The difference would be if the bed is by the balcony or lavatory.   Also if the head of the bed is towards the front of the ship or the rear.   The later may affect those with motion issues that have a problem with the way they are moving when laying down.

The cabin may have an obstructed view, be too far from the stairs or elevators, be near a public area, or have one above or below.    Other differences would be the deck level and location that affect the movement in the cabin.

The cabin may also be close to a smoking area.   Depending on your preference.

Some cabins in the same category also have larger balconies.

Yep, you got some of the reasons in there!  Tho, I hadn't even thought about the smoking area.  While we don't get motion sick, I do get migraines from smoke.  Guess I should figure that out.

Since this is a new booking you also might want to contact a couple TAs to see if they have group fares.  Then switch and transfer at the same time.

There is a website where you can list your cruise and have TAs Compete for your business.  Usually a saving of about 5-8%.

Thanks- I did not know that about TAs bidding for my business!

Yes did this recently as I wanted the bed in the middle of the room which I didn’t know when I booked.  I called after doing a “fake booking” so I had a sense of what I wanted and what was available.  I had no issues switching.

Thanks so much.  I have been doing "fake bookings" as well.

  4. We hurriedly booked our cruise a week ago (long story) and now that I have had more time, I did more research.  I found a YouTube walk-through of what I think our cabin will look like (exact cabin and floor on Edge vs. Ascent) and am not happy with the cabin I selected..  Has anyone had luck with switching to a different cabin and if so, how did you initiate the switch?  I booked directly with Celebrity.  Thanks!
