And if you are D+, the CL was much less crowded than the D lounge was.

    Have a great trip!

Not to hijack this thread, but if you were in the D+ lounge on saturday night (final night of the cruise) did you get a load of the middle-aged couple who came in with bare feet wearing robes over heir swimsuits?  It was especially pleasing to see the husband (?) selecting items from the buffet forgo the use of the tongs provided and grabbing them with his unwashed hands. 🤮

  2. Thanks for all the replies!

I am flying in from Rochester NY (1 hour flight) so delays shouldn't be an issue. I agree that an earlier flight would be preferable but at the time I booked the flights I didn't realize Anthem left at 3:00 PM; more used to 5:00 or 6:00. Live and learn.

Do you feel I will have any problem getting a taxi to the pier?

    Thanks guys!

  3. Quick question: Though I have been on many cruises, I'm taking my first cruise out of New Jersey this November. I am flying into Newark (EWR) and landing at about noon. The itinerary for the Anthem says that "all aboard" is at 2:00PM, though the ship doesn't depart until 3:00PM.

Will I have enough time to get a taxi from EWR and make it to the ship by 2:00? Any experiences/opinions you can share?

    Thanks in advance!

  4. When people feel that their personal opinions aren't sufficient to prevail for them, they'll often seek scurrilous rhetorical tricks to try to make those opinions seem more important than they are. What you're referring to can be thought of as a way to demean any variance from what the person voicing the concern considers acceptable - effectively an attempt to rhetorically mentally link (for example) wearing a rolled collar shirt and designer bluejeans with wearing a tank top, cut-off shorts and a baseball cap. For extra measure, I've sometimes seen reference made to turning the cap around, perhaps an insidious attempt at linking variance from what the person voicing the concern considers acceptable to even more nefarious character traits.

Wow! Someone gave their thesaurus a workout! Would you mind repeating that in English please? :D

  5. Third, the MDR is overrated. It's easy to conclude from cruise critic that the only reason to cruise is to enjoy the MDR. You can have a wonderful cruise without ever entering the MDR. It's loud, it's crowded, and dinner takes too long. Who wants to spend two hours at dinner? We dine there infrequently because we find the buffet to offer more choices in a more relaxed environment.

Windjammer = MDR without the pretension. Skip the MDR - the food is practically the same in the Windjammer and you can take as little or as much time as you like.

  6. I completely understand where you are coming from, but I completely have to disagree.

Point taken about Suite vs. Non Suite... However what if we were talking about a Pinnacle Member (who basically get Suite Perks even when staying in an inside cabin). They would have paid significantly less then myself but still get the same perks!

So while you are correct in the aspect the RCCL can and will do what they want... The OP should ONLY receive what perks they are entitled to when they started the cruise NOT what the next level is (even if only 1 Cruise Day away)!

Except for the fact that the Pinnacle member has likely spent much more money(over time) to reach that lofty status. The amount paid for a suite on a 7-day cruise pales in comparison to what the Pinnacle member has spent. You would have to agree that they have earned and deserve whatever perks they are entitled to.

As to your second point, by the letter of the law you are correct. and I agree. But to my way of thinking, getting afforded the extra cruise credit in advance is a lot more "fair" than getting, say, a complimentary upgrade to a suite. The cruise credit day has technically not been earned yet, but it will be in a week or two. The suite on the other hand is an outright gift from RCI, neither paid for nor earned.

  7. First Tobey thanks for your response... That being said I have quoted my original comments regarding this particular thread. The rules are in place for a reason. While I am not cruising with the OP, yes that is exactly what can happen if EVERYONE who was 1 cruise day away from gaining the next level.

Again I will defer to us cruising in a GS. Should you be afforded the same perks as myself if you are not in a Suite?

Points taken. However, hear me out:

    1. In reality, how many people on a given cruise will be "1 cruise day away" from D+? I'd bet less than a handful. The Concierge is fully aware how many CL-eligible cruisers are on board. If he makes a determination that he can afford a concession or two, isn't that up to him?

    2. Staying in a non-suite vs. GS and receiving the subsequent perks is a specious analogy at best, as it is doubtful RCI would extend suite benefits as a concession to anyone. The Suite passenger has paid significantly more money for his stateroom, and is thus deserving of the accompanying perks. A passenger with 174 cruise credits (1 short of D+) plus an additional day or two on the current cruise has already proven his loyalty. If RCI chooses to offer him a perk or two it is really up to them.

  8. I feel the same as MAlagich. Rules are rules, without them we are just savages.

"Savages" - wow. I didn't realize how precious DL and CL exclusivity are to some people.

I'll make sure to turn off all the lights in my stateroom before leaving for dinner lest I be branded a "savage".

  9. Go ahead and do what you would like (because you have already made your mind up), but I'm hoping the Concierge tells you ABSOLUTELY NOT!

I am curious as to why you feel this way. Are you going to be on the same sailing as the OP? Will he/she be taking something away from you personally if the Concierge grants his request? Who is being hurt if the Concierge chooses to extend a courtesy to a loyal passenger?

  10. I bet you belong to the "It's my vacation and I'll do what I damm well please anytime or anyplace I damm well please and if you don't like it tough ...t" club. Think membership is growing.

Just make sure they are "nice" gym shorts, sneakers, wife beater tee, Yankees hat.

This really is a sad reply. Why the hostility? Why the exaggerated hyperbole? I was on the Harmony two weeks ago and ate in 150 Central Park twice and Wonderland once. I did not (nor was I required to) wear a suit and tie to dinner, and in fact did wear shorts and sneakers (sans the "wife beater tee") one night in 150. No one said a word, and the service and food were great.

Mind you, I did not plan on wearing shorts, but I was allowed to do so by the greeter at the door. No harm, no foul.

Take it easy on the superlatives. No one is required to wear formal wear if they choose not to. RCI doesn't care, so what right does a passenger have to foist his viewpoint on fellow cruisers?

  11. I just read a review that stated Harmony did not supply guests with shampoo or conditioner. Is this true? We leave tomorrow!

Patently false. On the Harmony last week and shampoo, conditioner, and lotion were supplied. In suites you get the "better" stuff, but interestingly my wife didn't like the upgraded shampoo and asked for the type given in standard staterooms.

  12. Dined at 150 Central Park last week wearing khaki shorts and a polo. Wasn't my preferred wear, but not a word was said. Of course, it was the first night of the cruise...

Later that week I again dined at 150 and wore khaki pants and a polo - perfectly acceptable. I was waiting for folks to come in in tuxes and gowns but it never happened. It seems to me that most people don't want to wear formal clothes when they are on vacation, and that's their choice.

The meals were fantastic, by the way!
