  1. Yes, I saw that but it doesn’t make sense which is why I’m asking. Looks like someone cut and pasted the river information to the ocean side.

I can’t imagine an ocean cruise ship having 22” doorways in public spaces. It just doesn’t make sense and I’m asking if anyone can confirm what the passageways are like on the ocean ships.

It is stated in the general FAQ section on the website which covers all Viking cruises.  'Wheelchairs must not exceed 22" in width. For details regarding bringing a wheelchair on board, guests must complete the Accessibility Form and return to Viking no later than 30 days prior to departure.'

Yes, thanks. I read that as stated in my OP.

22" is not a realistic width for an ocean ship, hence my question.

  3. Sailing on Jupiter this summer. I see the website indicates that wheelchairs cannot exceed 22", which is very narrow.

Does anyone know if that 22" statement is meant for river cruises or ocean cruises as well?

I can't imagine an ocean ship having narrow doorways around the ship for passengers that a normal (26"-32") wheelchair wouldn't fit through.

We are booked into an accessible cabin and the doorway looks plenty wide.

    Thanks!

  4. We are considering a 7 night Poesia cruise in a B3 Aurea cabin with the following itinerary:

    • Warnemunde
    • St Petersburg
    • Tallinn
    • Stockholm
    • Copenhagen
    • Warnemunde

Anything I should be aware of? Read the reviews and some stuff seems hit or miss, but we have a credit from last year that we need to use and this seems to work best for us. Just trying to find out if there are any major red flags for this ship or itinerary.

    Thanks!

Was the cruise you cancelled for a Caribbean? Was the cruise you cancelled in the YC? This tells me that

    a) YC in the caribbean is selling well

    b) the Med is selling better than the Caribbean for MSC

    c) Msc has no idea what they are doing.

Niko and Sid: I truly feel for you. It's BS that MSC can't make a blanket policy to cover you also.

i was booked on a Mediterranean cruise in balcony. I have no idea where the Caribbean restriction came from - it’s very odd. And the YC restriction is just greedy - I’m obviously going to spend more on a cabin to be in YC so they still have new money coming in.

  6. We were supposed to leave today (March 9) from Palermo. So glad we decided not to go. Staying a few extra nights in Paris. There are worse things.

This is going to be a mess for people who are scheduled to disembark in CIV or PMO and have flights booked from there.

That helps trigger more distress - people mixing up information. Using different  sources in a very fluid situation that is ever changing and includes various factors is not very helpful. Its a setup.  Maybe a break until Monday will be more productive.

Don’t make sensible suggestions. This is the internet. 😁🤪

They are saying you can book anytime, but you have to sail within 12 months of your original booking.

Also, FWIW, the TA line to get through to MSC is hours long wait.  The Customer 844 number  is easier.  We got through in less than 10 mins,

Thanks!  I called last week, got right through, then got sent to the crisis line, waited an hour, and was told my TA had to call. TA has been in email contact with MSC and they said they would handle, but haven’t yet. So frustrating. Worried that MSC is going to screw up and then shrug their shoulders leaving me stuck.

I hear you and understand. But I'll counter with this, Hofstra, maybe (just maybe) it would HELP their bottom line if they were more customer service oriented...if instead of making it secret and difficult...they were up front and open. I'm always more likely to forgive and forget when things are handled with less difficulty for everyone.

I don’t disagree with you one bit. I was just providing the way they are looking at this. If anything, you would think they would be in a position to understand your point given that they are a family owned company and are not beholden to public shareholders.

So I never got through to MSC yesterday. I'm currently on hold with them...at minute 61. Here's an idea MSC...why not email all passengers with cruises scheduled in the next month or two and highlight our options. Wouldn't that be an easier process for customers, as well as MSC employees? Anyway, if I ever get an update, I'll come back to post. Continue to keep me in your thoughts! 😋

Agreed, but at the end of the day, MSC is a corporation and they want to make money. Why would they volunteer information to their passengers inviting them to cancel the cruise? For those concerned, they have provided a solution. But they are not going to publicize it and make it easy. Same reason you can sign up for everything online but usually have to call and cancel subscription services.

Keep us posted if you can as your cruise is one of the first scheduled  for departure  during  these uncertain times

My TA said that MSC will give me a credit to use on any MSC cruise within the next 12 months. I should have 100% confirmation within the next few days they said.

SirWolf you're right, he passed a line, but: it is not very transparant how MSC splits the DSC once they have the money on their account.

Meraviglia can handle 5700 passengers. Lets say 4000 of them are to pay the daily 12,50$ then MSC receives 350.000$ for a week cruise...I don't know how you feel about that amount of money, but for me that's a lot of DSC for one week to split by 1500 crew. Plus the 15% service charge on everything they sell us...

And that's only meraviglia. They have 19 ships sailing. So I still feel we, the passengers, may judge how our extra money is spent.

If MSC would be more transparent about the DSC that would help.

Best regards and happy sailings, C

Using your example, a staff member gets $33.33/day from the DSC.That’s probably a lot less than if tipped directly by each pax.
