  1. Since you’re not getting any feedback...

We will be there next month and several on the boards have advised using the Beat - Ride app, which is supposed to work like Uber. The reviews are good so I downloaded and plan to use during our port day.

  2. First, let me say thank you for the times be effort you put into providing information on this topic.

While I’m sure I understand what is not allowed, do you have a recommendation on an item than would be allowed that would increase the number of outlets available. I don’t believe I’ve seen that info provided.

I have a multi-USB port but that will take up one of the rare plugs available.

  3. The bus starts in Oia. The taxi stand is immediately next to the bus stop. We walked up, saw the next bus was still about 25 minutes. There was a taxi sitting there. We jumped in the cab. It was 20 euros, but that was a number of years ago.

I would suggest you be as flexible. The line might be short. Maybe no line, depends on when you are attempting to return.

Agreed! Just want to be prepared.

  4. At this point, I think our plan is to take the boat to Oia upon arrival in September. I know the ticket includes a bus ride back, but after reading these boards, I’m pretty sure we don’t want to fight the crowds to catch the bus back. Not worth it.

Can anyone give an estimate of the availability and cost for a taxi back? While money is not really an issue, I’d like to be prepared.

  5. We will be arriving in Messina on 9/19 with a scheduled docked time of 11A - 8P. I’d really like to do a private, or very small group, trip to the summit of Mt Etna but not finding a lot of your providers.

We are, of course, not opposed to other stops. Suggestions welcome.

  6. Our ship is scheduled to dock at 5 AM at the end of our cruise in September. We want to take the train to Venice upon debarkation. The train options from Civitavecchi are limited with a late arrival. However, the options out of Rome are much better.

As a result, I need to figure out what time to plan for the train. Three questions...

    1) If docking is at 5 AM, what time should I plan our transfer to leave the port?

    2) How long is the trip to the train station in Rome?

    3) Would it be safe to book a 10:45 or 11:50 AM?

  7. Considering traveling to Venice for a few days post cruise and looking for recommendations regarding transfer. I have seen options for car, flight and train. Money isn't as big an issue and best utilization of time.

As this is a bucket list trip, I do want to stay on a canal.

  8. We are walkers and tend to walk miles while traveling. So walking is not an issue. We do tend to prefer private tours and do not want to be herded like cats or have our time dictated by a bus schedule, etc. I also like to stop and take 'off the cuff' photos of anything that might catch my eye.

Reading the board, it seems that there are a few places we could go/stop (some mentioned by sherryf), if time allows. That would not be possible on a bus ride. I'd also read that renting s car was somewhat comparable in cost to cab fare, especially If making multiple stops.

I will look up Avis at the Goldbelt. Once I see where it is and get pricing we will determine if that is the right method of travel for us.

Thank you to those of you responding with relevant info and simply not judging. [emoji6]

  9. Considering renting a car to do our own thing in Juneau but when I search for cars on Expedia, it only shows rentals at the airport. However, I've seen several post about renting cars in port, there has to be a close location.

Please advise which agency had a pier location, if known.

  10. We have one scheduled in September, as well. I had seriously considered canceling but have decided to go. While money is not an issue for us, I do want to know I'm getting my money's worth. The online reviews and videos convinced me of that.

I was also concerned, since our flight is right smack dab in the middle of our port time, that it would limit our opportunity to enjoy a little time in town. It looks so picturesque and I have a photo addition. People on this board convinced me that we will still have some time to walk Creek Street. As we are not shoppers, it is just for the exposure, take in the beauty of the town, type of visit so I'm hoping we can pull it all off.

We travel a lot but do feel it is a once in a lifetime experience. But, then again, we try to treat every vacation that way.

  11. Has anyone used them for a general area tour?

We really just want a leisurely day in Juneau but would like to get a local's prospective along w/ area history and a trip to Mendenhall Glacier. We have plenty of activities planned the remainder of the cruise so I was looking for something a little more low key.

We will be in port from 1 PM to 10 PM mid-September.

  12. Have you checked the Canada/ Alaska/Pacific Coastal board? There are lots of great suggestions for Vancouver there.

Where might one locate this board?

  13. vtx, hope you are on the September 13th sailing because I booked 5190 yesterday for the September 20th departure.

Ha! We are on the Sep 13th sailing. We originally had an aft cabin on deck 8 but I got the hankering to upgrade since this trip is to celebrate our 15th anniversary and my 50th birthday.

When I found out there were still 3 aft wrap cabins open, I was stunned and excited. It took forever to change our booking and I think I lost $300 in onboard credits but don't care at this point. The countdown is on.

  14. We have a 2 hour Misty Fjords flight-seeing tour with Island Wings while in port. However, the timing isn't ideal. Our port time is 10A - 6P. The flight is at Noon which leaves 1 3/4 hours pre-flight and 3+ hours post flight.

Recommendations for before and after? Would love to get some pictures and walk around Creek Street and town in general. Is that enough time?

Those of you that have been there, do you have a suggestion to utilize the pre-flight time? At some point, I supposed we will want to eat.
