I don't know if this has been brought up in this thread or not. I have been charged an annual fee every year. Last month I got the annual letter that says they are charging me the annual fee and I will see it on my next bill. .
I would call again as this card has no annual fee. You might want to refer whomever you speak with to their own website which clearly shows this:

Annual Fee:$0
