I booked casino offer for Aug 1 Horizon, but buying the alcohol package as I want a drink anywhere and not just the casino 🙂 It was an amazing price for balcony. Last trip I was havana, this time just took regular TBA Balcony as I didn't see the rest of the ship since I stayed in Havana and casino last trip.

This is a terrible rule to implement after a booking has been paid in full. Example - the 9/30 sailing final payment (penalty period) was this past Sunday. 23 friends are discussing arrangements, shows etc. and haven't completed the cruise personalizer - to include the purchasing of spa/alcohol packages, etc. In one cabin, the wife doesn't drink - noting that this family has 3 cabins (two with children) and could have put themselves separately with a child in order to allow the husband to buy his own drink package and not force the wife into buying one. You think now they will change names on the cabins in order to allow the husband to buy a package? Should have been notified in advance and/or implemented before final payment date. Have another wife just recently had gastric surgery - she won't need an alcohol package, and now the husband will need to buy two packages or not buy it at all. This family also had 2 cabins and could have arranged names differently so they could have been accommodated.

I too am searching for this answer.

Just back two weeks ago from MSC Poesia - Europe where I purchased the UBP. I felt it was a really good deal upon purchase...166 euro for 7 days - you do the math to see it is much less than NCL and included a nice variety of drinks (I like the fruity cocktails and anything I asked for was always included), bottled waters, specialty coffees and fresh juices. Like many of you, I kept up with my receipts to compare at the end of the week. I also tried to "get my money worth" and even ordered doubles at times. At the end of the week - we figured we came out about $100 ahead by pre-paying for the package. In addition, if you pre-ordered your package, you didn't have the 15% added on. So, we may not have came out so well if we would have purchased it on board.

I loved not worrying about what my bill would be at the end of the week. Instead, my obsession became with making sure I didn't lose money on that package...adding receipts once a day!

Will I purchase for my upcoming Breakaway cruise? Nope! I will take a bar set-up though!
