  1. We went on I suspect the same cruise in 2012 from LA to Catalina and Ensenada.Immigration officials where onboard before we docked in Mexico we passed a small room as we disembarked where they where checking and stamping passports which had been collected onboard the previous day and where returned to us that morning we then just walked off the ship to our shore excursion. We did not require any visas.

Thank you so much. We are doing the 3 day cruise, without Catalina.

What shore excursion did you do in Ensenada? I'm still tossing up what to do there.

  2. Re visas: I too have been trying to find out about this as I'm doing a Carnival cruise to Ensenada and don't want to be caught out not having the right documentation. I asked Smartraveller and this was their response:

There will be immigration officers at the port, and you need to make sure that they stamp your passport. There have been problems with travellers entering Mexico without getting a stamp. It makes departure difficult. ST

Do you think they mean immigration at the port in LA or Mexico? I've never been through immigration when you arrive in ports, just swipe off the ship and off you go.

  3. I got another response from Smarttraveller:

There will be immigration officers at the port, and you need to make sure that they stamp your passport. There have been problems with travellers entering Mexico without getting a stamp. It makes departure difficult. ST

    Anyone else had this?

    The port is Ensanada.

  4. I just messaged Smartraveller to ask them and got a reply about entering by land or air even though I specifically said cruise ship. So I've messaged back and will wait for a reply.

Correct me if I'm wrong, on port days, when getting off the ship (any ship, any port) you swipe your cruise card on the way out and off you go. There's isn't usually any sort of immigration to be done is there? It's been a while since I've cruised but I don't remember doing anything like that.
