  1. Can you tell me the hotel and shuttle names. I'm booked at the Ramada Inn Miami North for pre-cruise, but need something for a one night stay between our (almost) back-to-back cruise. Any recommendations?

Are you trying to get info related to having/not having your kids car seat? We're at the LaQuinta Inn MIA East and using Super Shuttle.

  2. UPDATE:

Just called our Miami area hotel and their shuttle is not compatible for installation of a toddler car seat. They said the child can ride the 1 MILE to the hotel on a lap and they will be happy to stow the seat for us. Glad I wasn't planning on taking it anyway! As far as transfers from hotel to the port and back to airport...our reserved shuttle service will provide a car seat for us, and we've booked excursions not requiring one. And...GO!!

  3. Ahhhh I had a car seat question and read through the entire thread. I am still confused.

We have never cruised with our kids....

They are 7 and 8 and in canada they do need to be in booster seats at their age/weight.

Opinions welcome on what we should do? We do not plan to stay on teh ship in port - or 'walk' near by. We want to taxi, bus - whatever we can around the beautifu islands.

Torn between bringing our booster seats or not?

    Thanks

PS. Shame on those of you being so rude....sorry we are all not as perfect as you are.

    Hi, I'm the OP!

I wish you the best of luck with your question. Apparently, the car seat/booster topic is just about divided as democrats vs republicans or more so "bad parent" and "good parent"...at least that's how some view it! I've made my decision and am now just sitting back reading the posts. Have a wonderful cruise:)

  4. This response was great! Can't wait to read your review. I had no idea the car seat debate was so divided...as bad as the smoking threads here. I have no children and find the rules about car seats nonsensical so have not followed this apparently highly controversial topic.

LOL! ;) Just watch for my review titled:

Carnival Liberty 9/2013: Two irresponsible, bad, cheap, uncaring parents and their choice to NOT take a car seat.

  5. If you have already decided "not to take it" then why come here for any "reassurance".

I'm not coming here asking for advice on IF we should take it! Yes, I've already decided to not take it because we will not need it at any of the ports during the cruise. We've booked a shuttle that provides car seats for our transfer to the Port and back to the airport. The only thing I wanted to hear about was anyone who had used an airport-hotel shuttle and what their experience was when they didn't bring one. If the hotel shuttle won't provide us service (and I'm sure you're hoping they don't ) then I'll need to have our reserved shuttle company pick us up at the airport too. BIG WHOOP!

I can't wait till I'm back and write my review with tips for all the parents who DON'T bring seats! :p And I appreciate the advice I've gotten so far! Those of you who do bring seats?...AWESOME! You can provide tips too! Obviously, this topic takes up a lot of parents time on CC.

  6. Like I mentioned earlier, I've never flown with DD's car seat and I probably never will. Even though she can't fly in my lap any longer, I wouldn't use a car seat--I might use a CARES harness, but not her car seat. On her past trips we were fortunate to have family/friends at all but 1 destination. At that one destination we got a carseat with our rental car---gasp. We would do the same thing in the future too--let the bashing begin.

I also don't see us ever taking a car seat on a cruise. Like I mentioned earlier we usually don't get off be ship or stay in walking distance to it.

To the OP, I travel weekly for work and have seen many children on hotel shuttles--none of them ever in car seats. Since I live in FL I haven't taken those shuttles here.

    :D Thanks for the reassurance!

  7. Geez... some people are just know it all's... she was simply asking for suggestions or past experiences, not someone to bash her parenting

Thank you! By the way, I saw your little cutie this morning when reviewing the boards. What an angel :)

Yeah, I'm not even gonna respond to my parenting being bashed...bleh! Bottom line, I was just hoping that someone else had used an airport shuttle and could provide advice on a similar situation .

I doubt EVERY family books a private shuttle from airport-hotel-port-airport, or rents a car, or has family in the area...etc. I'd love to see a family with 4+ kids trekking thru the airport with 4+ car seats. Forget TWINS! I'll check in with the hotels we're looking at.

  8. In Florida it is illegal to drive with an unrestrained child in any type of vehicle except a heavy duty urban transit bus or motorcoach.

Yes, you could (and hopefully will!) be denied boarding. (well, thank you!)

The hotel shuttle will either be a van or minibus, no hotels use buses that are large enough to not require a properly restrained child. Won't you need the car seat for them to sit in on the plane? The lap belt is not enough to restrain a two year old.

NO, we will not be using one on the plane! DS is traveling as a "lap infant". I know I'm not the only parent who has had to deal with this. And I know there are scads of board debates on the car seat/no car seat issue. Obviously some people think EVERYONE takes their kids seats! I'd like to see a family with 4+ kids managing all the seats HAHA, or even better a single parent with multiple kids...yeah right!

  9. We've decided to not take my 22mo old DS's car seat on our 9-21-13 cruise.

If the hotel shuttle is a mini bus, I know it won't be a problem, but if it's a "van" will we be denied a transfer to our hotel?

Anyone else in the same boat? :D (lol) Any suggestions? This is our only concern, as we have booked a shuttle service (with car seats) to the port.

  10. I had no problem going topless on my 04 Majesty cruise. My DH and I were a ways down the beach but there were still people around. Heck, you'll never see any of them again. If you get "reprimanded" by a RCCL crew member just play dumb. I never had a problem though. Go for it!!:D
