  1. Is this cruise soon? I ask because the cruise line has to submit a manifest to DHS a few days prior to the cruise for review and has had to for years now. That policy isn't new.

In a month. It's really strange cause I almost always wait till last minute to do the set sail and I'm so glad I did it early this cruise. The email came like a day or two after I completed it, it's like they got the new info and they ran it immediately. The new info being they now *require* middle names when you register, when before it was optional.

The agent we talked to at Royal said it was a new policy they just started last year and they've already revised it a few times.

I am not the ex-con in question tho I think it's cute I'm already being chastised for not obeying the law. I'm so squeaky clean, I don't even get traffic tickets. The ex-con in question? Personally, I think he got shafted by the system. Laws aren't always cut and dry or applied/interpreted evenly or are fair or right. But I'm getting into an area I said I wasn't going to in my first post.

  2. No, this is something they just started doing last March or April. This isn't about if someone has a warrant out or is violating their parole or probation.

This is about if you did something 15 years ago and have been a good citizen since you got out of jail, completed all your community service requirements and have completed your probation years ago and RC digs it up and now they want to talk to you about it. This is especially about if you're listed in the sex offender registry no matter what your offense was.

Perhaps deferred adjudication varies from state to state but in Texas, it's viewed the same as a guilty plea. It shouldn't be I know, but it is.

  3. Be forewarned if you have any sort of criminal conviction or deferred adjudication on record. Royal Caribbean is running background checks on all prospective passengers and will deny boarding if one does not answer their questions or if they are not satisfied with the answers. They don't factor in if you've previously cruised with them and are an Emerald or Diamond member either.

I don't know if they're looking at all felonies/misdemeanors or mainly targeting people listed in the sex offender registry. My advice is to complete your set sail pass well in advance so you're not surprised by this a few days before your cruise. Get your attorney involved if you have one. Possibly contact RC about your background before they contact you about it to show good faith.

This is not meant for people who think registered sex offenders should never be allowed on a cruise ship. I'm aware many people are ignorant about such matters and prone to hysteria so I expect this thread to turn into a flame fest and I probably won't return to it.

  4. A couple days ago I got a marketing call from Carnival. Guy said, hey I saw you visited the website recently! (perhaps a month ago but now I know why they won't let you access unless you register and sign in). Said can I help you plan your next vacation?

I said well, I already have 2 cruises booked this year with Royal Caribbean. I think I took a bit too much satisfaction telling him that :D
