  1. For our next cruise (Aug 2015 Alaska) we will have reached the platinum level, and as I understand it this will entitle us to a few free Internet minutes. What will we need to do on-board to enroll and activate these minutes? Thanks for any information.

  2. From the princess website:

The luxurious Mini-Suite offers approximately 323 square feet of comfort and a separate seating area with a sofa bed for lounging or sleeping a third passenger. The spacious balcony is approximately 57 square feet and the bathroom offers a combination tub and shower. Some Mini-Suites also have a pullman bed to accommodate a 4th passenger.

These features and fine amenities are standard in a Mini-Suite stateroom:

    • Welcome glass of champagne
    • Separate seating area with a sofabed
    • Balcony with patio furniture
    • Twin beds that convert to a queen-size bed*
    • Evening bed turn-down, chocolates on your pillow
    • Two flat-panel televisions

    • Private bathroom with combination tub and shower
    • Shampoo, conditioner, body lotion
    • 100% Egyptian cotton linens
    • Satellite TV, refrigerator, hair dryer, safe, closet, phone and desk
    • 110-volt, 60-cycle alternating current (AC) with standard U.S. plug fittings
    • Daily housekeeping service

We were in a mini-suite on the Grand Princess and really like the extra space. Did receive a "glass" of champagne for sail-away. That was the only "perk" besides the extra space in the cabin. I did a video of our cabin (E725) if you would like to see it.

  3. Any meal that I don't have to cook ... (sorry couldn't resist).

My husband is a major fan of escargot on the cruise. I've never tried it. I agree, food is subjective depending on someone's likes and dislikes.

My mom's favorite was the cold soups served on a cruise.

My sister's favorite was the seafood especially salmon.

Last cruise I had the BEST tempura veggies/shrimp served in the main dining room that I had ever eaten.

You are going to have so many choices and many favorites I'm sure.

  4. Hello just booked and have room e730 it had just opened up and we are on the wait list number 6 for caribe c752 and c753. they gave me an option to upgrade to mini suite. not sure what to do ? is e730 good and any comments noise vista? thank you

I don't think E730 is a mini-suite though. I thought it was a regular balcony cabin with aft facing view.

Here's a link about the cabin ... off to an app so didn't have time to do more research for you:

  5. We LOVE the Emerald Deck minis with their covered balconies. Had one on the Grand (E725) and one booked for the Ruby in August. Great location. Yes, a bit further to walk it seems at times but since we are out and about it really isn't that much further. I have hip issues so am a slower walker than most, but I did fine on the Grand. I'm not expecting it to be any different on the Ruby.

We love the AFT of the ship. Before booking the Ruby mini, I did LOTS of research on the cabins and the noise levels. On the Grand we didn't have any issues being above Club Fusion on the Starboard side. When I researched I found comments (like those above) that stated that BOTH sides of the Emerald Deck above Club Fusion for the Ruby Princess was quiet.

Completely covered balconies are important to us when we book. I like being somewhat shaded from the sun and also like that in Alaska if it rained it gave us some protection from the rain when we were out on the balcony. We spent a great deal of time out on the balcony as well as out on the decks seeing the magnificent scenery. We didn't want to miss a thing.

  6. It turned out to be quite simple to sort out. I rang them and they confirmed the price drop and repriced my booking immediately. Was really pleased there was no hassle involved.

    Fantastic!!!!!!

Do these price fluctuations happen often? It wouldn't normally have occurred to me to check except that I was checking the price of a similar cruisetour. I wonder if Princess would have recosted it automatically - I doubt it!- but I am pleased it was so easy to fix.

We had one cruise to Mexico on the Mariner of the Seas that every time we turned around they were dropping the prices. Our TA was on top of it and got us the better deals each time. At one point we joked that if they dropped it any more, they would be paying us to cruise. Some were just lowered pricing, some was special pricing for past cruisers, one was a senior discount, and one was for a resident (state) discount.

I check pricing daily. It only takes a couple of minutes and is worth it. That's how I caught the huge drop in our pricing for Alaska.

When I check pricing I always make sure I'm signed into Princess. That way I know they see the state, past cruiser, senior status that can all impact the rates.

  7. Only in the names of people actually on the ship.

But one can also purchase FCCs if onboard for a Bon Voyage Experience (BVE) that is offered in some embarkation ports. If the others you are talking about live in a USA embarkation port that offers the BVE, they can obtain them that way.

Perfect .... that is why I was asking. Have friends who are planning a vacation/cruise next summer. They are close to a port so was going to recommend they do the BVE if possible and get the FCC. Their college age son travels with them, so if they want to include him on the FCC he will need to go to the BVE also.

Thank you so much. Very helpful information.

  8. Also, if you like cruising Princess, get more than one FCC in each name. You never know when you want to have more than one future cruise booked at a time.

Thank you so much for the help and information. We will get FCCs when we cruise in August.

    One last question:

Are we allowed to purchase a FCC and put it in another person's name or only our own as we are the ones on the cruise?

  9. What does "BVE" mean?

    ~~TIA~~

Here's some more info for you:

The Bon Voyage Experience is an innovative new program harkening back to the nostalgic tradition from the early days of cruising, allowing guests the opportunity to invite family and friends aboard your ship on embarkation day. The program's new twist also allows cruisers new to Princess to see the inside of a Princess ship and experience the excitement of cruising first-hand -- even if they're not affiliated with booked guests.

Guests will spend up to four hours onboard before the ship sets sail, where they'll enjoy a four-course dining room lunch (including wine), a guided ship tour, and a souvenir photo! Plus, the $39 per person cost of the program can be applied toward a future cruise with Princess. Only 50 guests are able to participate in the Bon Voyage Experience on any given embarkation day, so make sure you make your reservations soon!

To learn more about Bon Voyage Experience reservations and availability near you, please contact your Travel Consultant or call 1-800-PRINCESS (1-800-774-6237) as long as it is not within 7 days of sailing.

  10. I don't totally understand the FCC ... can you give me more specifics.

Here's what I have so far:

    1. $100 per person

    2. Purchase on board only.

    3. Used for future cruises - will act as the deposit for the cabin UNLESS a world cruise then you pay a %.

    4. Gives some type of ship board credit (but I didn't see amount).

    5. Valid for two years - can be extended if needed.

Is the FCC good for the deposit for any type of cabin including a suite? Example: We have suite booked for next year. Our deposit was $400. If I had used a FCC for each of us at the time of booking, our deposit would of been covered by the two FCCs.

What is the amount of the ship board credit?

What happens to the FCC if we have to cancel the cruise for any reason? Is it given back to us?

    Am I missing anything?

    Thanks.

  11. Has anyone ever purchased this insurance and what do you think of it ?

When I compared to other insurance companies, found Princess prices higher for lower coverage amounts, but they do include a cancel for any reason which provides a future cruise credit. This is why I'm considering it, as I may have a work related issue that may force me to cancel with very little advance notice. As Platinum Captain Club members, we will receive the higher Platinum coverage at the Standard rates.

All suggestions and responses greatly appreciated, as Final Payment is now due and I must decide by then.

    Thanks,

We get trip insurance through "insure my trip" on-line. They offer many options including 1. cancel for any reason and 2. cancel for work related reasons in addition to the standard reasons for cancellations. We felt we also got MUCH better coverage through insure my trip.

We always get the cancel for work related reasons because of my husband's work. They have been a great company to work with. We had a medical emergency a few years ago 2 days before our cruise so had to cancel. Refunding our money was quick and easy (about 2 weeks) after we submitted the signed paperwork for our claim.

The cancel for any reason can be a costly insurance .... cancel or work related I think added about $50 to our policy cost.

  12. There are a couple of reviews of L106 on this page:

    http://www.cruisecritic.com/cabinguru/deckplanreviews.cfm?ShipID=443&category=PS

    Here's what they say:

L106 Western Caribbean, family fun in a suite by TahjmansMum

L106 is a suite. Not very big, think all the square footage is on the balcony. No light on balcony as by the bridge. Noisy door to outside bangs if someone goes outside and let's it slam shut and room shakes! Toilet and bathroom very close to bed, just a few feet away. Two TV's were handy. L106 Return to Ruby Princess by sidari

PS Suite L106 is at the end of the Portside Hallway just before the door which leads to the Bridge deck, generally quiet location apart from when leaving ports as people go in and out to the Bridge deck. This Suite has great views due to having a longer than normal Balcony due to its position behind the Bridge, being at the Front of the ship it can sometimes get quite windy though there are many times when you can sit outside while at sea. There are also good views into the Bridge wing when the ship docks on the Port side. A minor downside was the External door to the Bridge deck banging when people went in or out.
