia cruises out of Southampton only run for a short period and I am not sure where the home port is classed as, which is why I asked if anyone was onboard.

  5. Hi, I was hoping someone currently onboard, (or who has recently sailed on Euribia), could tell me what the onboard currency is. We  got caught out the first time on Virtuosa as it turned out to be in £ sterling. Recent Virtuosa cruises were in Euros so I am assuming that that is currently the case with Euribia. Thanks.

I don't think you are doing anything wrong.  You have about 4 months until your cruise.  I think the systems aren't going to let you do those kinds of reservations that far ahead.  Maybe try in another month when you are 90 days out.

My last cruise where we had the 1st night complimentary specialty restaurant meal due to being booked in a suite, we just called the dine line when we got on board and got a reservation for the Crown Grill.  When we arrived at dinner, the restaurant was mostly empty.  I think there were maybe 3 other couples dining.

I've never encountered specialty dining venues which were jam packed on embarkation day.  That all depends on the cruise and the cruisers.

I'd keep trying to do your reservation about once a month until you get close to your cruise, but I'd not be concerned about not being able to use your complimentary dining.  The reason that the suite dining benefit is offered on embarkation night is because the specialty venues are in less demand embarkation evening than on the rest of the cruise.

Thanks for the reply. I was following advice from other forums suggesting the restaurants could be booked once the balance is paid, which is obviously not accurate. I will wait and keep an eye on it. As mentioned, I was not expecting to book the complimentary meal until I got on board, the speciality dining that comes with the Premier package is a different issue, with the number of people who have probably opted for this I can see potential problems. It will be interesting to see what Princess do if they are unable to accommodate you with a booking.

  7. Hi, I am cruising on the May 6th cruise on Sky Princes, I was led to believe that I could go ahead and book the "speciality restaurants" once the balance had been paid, (which it has), but the app is not allowing me to do so. I am not overly impressed with the app anyway as it seems to have connection issues far too regularly, but, of course, this could well be something that I am doing wrong. My credit card is registered for the cruise. I believe that I can only book the complimentary speciality restaurant meal, (that you get if you are in a suite), once you are on board, but I am not sure when you can book the two speciality meals that come with the "premier" package. I was hoping to secure/pay for bookings as soon as possible as the cruise is to celebrate a special occasion.  Any guidance or advice would be appreciated.

Have you loaded your credit card details on to the app ?

I thought it had carried over from last year, however, I have just re-entered the details and the card has been accepted. Still no change in being able to book. Also, we have a complimentary speciality meal on the first night as we are in a suite, I think that can only be booked onboard, but does anyone know when you are able to book the two speciality meals that come with the "Premier" package?

I would still like to secure/pay for additional speciality meals, it just will not let me access the restaurant options, let alone book.

  10. Does anyone have any experience with the ocean view staterooms on deck 4 on Iona? My daughter is just about to book one for next year and she was quite taken by the "window seat" arrangement, so much so that she would really like to book a cabin that has one. She is looking to book an LB grade cabin midships. I have tried P&O cruises customer service team but they could not give a definitive answer. They said some cabins have them and some don't, unfortunately they do not have a list. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No wonder my close to minimum upgrade bid for a Window suite was accepted for our upcoming Oct 8 Discovery Princess sailing.

We were assigned S108...thanks for the heads up on the smaller size of S108 as I would have been expecting S107 layout based on the youtube videos.  As best I can tell, S108 has two less front window panes than S107 in the bedroom.  If each window pane is 1.5 ft wide, then we would lose 3 ft.  If each window pane is 2 ft wide, then we would lose 4 ft.

But I can't complain too much as I get a full suite for probably close to half of what I would have paid for this suite if booked up front.

And I'll report back on any noise issues from Sanctuary.

I have changed my room after Princess agreed and kindly allowed me to "downgrade" to a mini suite. There is a short video of S108 on YT, search for  "Sky Princess ocean view suite S108 on sundeck". As you say, it is a full suite, and the benefits are great so I am sure you will enjoy yourselves and have a great time. We were doing it to celebrate our 48th wedding anniversary and as S107 really impressed us I booked S108, and, whereas I am sure S108 is fine, it is not the same and it does not have the same "wow" factor, (for us). I intend to book the S107 on an early cruise next year. Hope you enjoy your trip.

There is a 1-2 foot width difference between S107 and S 108. S107 being wider. This difference is enough to have the beds position differently. S107 faces from of ship, S108 is orthogonal to front.

It is a lot more than 1 or 2 feet. S107 has the width of the bed, two side cabinets and good space in between the wall/cabinets/bed against the bathroom wall, in S108 the bed is lengthways against the bathroom wall and still sticks out some way at the end of the wall, (and the beds are only about 150mm/6 inches longer than the width, I have one at home).

The booking will be changed today, I liked the look of S107, I do not like S108, just glad I noticed it now.

I don't think there are many loungers in the very front area.

I did a check on a You Tube walkthrough and they are all around the front. No longer going to be an issue though as I booked S108 yesterday and it will be cancelled tomorrow. S108 is VERY different to the video I saw of S107. This is down to the accessible O6 ocean view cabin next to it, S106, taking considerable floor space from the S18 window suite. None of this is shown on the deck plan, I just looked into it after being surprised by the differences in S107 and S108 videos. I do not know why, unlike other cruise lines, Princess do not show accurate indication of stateroom sizes, the accessible cabin, S106, is considerably wider than the other O6 cabins that are adjacent yet the deck plan shows them all the same size.

  14. Hi, does anyone have any experience of the S7 Window suites on Sky Princess? I see that they are directly under the "Sanctuary", (which I appreciate is referred to as a "quieter area"), but I would imagine there is the potential for the sun loungers (etc) to cause disturbance to the staterooms on deck 17, especially earlier in the morning when being set up. I have made the mistake on a previous cruise of being under the pool deck, although I am hopeful the smaller "sanctuary area would not be such an issue. Any guidance would be appreciated.

  15. Hi does anybody know, (I would prefer it not to be guesses), what the onboard currency is going to be for the MSC Virtuosa cruises departing from Southampton this summer? Last August I was expecting it to be Euros and took plenty with me, (for casino etc), it turned out to be British Pounds sterling. I am fully aware that you can charge to your account or withdraw money against a card, however, that only benefits the cruise company and card provider as the exchange rates are heavily weighed against you, it can work out very expensive.

  16. I have read many earlier threads regarding the "bed position", (close to the bathroom or balcony), on Anthem of the Seas. Some of the information is contradictory so I was wondering if anyone on here had actually stayed in stateroom 10650 and, if so, is the bed near the balcony doors or the bathroom/corridor end of the room?

    Thanks.

  17. Magsmfc, I would say it is a very good price and it does include the gratuities. I have ended up paying a lot more than this in the past so I was extremely pleased, (and surprised), to see it. I have been led to believe that both guests in the stateroom have to purchase it, this was sort of confirmed when I was purchasing yesterday, if you click on one guest, both are then selected. We are Diamond level and would get 4 drinks a day anyway, but at this price it is so much more convenient for all of the drink options, not just the alcohol. Their bar prices are bad enough but when you add the gratuity it gets rather silly.
